yes, unless you specify guardians etc in a will then situation will be defined by the law, which will be next of kin in most cases - you may not want this (my mother didn't want me, for example, to go to my uncle and aunt if anything happened to her - this being the aunt who, when we were visiting, took out an apple, cut it into quarters, gave one piece to each of her three children and put the remaining piece back in the fridge!!). If there is likely to be family conflict (e.g. between your siblings and your parents) over what happens to a child, make a will - nothing more damaging for a bereaved child.

Evening All from a very blustery North YorkshireSmile

Great results Cest, N4NNY, Moshi, and Debi, well done everyone! Debi that's a fantastic placing, bet you are well chuffed?

All this talk of varying pace has made me realise I need to get my arse into gear and sort out my pacing. I don't really know what pace to run at, I just 'run'. Maybe that is why my pace has plateaued recently? My week normally looks lie this:

Mon - 60 mins drill session with running club
Tues - Running club, usually hills or intervals, approx 75 mins
Weds - rest
Thurs - Steady run, approx 4/5 miles
Fri - 3 miles ish
Sat - longer run, normally 7 - 10 miles
Sunday - rest

Any advice as to how I could tweak this much appreciated. Am thinking about making Thurs a tempo or fartlek?

A a bit worried I will be blown away this evening

orangehead · 12/09/2011 20:09

Well done cestlavie brilliant time. You too also N4nny. I can't imagine running that far well done, how awful about the man Sad.
Well done too Debi, how far was the bike race?
Shock at your cousins dh badger, thats not fair . Glad your dd liking her new bed.
Thanks June
I agree Pawsnclaws, I love running in the rain and really wanted it to rain for the race. But anything better than running in the heat.
sfxmum hope dd settles.
Did some intervals tonight and all I wish to say is I hate intervals.

Am impressed that people are actually going out running in this vile weather! I keep expecting to look out my window and seeing Norway or something...

orange I hate intervals, too. Grin

squix · 12/09/2011 22:19

Well done all this weekends racers - always great to hear the stories.

So ....on my run tonight..... (oh this could be a new game)..... I saw 2 dozen buff young men in speedosWink, Lenny Henry, Austin Healy, Mark Foster, Miranda Hart, Babs Windsor, Lara Stone and the magnificent David Walliams. Grin

I am working in London for a couple of days, staying not far from Tate modern and set out for a run at about 5.15, ran along the southbank (warm but v windy) got to Westminster, saw the crowds, went a bit further, turned round and started to run back - saw the young men and thought - oh well might as well hang on for a bit and see what happens. Grin What he has done is just incredible.

Hope you are all keeping safe in this wind - I had a bumpy ride down yesterday and am expecting the same back up tomorrow.

DebiTheScot · 12/09/2011 22:40

Those of you with Garmins, when you import from your device onto the computer does it work when you click on the wee blue and green icon? On mine it only works when you do it under the File menu. Not that it really matters, just wondered if it was just mine.

Grrr just realised I've also messed up some of my cycles. I thought something wasn't quite right with the garmin but have just realised what I've done. When changing it from run to cycle mode I haven't always reset the display with the previous run on it and it's recorded it as a multisport activity instead of 2 separate ones. And I can't figure out how to see the map of the cycle or import the cycle into runkeeper to look at the map on googlemaps.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 13/09/2011 07:33

Well running club was interesting last night! We did a route which I find tough at the best of times (6.32 miles with a nice big long hill in the middle) but the weather made it something special. For the last 2 miles it felt like 2 steps forward one step back - a seriously good workout. I slept really well last night.

I am impressed by your famous men in trunks spotting squix. I think we may have spotted Lorraine Kelly in her car last night - not quite the same.

bonkers20 · 13/09/2011 09:00

If anyone's interested in the Cambridge Half, you can register your interest here

The date is confirmed as the 11th March.

DebiTheScot · 13/09/2011 09:20

That was good timing squix Grin

I posted last night without actually reading anything so I ignored a couple of you, sorry. And now I can't remember who asked Qs (orange?) The cycle was 40km/24 miles. I spent ages analysing the splits times and elevation map last night. My average speed on the flat is about 18-19mph, I had 3 miles with averages over 21mph and overall was 15mph with 3 big hills (one was 2 miles long and the one at the end was a mile at about 10% gradient)

Walking round the zoo after was hell to start with as I thought I'd pulled something in my thigh but it eased off eventually and I wasn't stiff at all yest so it was probably good for me.

It's not too windy here so I should get a decent run in tonight.

June2009 · 13/09/2011 10:01

wheely it's probably a good idea not to do the race and keep an eye on your foot.
Who is it who had someone walk on their foot with a stiletto? That sounded painful. (I think it saw it on FB, pretty sure it was someone from here).

sfx it might have been something sympathetic about the bmw driver (was that you? sorry my brain is such a sieve). and rhet we really need to make wills yes, we mention it from time to time and then forget about it.

remembered the post for fanny periods have that effect on me too, and since birth 2 years ago they have not been regular despite taking the contraceptive pill so I can't plan races, holidays etc. My previous bill was good for that as I could manipulate my cycles, but it was also making me really down so I think I'll live with the inconvenience for now :D

futurity · 13/09/2011 11:54

Definitely want to do the Cambridge half bonkers ...have already registered interest...expect it will be popular.

I ran to Cambridge today and then around the Backs passed Kings College..weather was gorgeous...trees were lovely colours and it was the best 12 miles I've ever done Smile

stickylittlefingers · 13/09/2011 12:56

futurity Envy big time. I spent a summer living in Memorial court (Clare) and used to run out to Coton of an evening (it was a really hot summer - the one of the Atlanta olympics). It was glorious! Then down the pub afterwards. It was great being 22!!

