Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

Seen a few Twitter comments about how shocking the Sunday Independent is for "showcasing " this bigotry and how it was "Co-ordinated" correspondence and how the names of the anonymous writers should be published.
Same old hyperbolic reaction to people saying there needs to be more discussion about the consequences of self-ID for women.
More people will see it. More sunlight on this stuff.

That's so sinister - they want the names of these people so they can presumably harass them online.

Why do they respond to everything with a threat of some sort, or completely disproportionate hysterics - it's shows such a lack or reason, like a toddler tantrum.

PleasantBirthday · 27/06/2022 15:46

I can't think of another time in my life when people were so outraged about disagreement with some views. The extreme over reaction is very concerning. And it's from adults at times!

Is this dick Irish?

Screenshot of a screenshot. The account has been taken down now.

Here's a better screenshot. Can't wait for politicians to come out criticising it. And to show what horrible shit "the other side" comes out with in its "both sides" arguments.

Forget about the politicians. The Gardaí should be looking for a search warrant.

bellinisurge · 02/07/2022 09:44

Hope Police Scotland (where she lives) are talking to them

And yet we are the unreasonable ones, apparently!

The amount of crap JKR has had to put up with is horrific. And you're right, when stuff like this happens, there tends to be tumbleweeds from the vocal lefties who would fall over themselves to scream righteously if we misgender someone.
It's very clear that 'be kind' only extends to certain people with very specific views.

bellinisurge · 02/07/2022 18:06

These knobheads seem to justify this crap because they think misgendering and asking questions about women's safety is literal violence. And so we are asking for it. Same misogyny, different hair dye.

Wonder if he will be at Dublin Trans Pride. You'd think not - but maybe the poor ickle pipe bomber would like the drama and martyrdom?

The Garda Siochána don't fill one with confidence on these issues. Hopefully Police Scotland will take it more seriously.

So I see good old Panti is now promoting a bookshop in Westport doing drag queen story time and his minions are all over the place calling people fascists for not thinking it's a good idea that that people dealing with children should have garda vetting.

Why is it so important for kids to see drag queens and why is garda vetting so unimportant?

bellinisurge · 04/07/2022 10:10

Adults want to enjoy drag? Fine. I mean, I think it's womanface but I'm in a minority. But it is adult entertainment. For adults. Drag queen story hour is not pantomime fun at Christmas. It is boundary blurring to make kids feel wrong for feeling uncomfortable around sexualised adults. And who benefits when kids are taught to ignore their instincts?

There's something quite sinister about the want to dismantle basic safeguarding that seems to be creeping in. We know because of historical cases that opportunistic predators will use any means necessary to get at children, and yet somehow if people have a 'special identity' they are supposed to be above reproach. We all know where that ends!

And no, it's not that I think trans people are any more likely to be predators, but rather that predators will see it as a useful tool to infiltrate and exploit.

Is it just me, or is the pride flag everywhere this year (when did Pride have a whole month, is that new?) I never really noticed it before, and it never would have bothered me, but now I see it as part of something that supports an ideology that actively works against women and girls. And it's hiding in plain sight.
And why do so many women in Ireland not wake up and see this? Maybe because as a society we treated homosexuality so badly, mostly because of the teachings of the catholic church, for so many years, and now there is a push to show how lovely and tolerant and liberal and not like our parents generation we are, that we seem to be going along with the whole package gung ho.

But the T is nothing like LGB, it requires mass delusion and a rejection of logic and common sense from everyone, and is incredibly misogynistic and homophobic - how can people not see this?

Abhannmor · 04/07/2022 11:04

Yes @Roseglen84 . The first response to any criticism of these activities is often a remark or joke about a sacred caste with men in dresses ie the Church and its priesthood.
No awareness of the similarities. I often wonder how parents would react if their school took young children to see a female burlesque artist reading fairy stories. I imagine they'd think it was rather strange - to put it mildly

The bookshop is a privately owned business of course so it's up to the owners I guess. As for libraries - we need to speak to local councillors about this issue. They are financed by our taxes. And a few votes make a lot of difference locally

ShowerOfShite · 06/07/2022 16:22

This has just been posted by the National Council for Women.
I've commented that only women and girls have periods.
Not those who experience or people who menstruate.

They have managed to use the word "Woman" in the tweet.
I guess people with bleeding needs may have been too colloquial to work

@ShowerOfShite well done.

Narcoticsexpressnyavan · 06/07/2022 18:04

I'm on a guerilla stickering mission right now. If you find an adult human female sticker, chances are I put it there. In many ways a tiny and futile gesture, but I feel I need to be doing something. As for the lack of Garda checks on drag Queens, what the fuck? In education you need a Garda check before you look at a kid. Why is this different?

ShowerOfShite · 06/07/2022 18:57

Thanksnarcotic I am being called transphobic and some fella can't see what I lose by being inclusive.
And to PP, no gesture is futile.

VaddaABeetch · 07/07/2022 17:47

@Narcoticsexpressnyavan where did you get the stickers? I feel a campaign coming on.

Yes, would love to do a bit of stickering.

bellinisurge · 08/07/2022 07:42

There's a few options for getting stickers from UK ( I'm in UK and have few people from BirdyRose that I dot about). Not sure about postage fees. I'm in Ireland in autumn, I'll remember to do a bit of judicious dotting when I'm there.

VaddaABeetch · 08/07/2022 08:42

I ordered stickers from Birdie Rose last night. I can’t wait to start stickering.

Roseglen84 · 08/07/2022 16:40

Thanks for the heads up, I checked out Birdie Rose, her stuff is brilliant. I just ordered some stickers and a mug 😀

Abhannmor · 08/07/2022 21:22

The Famous Artist Birdy Rose is a sound woman. And very funny !

Spencerfig · 13/07/2022 12:27

I don't have teenage children, mine are primary going still...we haven't come accross any trans discussions yet nor is it mentioned in schools... How common is it in teenagers? Is it more common in mixed or single sex schools? Why is it more prevalent within neurodiverse kids? I think as other posters said I'm a bit head in the sand & not clued in... However I would hate to see any child's life ruined as they were hopping on the latest trend & the children who really are struggling not getting the help they need...
