Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

Thank you @threetimeslucky & @Farmageddon it sounds like we need to be detailing the flaws in black & white when emailing the tds... I don't want it modified. I would like it abolished & a seperate set of trans rights & trans spaces created.
Something tells me the trans groups are raging.. They're being stopped in their tracks.

Varadkar doesn't want Fine Gael 'dragged into' a culture war on transgender issues

The Irish Examiner report on the FG party meeting has more details the Independent one. Including this:

Deputy Alan Farrell said many people lack knowledge on the issue and "just don't know what they are talking about".

This was echoed by Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, who said she had been contacted by a Fine Gael grassroots member who said she was worried about the safety of her daughters, and the possibility of males being able to use changing rooms.

She pointed out that "even our own supporters" have become fearful of issues that are not based in reality, and more education and discussion are needed.

And today, the Taoiseach has this, if you can believe him:

Varadkar warns against turning gender equality vote into debate on trans issues

I think we shouldn’t be afraid to talk about it, because if we don’t talk about it and anchor it in the centre, then the extremes will do all the talking. And they just want to shout at each other.

So, no shouting at the LWS rally in Dublin, TRAs.

PleasantBirthday · 30/03/2023 17:51

I think that the people who enacted the legislation without widespread acceptance are the ones who've dragged us into a culture war and if I was planning to be re-elected, I'd probably be slow to publicly insult those constituents who contacted me.

WaveyGodshawk · 30/03/2023 18:23

Oh ffs. I think deputy Farrell is the one who doesn't know what he's talking about

WaveyGodshawk · 30/03/2023 18:25

They've swallowed it hook, line and sinker haven't they

Is Jennifer normally so patronising about the people who elected her?
A little less arrogance and a little more listening would be good.

AppleCharlottie · 30/03/2023 18:41

Oh, some of those quotes are infuriating aren't they? At least Charlie Flanagan seemed better informed and admitted that serious mistakes were madè in the legislation (in the Examiner article linked by @Genesis1v27 above). It would be nice if the others actually started listening to what women are saying too.

KJK has tweeted she Dublin rally cancelled due to lack of garda resources & Bidens visit. Belfast going ahead. Panti Piss retweeted KJKs tweet saying she's bottled out of Dublin.. What a piece of shit.

bellinisurge · 31/03/2023 07:19

I think at least some people who were planning to go to the Dublin event will go to Belfast. Interesting to see how the "blow in bigot" angle plays out if that's the case.

VaddaABeetch · 31/03/2023 07:24

I’ll be going to Belfast with a banner…anybody else here going?

Leopardprintonsie · 31/03/2023 07:28

I see alot of the trans twitter crowd are mobilising the troops to head North. Can't make Belfast DH is working but I'll be at the new Dublin date.

3timeslucky · 31/03/2023 07:48

Is there a new Dublin date or promise of one?

Leopardprintonsie · 31/03/2023 07:59

No new date but the KJKs tweet says she's planing on rescheduling.

elgreco · 31/03/2023 08:13

I would hav gone to the Dublin one. But with my husband as I would be scared of the TRAs.

If anyone wants to complain to RTE about their poster boy advocating abuse to KJK on twitter, here is the email :

Excellent thank you, I'll email this morning

Leopardprintonsie · 31/03/2023 10:43

@Farmageddon email sent & response received to say it's been passed onto to be included in the weekly feedback. The more emails they get the better. He is inciting hate towards women & is a representative on RTÉ. Would love to see him removed off the airwaves. He has too many platforms.

Leopardprintonsie · 31/03/2023 13:48

Panti has just tweeted trans people are under attack & it's scary... Can he for one second imagine what it's like for biological women. What an absolute hypocrite.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 31/03/2023 14:28

I might still get to Belfast but I really hope the Dublin event is rescheduled. Such a shame. Otherwise they'll spin it that N.Ireland isn't Ireland and therefore Ireland are so inclusive and kind etc etc...

How exactly is women gathering together and speaking about our issues and concern an attack? I don't get how a group of people meeting at a designated place is so scary that it has to be shut down and vilified. It's such a massive over reaction.

He's being ridiculous, and typical male outrage at women doing anything for ourselves.

VaddaABeetch · 31/03/2023 15:19

It gets more & more like an episode of Fr Ted. Those women standing there womaning , having opinions & wanting to talk to each other. It’s obvious what they’re going to do…quick let’s attack them first.

Where & when are these Trans People being attacked?

Leopardprintonsie · 31/03/2023 15:38

@VaddaABeetch thanks for the giggle you're so right it is like fecking Father Ted... Did you look at his twitter? Pathetic tweets. I guess he knows the public mood is shifting & he's trying to go down the sympathy route as the defensive aggressive route isn't working..

VaddaABeetch · 31/03/2023 15:48

@Leopardprintonsie sadly I haven’t read the tweets. the doctor told me as a menopausal woman that I have to keep my blood pressure down. I’ve also just got a new phone & don’t want to smash it against the wall just yet.

Farmageddon · 31/03/2023 16:05

I got a response to my complaint to RTE, stating that ROC is not an employee of RTE, only that he was once a contestant on DWTS.
I may have mixed him up with the guy who does the bingo and thought he was employed by them...oops.

Oh well, from the annoyed tone of the response, they may have gotten many emails about this.

Next stop - my enchanting local TDs who never seem to respond ....

More censorship from RTÉ, he's refereed to an author on RTÉs website & is often a guest speaker..