Went out for an easy 45 mins, with my Scope vest on (it only arrived yesterday). It was a lot less windy than yesterday, but did have to move a few small trees out the way that had blown across the path! But the sun shone on the righteous - it only started to spit with rain once I got home :)

futurity · 13/09/2011 13:11

I've never run in Cambridge before ...apart from the Chariots of Fire relay a couple of years ago, so it was quite novel for me and felt like a real achievement running a route I normally do by car. The last two miles running around the backs with the sun shining was lovely (normally miles 10-12 are not lovely!) and I could of continued for more. Pace was fine as well for a LSR and I did it in 2 hours 16. (smiles in a contented "that was a lovely LSR for once" way)

stickylittlefingers · 13/09/2011 13:16

good for you - may the contented glow long continue!

orangehead · 13/09/2011 13:30

June vitamin b is really good for helping get you regular. Before ttc I was anything between 16 days and 34 days, not exactly helpful. Starting taking vitamin b and after a couple of months of taking it I have been bang on 27 days every month for last 6 months. Which is unheard of for me.
Feeling sorry for myself today, the 'mild' cold I have had the last few days has decided to come out in full force today very achey and very sore throat. Might be why I had such a crap run last night, though I still hate interavls. So instead of doing housework I went to John Lewis and got the kids some T shirts and treated myself to a breakfast and coffee whilst there Smile. Was planning 6 miles tomorrow but now thinking thats unlikely.

bonkers20 · 13/09/2011 13:43

I'm shattered! Not physically, but mentally! My usual running partner at work is on holiday this week so I mailed out to our campus running group and asked whether anyone wanted to join me.

I ended up going with a 23 year old German student who was so bloody happy and enthusiastic! She was a lovely, young woman and don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to go running with a misery guts, but everything was just so fun and she was so keen and I just felt old. That is until I fell over and grazed my knee badly so then I felt about 4!

Anyway wooped her arse!

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 16:06

Blooodyyyyyy heellllllllll my kids kill me. Seriously, I am doubting my capabilities as a mother today. DD2's birthday - for 4 days she has acted like a diva mother'sdaughter and DD3 bounces off her then DD1 jumps in for her tuppence worth. Been to Chester Zoo with my cousin and her DS, I was 5 foot away from throwing my two to the lions. However I imagine the lions would have bolted once they saw DD's new pink glitter Disney Sharpay www.disneystore.co.uk/shoes-clothing-accessories-girls-sharpay-boots/mp/37237/1000231+1000763/boots Grin Yes, I know I am a twat and they are all kinds of awful but pick your battles hey?!

Anyway.... Running. Yes, the turtle episode has put my head back up my arse (pardon the pun) and made me very worried that in all seriousness, I will shit myself next week on GNR. Very concerned indeed. Do I need an enema beforehand... Hmm Grin Going to go out shortly for quick tempo 3 miles - I am intending to welly it as in the mood for good run. Will report back.

sticky sounds good plan - I intend to do short one today, longer one tomorrow with hills, rest Thursday, easy run Friday and MAY do 3 mile jog Saturday - depending on how I feel.

Debi I'm not yet at to the stage of plugging my Garmin into the computer!

June I have just started the pill - I am not quite yet sure if it is turning me into a monster or whether that is just my normal personality! Only 3 weeks in to it so most probably the latter! However I deliberating over whether to be sterilised, I keep forgetting the pill.

bonkers well done on whooping the German bird. Grin

orange I have ironing higher than BT Tower and tomorrow all my 3 are in educational facilities Wink but John Lewis for breakfast sounds far more appealing. However my mission is to find my spare key for my car which DD3 has lost along with 2 Ipod Touch's, 1 DS lite, 1 credit card and multiple jewellery. She is a magpie.

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 16:09

Link not worked and although has feck all to do with thread will re-link for guffaws... here (first pair - pink glitter monstrosities) Grin

MoshiMoshi · 13/09/2011 16:13

I am lurking and delighted with the race reports and PBs, not to mention the turtle heads, gingerbread men, David Wallliams, men in trunks, talk of wills... Well done to you all! I am needed at school very soon (had major cook off to take red chicken curry in for a new parents evening tonight) so am relurking but continuing to be delighted by the wonderful running and cycling going on. Go us.

backwardpossom · 13/09/2011 16:27

fanny a nice strong coffee 3 hours before a race usually sorts me out! Grin

DrNortherner · 13/09/2011 16:40

fanny I guess an early morning fag would get things moving before the GNR. But then your lungs might grumble.........when I was a smoker a fag always sorted me out Grin

The men in trunks - wow! That is one to live up to. You have laid down the gauntlet. Marlon Dingle from Emmerdale lives around here so you never know....

Gale force winds and driving rain here today. Running club will be fun. Must get to work on my invention as my hair simply can not take this weather.

DrNortherner · 13/09/2011 16:40

Disclaimer: DrN is NOT recommending cigarettes as an aid to training.

orangehead · 13/09/2011 16:41

bonkers Grin at whopping her.
Fanny love the boots Do you not fancy your own pair? Times like that Im glad had two boys, not sure I could do all that disney stuff. Ds2 is also a magpie

fannybanjo · 13/09/2011 16:41

Ladies - a coffee and a fag - what fonts of knowledge you are... GrinWink however I may resort to a good old healthy pint of aloe Vera juice! That'll get the glue out the pipes.
