Another one delurking for the shiny new thread.

I started running two years ago as I saw a ...ahem...significant birthday approaching and I wanted to be fitter than I'd been 10 years previously. I did the c25k with a Mumsnet thread, then started by local Parkrun, which I love.

I've done a couple of 10ks and now I'm doing another 10k and my first HM next month < yikes> . I'm on holiday in the highlands this week with Dh and kids , so I'm facing the scary prospect of a 25k run tomorrow in the middle of nowhere . Although I live in the county, it's gentle farmland with dog walkers, tractors and cows. There's nothing , nothing I tell you , here outside the villages < wimp>

Hello

I'm delurking as would love to join you all properly. I've started running in the last 4/5 months. I've got two kids under 2.5 and started running to get a break and clear my head. I've taken up running before in fits and starts but it has always had a losing weight related goal but this time I feel something has really clicked and I'm loving it.

I feel like a runner. I joined a club last month and it has made me faster already. The furthest I've ran is 8.5 miles but I'm tempted by a HM over the summer.

Oh an essay!

Nice to be a part of this thread anyway.

Mellie - when is the southport one? I am doing the EHM with a friend from Warrington so it made sense. How is your training for manchester going?

Tired - I am sure a year is plenty of time

Welcome Kristina and Desert baby.

Hope your enjoying your holiday Kristnia, that run sounds lovely and peaceful!

8.5 miles is fantastic Desert, certainly makes you a runner!

Hi CardiffUniversityNetballTeam, comicsansisevil, PostHocErgoPropterHoc, emummy, Burmahere, KristinaM and desertbaby!

That's fab OhOneOhTwoOhThree, I did 10 today and it was tough towards the end.

Not necessarily PolkaSpottyDotty, it may be your pace but there's nothing wrong with having a 5k pace and then slowing when you are going longer.

I took my dogs out today, was lovely but they were knackered by the end!!! I was pretty tired too! Had 6 people from my club running London today and it was really inspiring! Who's entering the ballot on 22nd? I didn't see anyone I knew but was lovely to see Michael Owen saying how hard it was and I felt sorry for Mo really. He's not a long distance runner and he did amazingly well but looked really disappointed :(

I am doing a half along the coast on 4th may, was supposed to be doing it with my friend and our dogs but her dog has just been diagnosed with cancer and she's injured her calf so it'll be me and my little doggy. I'm also thinking of entering a 10miler a few weeks after but need to check with dh first.

I think I am going to enter the ballot. The chances of me getting in are slim but its worth a try!

I thought the commentators were being really harsh about Mo Farrah, they seemed to be really negative and really being a minute off the pace for the fastest british marathon is pretty impressive!

Sounds like a great day Joules!

Hopefully we will be able to have a MN marathon meet up next year! I could probably get a charity place with the charity I volunteer for actually although I don't know if they have a mimunum sponsorship amount - if i don't get in via the ballot I will have to enquire

Oops, you are all proper runners, not week 2 of the c25k programme.

I don't even know what that is, dementedma but I can put one foot in front of the other at a slow trot, for a few strides at a time, so that will do me. Grin

Couch to 5 K. Today's "run" was for 90 seconds at a time.Blush

Don't you go anywhere, demented - I was on week 2 of C25k not too long ago, as were most people on this thread. I still don't consider myself a 'proper' runner Grin You'll have graduated before you know it.

Sirzy · 13/04/2014 20:00

I didn't get on with couch to 5k (found it too hard when i first tried Blush) but it was only a few months back that even the idea of running for a minute would have been impossible!

I've done c25k before and hoped that once the race for life was done I would get the bug and keep on running but it never happens. Every year I have to start again from scratch and I never seem to get any better at it.
How do you all manage to get to a point where you actually enjoy it?

sirzy southport half is 6th July :) they've made it 2000 capacity as well so I know I won't be last! Lol

Manchester training is going ok! Did my first ever 10k august 2013 in 67 mins, did one in January in 61 so aiming for 59/60. The ParkRun I go to is quite hilly so that every week is with one interval session a week and a 'long' run definitely is helping.

Me and running have never got on till now, so I'm just glad to do it and not be worried over the distance!

Hello! Can I join in too please?

Started running my local Parkrun a month or so ago. Only doing one run a week at present as I attend a class at my local gym 3x a week and it's all I can fit in at the moment. Thinking of aiming for a 10k race this year, so thinking of dropping one of my classes to fit in a longer run in the week. And possibly thinking of a half next spring.

I've noticed more so with running than anything else that I get a massive endorphin rush which seems to last me most of the day - great side effect!

demented I've just finished week 3 of C25k. The bit I'm enjoying most is watching my progress on Runkeeper. I'm sticking to the same route so I can see the improvement in my pace.

Tomorrow is week 4 day 1, that looks a bit scary!

July is too soon for me to consider a half marathon! This is my first 10k so aiming for around 1hr 15.

Hi BumgrapesofWrath - I quite often end up with a runners high after my runs especially when one goes well!

I don't know if I should enter for the marathon or not! It's really difficult for me to get time off work to do 5ks and 10ks and whatnot :/ I am determined though, watching the marathon today I have made it my ambition :)

Thank you for the lovely welcome Smile.

I'm not a runner by any means - can only do 3.5 miles by running/walking and am absolutely exhausted for the rest of the day Blush.

I had a lovely run this morning - 7 miles and got home in time to watch the elite runners finish the marathon!

If I can "run" 5k in 33 minutes, do you think a 10k in July is realistic if I start adding a longer run into my week?

Report
Sirzy · 13/04/2014 21:45

I hope so, 5k takes me 37 minutes and i have a 10k in may!
