These women are amazing. A marathon in 2 hours 20 minutes? I would be over the moon if I did my half marathon in that time!

Polka, I am sure you will find others along the route to keep you going!

Morning everyone, hope all injuries are clearing up & good luck to anyone doing the marathon today!

Didn't check in with my 5.3 mile run on Friday, was DD's lat day of term so hectic. Hoping I can get out at least twice over the two week break but I'm an LP so not holdin out too much hope unfortunately :(

emummy · 13/04/2014 12:33

Another one de-lurking. Have been running for about a year, very slowly. I've got a 5k coming up at Balmoral in 2 weeks then a 10k in Aberdeen in May. Preparation this week has been less than perfect - one run done then the whole family struck with vomiting bug so I've barely had enough energy to walk! Hopefully back to running tomorrow - I'll try 5k nice and slow! Watching the marathon and feeling inspired and so amazed by all those brave people taking it on.

Hello runners!

Just back from 13.4 miles in mostly gorgeous sunshine. About to register for the Milton Keynes half on 5 May now that I know my legs still have it in them.

I didn't plan to go that far (was planning 8-10) and although I took a drink I didn't have any gels. Was feeling pretty grim by the end, but thinking of the 3 RL friends and orangeflutie running the marathon kept me going.

Sirzy · 13/04/2014 13:11

Tess - I know that feeling, thankfully my parents are happy to have DS for a few hours while I run

Marking place on new thread Smile. No idea how, but changed my gait today and shaved 3 mins off my 5km time Grin. Suddenly half marathons aren't looking so very impossible after all!

Theonlyoneiknow · 13/04/2014 13:25

I have done the Balmoral race emummy my tip is to find a nice pair of legs to follow Smile, it is a hilly course! I am near Aberdeen.

TessTackle · 13/04/2014 13:34

Sirzy my dad is a headteacher so he's off too. Think I'll have to book in to the grandpa baby sitting service ;)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/04/2014 13:37

3 mins Degustibus? Amazing!

Burmahere · 13/04/2014 13:40

Please may I join? Always loved running but never done it properly until the last few weeks. Feel completely inspired and watching the LM now is just amazing! I am still only at the walking/running stage but absolutely love it and itching to get out every day which is a first for anything Grin!

emummy · 13/04/2014 13:41

Theonly, I'm near Aberdeen too and rarely go for a hill-free run! Am looking forward to the Baker Hughes, it will be nice to run on the flat for a change! Like the idea of following nice legs mind you, so long as they're not going too fast, that could get ugly!

Theonlyoneiknow · 13/04/2014 13:52

Me neither, I went for a rare flat run last week along the beach front and my legs were sorer than after my normal runs which have lots of ups and downs, odd!

Had a nice run around Netherley and Cookney yesterday.

emummy · 13/04/2014 13:58

That sounds like a nice run, lovely to be in the countryside. I mostly run around local streets but do longer runs on the Deeside way, which is sneaky cos it looks flat but has hidden hills! Very pleasant environment to run though. Hope you all get good runs in this week

darrellluke · 13/04/2014 14:01

Hildenborough 5 or 10 mile race(Kent)on the 5th May is a good one.

Hi burmahere welcome to the thread and the wondeful addiction which is running!

Had my gait analysis re-done today. I've got a very slight turn on the left, but only needs minimal support. I've had some insoles made, so hopefully they will help.

I need to get a patella band and try to modify my form Apparently I heel strike so I need to try and get up onto the ball and mid part of my feet. No idea how!

EauRouge · 13/04/2014 15:00

polka have you tried shortening your stride? It's easy to heel strike if you're overreaching.

10 miles for me today, nice to be back running after a week off.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 13/04/2014 15:32

I don't think I have a long stride.

I think I need to slow down (hard!) on C25k my runs are going to 8 or 9 min / mile which won't serve me well for a longer distance.

melliebobs · 13/04/2014 16:25

sirzy I'm doing the Manchester bupa 10k too :) was looking at the same half marathon that ur doing but swaying towards the flatness of the southport one

Tiredemma · 13/04/2014 16:27

Motivated by London- Ive somehow managed to sign myself up to do the Manchester Marathon next year.....Confused

A year is long enough to train right?.....(over winter.....)

EauRouge · 13/04/2014 16:57

Sure, you could train for a marathon from scratch in a year. How exciting!

PostHocErgoPropterHoc · 13/04/2014 17:39

The woman who leads the beginners group I run with did the marathon today - she's 70+ and a real inspiration :-) She was 18th in her category!

TessTackle · 13/04/2014 17:52

Tiredemma you can do it!

I'm thinking about signing up for race for life next year (starting small)

I'm going to get a run in on Tuesday, my gorgeous sister and her fiancé are insisting upon having DD for the day and night :)

Tiredemma · 13/04/2014 18:03

I did the GNR in 2012 with not much training (some half hearted runs to be honest)- I did it in 2.29.

Im really keen to improve and be dedicated to running this year.
