Go CAAAAAAV! Boy done good, can't believe he ended the tour in green, as my team name may suggest I picked him out of sheer affection with very little faith he'd stay the course. Thank you Caleb for filling that role for me.

Missed watching most of it live due to hectic new job and parents staying but there you are, I'm lucky to have both. Think this was probably my most successful wooden spoon campaign though, for which my eternal thanks go to my excellent team for as always falling and retiring early as well as Miguel Angel Lopez for being utterly mediocre before leaving 2 days ago for the Olympics.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 18/07/2021 22:57

I had Miguel Angel Lopez as well. What was he doing? Nothing!

Was reading that Dan Martin has just completed 4 grand tours in 10 months. I imagine that's a bit tiring.

Well no more cycling for a bit then (apart from Olympics next Saturday and Sunday).

JofraArchersFastestBall · 19/07/2021 03:28

What a shame the Cav fairytale didn't quite go to plan. Still, far better than we would have dared to expect for Cav this time last year.

(JessFD is me - more happy to claim my team this time than my absolutely woeful Giro team Grin)

BookWorm45 · 19/07/2021 05:19

Thank you MNers and Felicity especially for setting the team up. this was a really fun TdF, helped by your comments

FelicityLemon · 19/07/2021 06:27

Shame Cav couldnt manage the fairytale ending, but until the break caught Brent van Moer at 200m to go on stage 3 even I as a Quick-Step fan couldnt imagine Cav even getting one stage.
When I think how far he has come I can't be too disappointed.

Thanks all for making it a fun Tour and I will tag everyone again for the Vuelta (or message you) let me know what is best for getting attention. Also pass along the word to anyone who may be interested, see if we can grow the league.
I made a donation to velogames so I was entered into a couple of other their competitions, I have to say I did no better in those than this one!

Love the videos, Felicity, and thank you for organising the league. I haven't quite got to grips with the other velogames competitions. Well done Jess/Jofra.

Apologies for a little maternal pride, but we were a bit shocked last night as DD ended up in tenth place for the whole velogames league. She'd picked all three of the podium and Van Aert. I've always wondered what sort of people top the table and now I know! I will not be inviting her to join the mumsnet league.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 19/07/2021 17:33

Top 10 is very impressive! You'll be stealing her ideas for la Vuelta.

DearHeidiHansen · 19/07/2021 18:02

She won't divulge anything until it's too late to make changes!

MrsAvocet · 20/07/2021 20:00

Anyone else suffering from withdrawal symptoms? I went to put the tv on this afternoon and then had that awful realisation that yesterday wasn't a rest day!
Discovered that the ToB is coming very close to me this year though so might actually see some live pro cycling this year. We'd normally go to La Vuelta around the same time so it's not quite that, but good all the same. 🙂

EndoplasmicReticulum · 20/07/2021 21:48

Yes! I went to switch the telly on too. Have missed two Tour de Yorkshires live, hope we get that back next year.

FelicityLemon · 21/07/2021 13:23

Am also suffering withdrawal and todays stage of Tour de Wallonie has been cancelled due to flooding.

Tour of Britain is not coming anywhere near me this year. Boo!

Shall I set up a league for that? (I only say that because the one time we did I won it by some total fluke!)

DearHeidiHansen · 21/07/2021 17:43

Yes please to a Tour of Britain league. Missing the Tour but enjoying seeing lots of familiar faces in Japan on Instagram wearing unfamiliar kit, with the obligatory photo with Mount Fuji in the background. Contemplating how early I'm going to get up for the road races at the weekend.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 21/07/2021 18:05

I'm hoping we can watch later on red button or similar. I don't do early at the weekends.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 21/07/2021 18:12

My fairly obvious predictions - Wout van Aert for gentlemans race. The winner of the woman's race will be wearing orange.

TottiePlantagenet · 22/07/2021 11:54

Thank you Felicity for the thread (even though I don't do the vélo games thing, I'm incompetent with more tech). Enjoy reading about everyone else's choices going up or down though

Extra thanks for that disturbing Cofidis gossip 🧛‍♂️ :)

Such a shame for Cav but this Tour has been a great achievement any way. Wout is an amazing rider too, seems too young! to be a father on that podium, cute baby.

FelicityLemon · 24/07/2021 06:50

So anyone up watching the road race? Beautiful forest they are going through.

NutellaEllaElla · 24/07/2021 07:42

Just turned it on. I'm really starting to wonder about G. It's amazing he hasn't been more badly injured, he seems to crash every race.

FelicityLemon · 24/07/2021 08:21

I know he crashed out of nowhere, don't know how that happened.

OP posts:
Pan2 · 24/07/2021 08:32

Just on phone from bed!
Oh G. What does he do with himself??

prettybird · 24/07/2021 08:46

He's retired from the race now Sad TGH still in.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 24/07/2021 08:55

No BBC I am not interested in gymnastics. Trying to watch cycling!

Pan2 · 24/07/2021 08:55

It is a lot like the Rio descent isn't it?

I remember van Vluten on the deck with her head at a weird angle as she was leading the race and set for victory, only to come off. Awful.

NutellaEllaElla · 24/07/2021 09:22

That made me feel absolutely sick to my stomach seeing her land like that. I thought she'd never recover.
