orange I am

backwardpossom · 13/09/2011 16:45

Oh I meant to say, I ordered some running gear on Sports Direct on Sat and it arrived this morning (not too bad I reckon) - I'd ordered some Karrimor bits (hi viz stuff) and this monstrosity was in the parcel as a free gift... It's HUGE! Suggestions? I was thinking a penny pot?

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 16:46

Sorry pressed send too quick!

I am a Girly girl but even I would have drawn the line at those boots. DD2 however has traits of MIL who age 61 wears leopard print harem pants and a "Derek" tattoo on shoulder. Grin

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 16:48

possum I could hook it onto my running belt and do my Eartha Kitt shit in it.

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 16:49
backwardpossom · 13/09/2011 16:52

PMSL fanny - it's certainly big enough! Grin

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 16:54

Oh I dunno possum - after Sunday's events a dustbin would have had a hard time capacity wise.

DrNortherner · 13/09/2011 17:03

Ah yes, the free mug. I have 3 languishing at the back of my cupboards. Seriously who the hell would use it?!

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 17:06

Maybe people who wear pink running gear DrNo....!? Wink

Ladies wish me luck - I'm limbering up to go for 3 miler and get a PB (

MoshiMoshi · 13/09/2011 17:15

fanny - a gentle warm up jog usually does the trick. Find a loo in a cafe/hotel etc nearby and work out a warm up route that incorporates it. No more than a couple of miles though as you want to remain fresh for the 13.1 you will be racing. Coffee works for a lot of people. I find a small brekkie does the trick. The night before you could eat lots of fibre to ensure bowel movement. Carbs tend to bung you up although you should carb up a bit to help fuel you round. Failing all that, Immodium and then deal with the evacuation afterwards. But it does mean you race full of sh1t. Grin

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 17:56

Thanks Moshi - shall heed your advice!!!

Just did my PB for 3 miles - 21.36!!! Bloody hard and had to stop few times for traffic (but paused Garmin) but considering was running against wind I am chuffed to bits!

orangehead · 13/09/2011 18:06

Wow well done fanny
Anyone finding mumsnet is playing up, or is it just me?

backwardpossom · 13/09/2011 18:17

Brilliant run, fanny

I'm trying to psyche myself up to go to running club tonight. It is chucking down out there... :( I do have my new kit to cheer me up a bit though! Grin

rhetorician · 13/09/2011 19:38

fanny I sympathise both on the daughter front and on the trots front - it happens very frequently to me about 2 miles into a run. Very aggravating altogether. Do you neck a lot of water before heading out - I used to and it really makes things worse.

Dr No, well, now, I used to run much faster when I still smoked :o (that might have something to do with the intervening vats of wine 25 years though. Gave up 5 years ago. Never ever miss it. DP also gave up about then and still misses it)

So dd is being a bit of a pain in the arse - lots of screaming and 'i want' followed almost immediately by 'i don't want'...at times today I've wanted to re-home her. BUT she is only little, I think she is cutting a back molar, and she is a bit worried about the arrival of DD2. She asked DP yesterday which one of us would be her little sister's mummy - bless. Added to all that DP had her all day today and just can't run around and play with her. Plus she woke up crying in the night and kicked us all around our bed all night so we are both operating on about 4 hours sleep...this does not make for a happy bedtime.

All of this is context for my less than spectacular run today - I decided to run home from work (about 6 miles), so had my kit plus the things I need at home (diary, coat, keys, etc etc) in my rucksack. Not only was it very uncomfortable to run in (I had to hold the straps to stop it shredding my neck to pieces), it also weighed in at about 5kgs! I found running on pavements very hard on the legs, esp. in clapped out shoes, plus I had almost no sleep and no lunch. So think on balance that 10.30 m/mi isn't too bad.

This is all very minor compared to the fact that DD's grandad has just been diagnosed with bowel cancer. He's in his early 50s :( but the prognosis does seem to be fairly positive. But I really feel for them. An unscheduled visit might be in order, I think.

fanny if you forget your pill you will get pregnant.
I didn't realise that it was the pill that was making feel the way I felt until I read a thread about it on here somewhere. Stopped it and oh my god, I'm actually a lovely person to be around, what's more life is all right really :D
well, my training plan has gone to pots because of this cold, starting again tomorrow with some boxing.
I have not had a proper run in three weeks (little 5k ones and some messing about on the treadmill, other types of exercises have remained pretty intact so level of fitness is ok, no long run though.)
We'll just have to see what happens at the race next weekend. I'm going to try and do a long run this sunday, not calling my running partner though Ive let her down so many times I'm Blush.

