lol I used to play a lot of footie so more comfy in my footie shorts. over winter I've been wearing tights but feel too self conscious and 9 times outta 10 still wore a short pair of running shorts over the top. daft really Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 14/04/2014 21:10

cinnamon your weight loss - and keeping it off - is an amazing achievement and you should be proud of yourself. Any major life change takes willpower and determination. Your running is an added bonus - imagine carting all that extra weight around parkrun each week, let alone longer distances.

I don't have scales, so rarely get weighed, but I did get quite a bit smaller when I was marathon training (to the point that I was probably a bit skinny for me - my wrinkles were showing up too much). I was weighed at the doctors last week and was about my usual 10 stone.

Sirzy · 14/04/2014 21:12

I have always hated shorts, I think because I was so much bigger they made me self concious. Have got one pair for this summer now i have lost weight but not sure i will actually wear them!

I wore shorts last summer and I really have awful legs, there are some hideous parkrun photos with my loose skin wobbling around but when it's hot and you want to run it's surprising what you'll do Wink. I'm thinking of getting those short/skirt things that I think OhOneOhTwoOhThree recommended :)

cinnamongreyhound · 14/04/2014 21:25

Grin at your wrinkles OhOneOhTwoOhThree Thanks

Sirzy · 14/04/2014 21:28

Shorts/skirt sound good, not seen any of them - where are they from?

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 14/04/2014 21:33

How about these?

TessTackle · 14/04/2014 21:45

See, I'm not sure about those short/skirt things. I think I'll likely end up sticking with capri's and change from DP's tshirts to loose running vests (are there even such things?)

PolkaSpottyDotty · 14/04/2014 21:50

Can I have a woe is me knees moment?

Ouch.

Registered for the half marathon today, so they need to get better ASAP! No run for me today Sad

Loaf99 · 14/04/2014 21:52

I had registered for a half amaranth on , will be three or four months by time. Should I still do it?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/04/2014 21:53

Sorry to hear that PolkaSpottyDotty :(

Capris are too warm for me in the summer TessTackle. If you want a baggy vest just buy a bigger one Grin

TessTackle · 14/04/2014 21:58

Grin cinnamon my head is so up my arse at the moment, of course I just need a bigger one!

I'd like to get shorts that are loose-ish and not shorter than mid thigh really.

TessTackle · 14/04/2014 21:59

Oh Polka Brew hot bath tonight?

PolkaSpottyDotty · 14/04/2014 22:03

Thanks for tea and sympathy!

I don't want the pain to stop me. I've had gait analysis re-done, and insoles made another £45! I thought running was free

Patella straps ordered.

I guess I rest them until pain free again?

runningLou · 14/04/2014 22:04

Polka I feel your pain! Also suffering with really bad knee pain and can't run without feeling every stride like a horrible jolt through the kneecap. Is yours an injury or wear and tear? When did you last run?

runningLou · 14/04/2014 22:06

Just saw your post above Polka - snap, have also had gait analysis and have new orthotic insoles. Did parkrun in them on Sat but have been so stiff ever since. Am ibuprofen-ed up to the eyeballs.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 14/04/2014 22:06

I have a couple of tennis skirts like the one cinnamon posted, but the legs rode up and chafed a bit, so I ended up wearing cycling shorts underneath them.

I also bought a skirt from here when I was in the US - they do have a UK page as well. Mine is a tartan one (bought it for a Scottish-themed run). The attached pants feel a bit small, so I have also worn cycling shorts under them too.

yegodsandlittlefishes · 14/04/2014 22:08

Had a rest day yesterday and doubled up on my dose of iron, and again today, and managed a long walk today. No run, but maybe tomorrow if the iron works and I'm not too achy in the morning.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 14/04/2014 22:12

Oh no, lots of knee pain. It is really awful, I had to give up hockey for a long time due to sore knees and it is really horrible. Touch wood all OK running and I have managed up to 10 miles so fingers crossed... Hope your knees feel better soon Polka and Lou.

Well tonight have done it... signed up for the Great Eastern Run in October. Am really scared, want to do myself justice after all this training and worried that I have jinxed myself and will now get sore knees!

I bought some capri pants on Friday and wore them on Saturday - I did miss my lovely tights. I don't think I can switch to shorts, I do like the 'support' that lycra gives my knees.

Off for 7km run in the morning - need to start working out pacing etc for the HM now that I am officially 'in'.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 14/04/2014 22:13

I can't take NSAIDs. Booooo!!!

Lou, it's an old cartlidge injury from hockey / hurdles / sprinting at school.

I thought the decent shock absorbers in the expensive shoes would work. Gutted that I've potentially wasted £100 plus all the race entries.

I should've waited Sad

emummy · 14/04/2014 22:14

I made it out just for a 5k today but well chuffed as it's the first run for a week thanks to the family vomiting bug. In north of Scotland so no need for shorts here but I have progressed to Capri pants and lighter socks!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 14/04/2014 22:21

Polka and Lou - please be very careful. DH carried on running through knee pain and ended up badly injured and needing quite major surgery (because running on the original injury both made it worse and caused damage to other parts of his knee as well). It's coming up to a year since his surgery and although he is running and cycling again he is still in constant pain just going about normal life, and will never be able to run more than 5-6 miles (we were running half marathons together - by together I mean we set off from the start at the same time, then he spent 45 minutes waiting for me at the finish Smile, and he was at mile 18 of a full marathon when his knee gave out for good).

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 14/04/2014 22:23

Well done for taking the plunge Josh! Someone at parkrun was talking about the Great Eastern Run a couple of weeks ago.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 14/04/2014 22:23

That's not good OhOne.

I will be careful ??

Blatherskite · 14/04/2014 22:25

Tapering this week as I have my 2nd half marathon on Friday...or at least I would be if I'd done any training to taper from!

Why am I so rubbish at preparing for these things?
