Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

SNOWBall4girlz · 05/01/2012 23:20

I will be joining the challenge but I have only one item listed at the mo :)
A free listing weekend must on the cards lol

Selks · 05/01/2012 23:35

Ok, I'll add my name to this...might make me get my arse in gear and get selling.

Tortoise · 05/01/2012 23:37

Me! Still have piles of stuff to get rid of and I want to go away over Easter holidays so money will come in very handy!

CointreauVersial · 05/01/2012 23:40

It's my NY Resolution to reduce the pile of crap desirable pre-loved items in my loft, so count me in.

Mind you, that is exactly what I said this time last year. Blush

dizzyday07 · 06/01/2012 00:09

I'm up for joining in again.

mygirllollipop · 06/01/2012 10:42

Free listing this weekend.

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 10:58

Hello everyone! I am very pleased there are quite a few of us already.

Tortoise you were definitely on the last thread. I hope all the Christmas loot went down well, especially the Playmobil?

Cointreau we will spur you on to get that stuff sold and get money in your paypal account.

lollipop thanks for the info - that is definitely a good motivator to get us started.

On the last thread most of us listed on Sunday and Monday nights as we found we got the most interest and therefore the best end prices then. Obviously we can list whenever suits us though.

My first challenge is to find the cable to connect my camera to my laptop as that seems to have gone walkabout during the festivities.

Oh dizzy I remember you from the last thread too. Yay!

Can I join please have a large pile of stuff ready and waiting but lacking the motivation to get started and could really do with a boost to my finances

notcitrus · 06/01/2012 11:09

Probably not this time as will be giving birth in Feb and not up to much before or after!
Might relist the few things that didn't go before Christmas.

My tip is to list bulky things for collection only on Gumtree first, if you live in a town or city, as it's less faff, cash in hand, and seems to fetch higher prices than Ebay.

Good luck to all of you.

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 11:12

Oh Congrats nocitrus I hadn't picked up that you were expecting. Smile Feel free to pop in with advice if you are about.

MyOhMyOh · 06/01/2012 11:16

Oh can I join? I've only just listed the first things I've ever sold (got some good advice here a few days ago, ta!) and would love to be doing this with others and spurring each other on to sell more.

I already have a question that I hope someone could advise me on. I've listed 3 lots of bundles of new baby clothes with a starting price of £10/15 per bundle. I have about 8 people watching each bundle Shock but have just received a message from someone asking me if I'd be willing to sell all 3 bundles for a bulk price. Anyone have any advice? Should I be cautious about the request in case the whole lot is posted and I dont receive any payment?

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 14:28

MyOhMyOh don't post anything until you have been paid, that is my first advice.

I started selling with the last thread and got a lot of good support there but I am still fairly inexperienced.

Personally I would wait and see how each bundle went on it's own but, like I say, I am not hugely experienced.

Fergoose knows a lot about the rules of ebay so she might be able to advise.

I do know that once you have a bid on an item then you can't sell it to someone else, you just have to let the auction run its course. If you haven't had a bit yet then I think the rules are different.

But don't post anything until their payment to you has cleared.

roguepixie · 06/01/2012 14:32

Oooooh, can I join too?

I have Ebayed for some time but it really is only personal stuff, I'm not a power seller or anything.

I have a few items on at the moment but noticed they have a free listing weekend this weekend so will be loading up my page with dvd's/cd's and some clothes...have a pair of Prada shoes to shift as well (given to me, I'm not in that market if spend myself Smile). So far, on the items I have listed I have sold a total of £3.99 worth!!!!! Well, I have to start somewhere Grin.

Good luck to everyone.

PollyMorfic · 06/01/2012 14:40

MyOhMy, tell them you're happy to combine postage for multiple purchases, and quote them a cost for sending all three bundles together. That way they have an incentive to bid on all your items, but you still leave it open to other people to outbid them.

I generally don't take people up who are asking for a buy it now price because they're usually chancers and the item will go for more if you let the auction run - tho obv if they offer you a really high price then just take it. If they live near you and want to collect, then make sure you insist on cash on collection only, rather than paypal.

ClaimedByMe · 06/01/2012 14:48

signing in, i kinda gave up on the christmas thread but i have to start ploughing through the loft......

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 14:50

Good advice Polly I am rusty already.

Hi Claimed - I stopped a few weeks before Christmas because I was wary of the Christmas post and it all got a bit crazy but I am keen to get going again.

OP posts:
Snapespeare · 06/01/2012 15:15

yes absolutely, but I am trying desperately to confine myself to free listing weekends!

MyOhMyOh · 06/01/2012 19:28

Thanks Carrots and Polly. I'll take both your advice and offer to combine postage and also not send before I receive payment. Smile

I had a quick look at the christmas thread and got some great ideas on stuff it wouldnt have occured to me to list. I'm getting a bit obsessed and am now assessing everything in the house for sellability Grin

LovesBloominChristmas · 06/01/2012 19:30

Count me in. Free listing this weekend so go, go, go!

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 22:54

So.... free listing this weekend means only paying a final fee, correct? But I would have to get all of the items I want to sell up in one go this weekend?

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 22:54

Sorry -- hi! I think I might want to try this but I'm new and could use some help/advice.

LovesBloominChristmas · 06/01/2012 22:56

Yep

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 22:59

Can I put some stuff up tomorrow and some on Sunday? Or do I need to do them all at once?
