miss muddle - crossing your fingers (and resting) is not going to identify the extent of your injury or sort it out. If you are going to run regardless, then be very careful of doing further damage as fanny says. Run-walk if necessary to ensure you complete the distance without crippling yourself!

stickylittlefingers · 14/09/2011 21:26

Missmuddle I really feel for you. I was in a similar position last year (twisted my knee playing football with my nephew - Rooney never has to look out for rabbit holes on the pitch Hmm). I can only second Moshi and Fanny's advice. I went to a lovely physio - are you anywhere near Newcastle? I went to the Lombard clinic there. I do hope you can do it - but do defer rather than risk doing yourself a serious injury.

Fanny - if you're with the walkers, I'm with the crawlers. I'm in H! Though it seems I do intend marching on my stomach - I baked the cookies because both DDs had friends around this evening. But they didn't eat 3 trays of cookies, and DP is out at some dinner, I'm alone with the cookies... Shock DrNo if you were a bit nearer I'd insist you came and ate some to save me from myself Grin. Ah well. Taper taper.

( I did do a run this morning, but it was so awful I'd rather not talk about it. My excuse is it was really dark at 6am, and I never really woke up...Blush)

fannybanjo · 14/09/2011 21:50

rhet ah but I'm used to your streak so because your not updating everyday with runs then it feels like you've hardly been out! Biking great cardio though, I'd love to cross train but running takes enough time as it is. My brother bikes to work and was injured quite badly by a prick opening her car door to go to hairdressers. He ended up flying all over floor and she stepped over him!! No bloody consideration for people on bikes and that puts me off getting one.

Sticky H??!! You'll be bashing them out the way with a sack full of your pedigree chum crap Grin. You'll be alright kid, you'll be top of the class in your zone! This cookie taking me hungry, wind your neck in now Wink

MissMuddle definitely take Moshi's advice - I'd do same if I was in your situation. Especially if you are desperate to do it.

rhetorician · 14/09/2011 22:10

fanny - city traffic is a challenge especially with the particular brand of arsehole we seem to have in this city...I shouldn't start on the Bike Rant (many's the friend I have bored with tales of my near death experiences...probably worse than being on the bike!). Mind you, on my run home yesterday I crossed a junction with a green man and 6 (yes 6 cars!) came across while I was on the crossing. I was furious, but would probably have thrown something at them if I had been walking across with DD...am still AngryAngryAngryAngry about it

would like a cookie too - have just spent most of the evening boiling up blackcurrant jelly for the 3rd bloody time - if it isn't set in the morning it's going in the bin, no matter how delicious it is.

Got out tonight and did 6.3miles in 57 minutes. I haven't run more than about 5 miles for a while but I felt good so extended it a couple of times. I'd been gone so long that when I rang the doorbell dh wondered who it was, he'd forgotten all about me!
It's definitely getting close to autumn now (refuse to admit it is autumn), there was a bit of a nip in the air and it was very dark.

fanny those boots make me thankful I've only got boys!

Missmuddle I think you should see a physio too. Or maybe go for a walk and see how it feels.

Another manic Wednesday at work.

DebiTheScot · 14/09/2011 22:18

6 cars on a green man!!! Shock That's unbelievable!

peachsmuggler · 14/09/2011 22:23

Cookies? Jam? Send it all on down here, it will be eaten swiftly!

Sorry to hear missmuddle, but really agree you should give the physio a visit and in the meantime rest, you have done all the training you need to. Good luck!

nice to see you lady, and meant to wave at paws t'other day!

Wheely, glad it went well for DD2 today. Am shi**ing myself about tomorrow, I have no idea how this is going to pan out. Really should be asleep by now as was up half last night unable to sleep, but now feel too wired.

Very excited for all our GNR runners. Will miss it on Sunday as we are away staying with friends and as far as I know they're not into running. Will watch the highlights later if there is such a program!

ibbydibby · 14/09/2011 22:23

If we're offering home-made goodies around, would anyone like a blueberry streusal muffin...freshly baked this afternoon.....speak now before they are all gone...

MissMuddle sorry about your injury, that is really tough.

Fanny good to know you have accommodation - had been thinking about you (ie "wonder if fanny has got somewhere to stay yet) - seems strange to be thinking about a name on the internet! Think you should sign up for half marathon, think it is good to get another race of the same distance as you should not need to build up your training again - just do some longish runs to maintain what you have achieved so far. As you say though, best to see how you are after weekend.

Rhet 14 miles of cycling sounds good to me!

Went for a run this morning, as planned, after car was collected for service and MOT. Decided to try and do a bit of "speed work" (get me!) - I did a much shorter run, just tried to go a bit faster.

bonkers20 · 14/09/2011 22:29

Wow, it's easier to keep up with the leading pack than keep up with this thread!

Moshi I will heed your advice and stick at 2 children. Thanks.

Are there any cookies left? I have just had a bag of Giant Chocolate Buttons so if there's only one left then I'll let someone else have it. I am back to my normal weight after my BF loss (though I am still BF), so I could probably ease up on the sweet treats now.

My knee is very sore today. Stairs are bad. I can't put any pressure on it. This is not compatible with having a 2 year old. Walking about is OK though so I don't think I've done anything more than badly bruise it. Shall I run tomorrow though...hmmmmm.