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 20:48

Thank you orange and possum! Probably not the best idea when I should be tapering....

rhet DD2 seems to be causing the hassle at the moment and she used to be an ANGEL. She's back at pre-school, 3 times a week now so tiredness and being overexcited because of birthday etc playing huge part and they are quite highly strung kids anyway (as am I) so anything out of the ordinary and it's hell. Nothing like kids whinging all day though to drive you around the bend. However tomorrow I am sans kids so will relish the peace - nice run with friend in the morning and then ironing. Oh the joys. You did brilliant with your backpack on, I get the feeling though you are hard on yourself. Don't take away from how bloody great you are getting out, you work, have pregnant DP and a DD that is being a handful.

Just trying to book Durham Travelodge for Sat night. Decided to get somewhere as near as possible and stay over - it's worrying me having to go so far on the morning, if traffic hit or there was an accident I would be stuck. However Travelodge website is being a pain in the arse. Fingers crossed get it booked.

Debi by the way - WELL DONE on 35th! That is tremendous!

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 21:06

rhet sorry meant to add how awful for DD's Grandad. So young.

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 21:14

June I don't miss them per se, just always forgetting to do them at the right time however mine has 12 hour window so I'm always in it. Hmm definitely going to look at sterilisation however Mum thinks it's too final. Err Ma, that's the point Grin! Hope your cold improves, natures way of making you rest though. Wink

peachsmuggler · 13/09/2011 21:20

Fururity, was so nice hearing about your run today, sounds fantastic. Those are the kind of runs that keep us going when things get tough!

Fanny, you are speedy gonzales, nice one!

Badger, glad DD getting in well in her big bed! I have managed to persuade DD to go to bed with the lamp on instead of the big light so making progress on that front.

Wheely, good luck to your DD tomorrow in pre-school. She sounds like a bit of a livewire so am sure she'll love it! We have one last day of freedom before DD starts. All very daunting.

sfx, that is such great news about the course. If I believed in such things I would say it is meant to be! Sorry your DD is having trouble resettling at school. She is obviously a sensitive wee soul. Hope she finds her feet soon.

Rhet, sympathies on the DD situation, hopefully just a phase, but that doesn't help much when you are dealing with it. Sorry about her grandad too. Is this her dad's dad?

Was talking to a friend today who has recently started running again after DC2. She said it felt like starting from scratch. Am really hoping it doesn't feel like that when I get back!!!

Right, I might get me to bed!

I'm doing a local 10k on Sunday - well, I am at the moment anyway. :)

Ah rhet sympathies with you re: DD. Hopefully she'll perk up soon.

Well I forced myself to go out tonight and am glad I did - we did a lovely trail run along the banks of a river which was rather nice, although very muddy... We did about 4 miles, 1st mile warm up slow jog then 3 miles at a pace of around 8:30 min/miles. Good running. Grin

bonkers20 · 13/09/2011 22:29

My knee is SO sore! As I said earlier, I fell over today. Tripped over a tree root and went flying. My right knee is badly grazed, painful to walk on, swollen and very warm!

I couldn't kneel down to put DSs night time nappy on or sweep the kitchen floor (shocking I know!)

I'm expecting it to be very stiff tomorrow (oooo eerrr missus!) and to get no sympathy at work!

bonkers20 · 13/09/2011 22:31

peach I took loads of time off after each child and honestly...it didn't make that much difference. OK, so it took a while to get back up to distance and speed, but I actually think I'm inert.

I think pregnancy and child rearing gives you a different sort of fittness. I know for sure that my upper body strength has improved greatly!

rhetorician · 13/09/2011 22:58

yes, peach her dad's father - and her only grand-dad- DP's and my father are both dead and never got to see her :(

left laptop at work, hence lack of posting...backward that sounds good, banish your demons (and poisons ;))

bonkers ooh, ouchy - ice, ice, ice - hope it heals soon

fanny (and others) had secret smirk to self over contraception - one of the huge upsides of my proclivity (that word always makes me want to snigger) is that after my late teens, I never ever had to think about it

must sleep, must sleep

great running going on all round, I must say

Morning all. This thread is so entertaining, making me chuckle.

Rhet I do miss the fags sadly, and haven been known to partake on a night out with the odd G & T......

fanny fabbo 5k time, I might test myself this week.

Very blustery r club last night, we did intervals; 6 x 4 min reps with 3 min recoveries. The thing about running club is you get carried away with the speed, at one point I was 7 m/miling Shock can't sustain that for long though. But will all help with my target of getting a PB at my next 10k

Have a good day all.
