Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

It's a ridiculous religion, at least the Abrahamic God managed to get the right souls in the right bodies. The Trans God is terribly cack-handed.

Dublin Pride have dropped RTE as sponsors.....the Journal is not taking comments.

Did they miss that this is Ireland, anybody doing a wobbler RTE not paying out the TV Licence money!!

The adults in the room voted on gay marraige, elected women presidents and gay men when a late night park run was still illegal.

Reading the end of the statement its the tail wagging the dog.

They will have the finances to run events from corporate sources.
The corporations tick the social blurb with nice pics and some advertising.
RTE will choose to turn up and report on local events.
If people act like pricks RTE will edit the coverage or air the "gobshite".
RTE having to find other local interest stories...

The opening pic and comment

The language used, the arrangement of the ideas.
Good editors are hysterical

And in much more exciting news, the High Court are going to end up producing a shopping list for groceries.
Anybody taking bets for when the High Court gets to decide on the living in a woman gender list?

I was actually hounded off a fb group of women, just for mildly defending J K Rowling. Told to 'fuck off'. I am concerned that RTE has been cancelled just for discussing these things. Is freedom of expression on the way out? I don't like feeling that I can't say what I think.
I watched the documentary on rte about trans in Ireland and one girl who was getting surgery to be male was so sad when she said she was giving up her chance to have children. She just said 'maybe I can adopt'. What is this madness.

Thank you @Muppetryofthepenis of the penis for pointing me to the programme.

I listened back during my morning run.

great to see this aired on RTE, wonder if they’ll go in for a grovelling apology now though?

will Joe be cancelled?!

Would it be useful to post on the Feminism board too?

romdowa · 15/06/2022 09:34

Irish here and we really seem to be a nation who try to out do each other on how woke we are , all in the name of looking good. I know a lot of people who privately would admit that it's all heading down a dangerous path but would be afraid to admit it publicly. The lunatics really are running the asylum in our little country.

SolasAnla · 15/06/2022 09:43

It probably the best advertising Liveline has gotten in years. Complaining about a phone in talkshow allowing callers is an own goal.

RTE has done plenty of "soft" human interest stories which may have been more educational than was intended. A documented history of poor mental health, the need for radical elective cosmetic surgery, and the public perception that even babies need to affirm the adults identity or there is a increased risk of suicide.
I can't see any issues which may arise in the adoption process.

There’s a Reddit thread on the Pride dropping RTE thing.

A few months ago the comments would’ve been predictable, but this time there’s multiple people pointing out the flaws in the ideology.

I've literally just finished reading that thread. It's the aggressive stupidity that I find scary. They genuinely don't seem to understand that anyone can disagree with them without being just unthinking bigots out to just be mean to vulnerable people for no reason other than pure evil.

Muppetryofthepenis · 15/06/2022 12:56

I'm happy to debate with someone about it but I'm not happy to be essentially shut down and not be allowed say anything.

All my other views are relatively left wing but I just don't see the merit in pretending you can change sex and then sterilising young people. Or if they're not sterilised, we're all pretending that a 'man can have a baby'. No, they're a biological woman having a baby. Live the way you want and love whoever you want but I don't think we need to change the definition of a man and a woman.

PRIDE also dropped their partnership with RTE in 2014. So 🙄

It's like the students boycotting the Irish times when they all have a free subscription anyway. Radical.

CliffsofMohair · 15/06/2022 22:19

Nothing useful to add but OP Miriam O’Callaghan style genuinely funniest username Ive ever read on MN 👏

DramaAlpaca · 15/06/2022 23:47

@CliffsofMohair I love your username. Whenever I see it I wish I'd thought of it. Very clever.

CliffsofMohair · 16/06/2022 07:00

Aw thanks @DramaAlpaca ! When I see yours I think of a flamboyant sunglasses toting Alpaca 😁

PleasantBirthday · 16/06/2022 11:02

Anyway so Mick Clifford in the Examiner today:

This is one, it seems, for fans of the Streisand Effect.

bellinisurge · 16/06/2022 11:40

The Countess has some very interesting polling on this. Everyone is all for be kind until they realise that the person that is still intact has unfettered access to women's single sex spaces. I'm sorry I don't have a link.
I do have a link to a recent UK poll which says the same sort of thing. If you want to use it to show how kind and tolerant people generally are, you will see that in the poll. You will also see that over 50 percent of respondents do NOT think transmen are men and do NOT think transwomen are women. And yet public policy is being made on the misguided idea that most people think they are.

bellinisurge · 16/06/2022 11:43

@PleasantBirthday , that is an excellent article. More sunlight on this is what we need. Not less.

PleasantBirthday · 16/06/2022 12:01

Sure is. I think Dublin Pride have scored an immense unforced own goal here and I'm delighted for the petulant little pups.

PleasantBirthday · 16/06/2022 12:16

And they're also not going to like this either:

www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/clips/22109816/

It seems like RTE haven't been cowed :-(

bellinisurge · 16/06/2022 12:27

Yes, I heard that. Nice to hear that the job comes with a spine. The horrendous attempt to like this discussion to discussions about "whether black people are inferior ". Really disgusting.

PleasantBirthday · 16/06/2022 12:29

It is, it really is horrific. I did like the way he didn't even bother answering it. If anyone wasn't against this in RTE before, I'd say the shocking things that are now being said about them are very quickly turning allies into people with a lot of questions.

bellinisurge · 16/06/2022 12:38

I didn't have a link to the Countess' poll in my previous tweet. Here it is:

bellinisurge · 16/06/2022 13:31

More wonderful work by The Countess. Please watch if you get chance

@bellinisurge just watched and that has made me weep with frustration.