Sonic Tokyo sounds great! I went there once, but did not run...oh no. I looked around the shops.

peachsmuggler · 14/09/2011 22:31

Meant to say, fanny, those boots are hilarious! DD has got massively into the hole pink/princess/tinkerbell/rapunzel thing lately. It does make me boak, as am not girly at all, but then if she was massively into cars/toolkits am sure I would be suportive, so need to be of princessy thing too, as is what she likes just now. We were Reading Angelina Ballerina tonight and she said out of the blue, "only girls do ballet, boys can't go to ballet". DP had to put her right and explained to her that he went to ballet as a wee boy. Ahh, how I tittered behind my hand.

peachsmuggler · 14/09/2011 22:34

Whole, not hole!!!' Shock

rhetorician · 14/09/2011 22:38

ibby meant to ask, whereabouts in Norfolk are you? My dad's family all came from there and I spent much of my childhood poking about on windswept beaches and eating crab sandwiches. One set of great-gps lived in Fakenham, the other in Wells (although I think they came from Gt Yarmouth). They were whelk fishermen and were the mainstay of the Wells lifeboat. Love it up there, although it all seems terribly sophisticated compared with the Norfolk of my childhood. I love to hear a proper Norfolk accent too (my dad had one!), but rare enough these days.

sorry - digressing as usual. Ready for my bed.

OP posts:
bonkers20 · 14/09/2011 22:47

rhet I'm not Ibby, but I grew up in Norfolk (though neither of my parents are from there).
I love it. I spent many, many happy times in Wells and around that part of the coast and we go there fairly often these days.

Bed.....yes.

ibbydibby · 14/09/2011 22:55

rhet, I am ibby (sorry, bonkers, couldn't resist!) - am just outside Norwich. Though grew up in Yarmouth. Whereabouts were you, Bonkers and where are you now?

No accent, really, but whenever I go to London for work meeting, am aware that when I open my mouth, I do sound a bit of Norfolk dumplin'.

Also have many happy memories of days spent idling on both Norfolk and Suffolk coastline. Sunny, windy days, where you always had to have a cardigan (yes!) on. going home with that windswept weary feeling - bliss!

Most follow good example of thread and slink off to bed. Fanny have not had a chance to look at boot link, though must as it has caused so much discussion.

rhetorician · 14/09/2011 23:10

sorry bonkers - i was just reading back and remembered something about Norwich (my parents bought me my first ever watch, and more importantly, my first copy of Winnie-the-pooh in Norwich)...the weather at the moment is so lovely - I'd love to scamper around on Holkham Beach with dd. Sigh.

OP posts:
bonkers20 · 15/09/2011 06:55

rhet Yes, we were trying to talk each other into doing the Norwich 1/2.

Ibby I grew up just outside East Dereham and now live south of Cambridge.

Right, the knee is alot better. Haven't had such an impressive scab for a LONG time.

bonkers20 · 15/09/2011 08:53

Oh darn. I'm at work and my running bra is at home. What to do?!

I think I'll just wear my regular bra and hope I can get away with it not being too sweaty this afternoon! Or maybe I could go braless this afternoon.....hmm maybe not. My bras give my post pregnancy boobs some shape.

stickylittlefingers · 15/09/2011 13:08

Run with your arms folded bonkers? I can't run without stainless steel inner cladding, otherwise it would be black eyes and nasty saggage

Local news is going overdrive on GNR now, it's very exciting!! The weather's not sounding too bad - may be light rain, but not too hot and not too windy (a following wind if anything). Hooray! Can't wait Grin

rhetorician · 15/09/2011 13:30

ok ladies, tell me to make sure to do my treadmill run today - didn't run yesterday (no time) and annoying work cock-up means that I need to drop dd at 9, cycle to work for one small thing and then back again to pick her up at 1 (annoying thing is at 11), so doubt I'm going to get my usual 12k in tomorrow morning (can't do afternoon as DP has ante-natal appointment)...I am tired today (woke up for about 3 hours in the middle of the night for no reason), but i really need to get some running in. Make me.

OP posts:
bonkers20 · 15/09/2011 13:32

Sticky I bet you're excited! Have you done the GNR before? I did it in 2007.
It was fabulous but a very, very long way to go to run around a bit and then come home. The human race is a bit mad.

I ran in my normal bra and now I get to feel neurotic about me it kiffing all afternoon. I have my Tesco body spray Impulse on hand.

I work with a bunch of geeks though so it's unlikely they'll notice.

I did my usual work lunch time run by myself and knocked 3 mins off the time. It must be all the chatting I wasn't doing!

Wheelybug · 15/09/2011 14:00

Come on they - you know you'll feel better once you've done it. I did 4 miles on the treadml this morning. Would have done 5 but I spenttoo long have coffee first.

peach - how did this morning go for dd (and you )?

Wheelybug · 15/09/2011 14:01

Wheelybug · 15/09/2011 14:03

That should say 'come on rhet' and not twice !

bonkers20 · 15/09/2011 14:05

rhat DO IT. You will feel better. If you don't then I will get you a bag of peanut M&Ms to make up for it.

missmuddle · 15/09/2011 14:15

I couldn't possibly keep up with this thread but think fanny and sticky are doing the GNR so good luck .

Moshi i am determined i have never done this before so will have to walk/run if need be.

The swelling has definitely reduced- I have bee walking with no pain or discomfort and still two/three days to go but have still not tried running. Won't be able to see a physio

We are driving to n/cle tomorrow as all the DCs are doing the mini /junior race on Saturday.
