Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

@Abhannmor youre right. All those feckin Drag Queens look the same to me.

Abhannmor · 29/03/2023 16:34

@VaddaABeetch he seems to have retired Shirley and does the bingo as Declan.

VaddaABeetch · 29/03/2023 17:04

Is this what De Valera had in mind when he talked of comely maidens dancing at the crossroads.

Did he have improved maidens plus in mind? with their big maiden hands & big maiden shoulders & big maiden feet?

Leopardprintonsie · 29/03/2023 17:29

The facebook comments under the Gripts article about that woman hating Rory are spot on.. One stood out.... "The progressive left, they are all for freedom of speech until you speak against them, then then shut you down & attack you".

How dare these Transgender groups attempt to derail the women's rights speech on April 15th. Are women not allowed have our say?

Has anybody screen shot his threats? I can see it disappearing.

Glinner used it in a tweet. So I'd say he has it at least. I saved Glinners tweet which contained it.

If you are paying for the RTE services as we fund the BBC, can you make a request via womens rights organisations to have him removed, as a danger to women?

Maybe get some from Australia, New Zealand and the ones from Sex matters to all write along with Glinner?

AncientBallerina · 29/03/2023 21:27

Glad to see that man with his revolting drag name letting his mask slip.

The UK home office didn't like KJK being assaulted in NZ, it's not going to help Anglo Irish relations if something happens again.

I would also consider mentioning that KJK has irish ancestry and from what I can gather is entitled to Irish nationality through a grandfather, so could be mid process or possess an Irish passport, so if she is Irish citizen you would remove the British colonists argument.

Resharing a couple of posts from @AeroMintChocolate from the thread that's going on over on Aibu.. Very interesting comments & thanks @AeroMintChocolate

Good to see that they are getting worried. But too late to get my vote back. I voted for them for years but wasn't worthy of a reply when I wrote to my local FG TD on this. The only time I ever contacted them about anything.

Good. At least they are starting to take notice. I emailed my local TD's about 18 months ago regarding the Equality legislation and got no response. This time when I emailed my concern about teaching gender ideology in schools I got two. Maybe they are finally realising this isn't going to go away quietly, and we aren't going to shut up about this.

FWIW, it makes me so annoyed to hear them use the term 'complex' repeatedly when referring to these issues - it's not bloody complex. It certainly wasn't complex when they enacted laws that took away women's rights to single sex spaces.
But suddenly the idea of saying no to a bunch of demanding and irrational men is 'complex'. Fuck off.

Leopardprintonsie · 29/03/2023 21:59

Brilliant news. Just emailed our local one this evening about Rory O Neills tweets this evening.

VaddaABeetch · 29/03/2023 22:04

I’ve emailed my TDs too about RON.

Leopardprintonsie · 29/03/2023 22:14

@VaddaABeetch brilliant! It's obviously working if their getting worried in the Dáil 😊 Good news & we need to keep the resistence up.

Abhannmor · 29/03/2023 22:42

I think Kellie's granny was from Cork. If so an Irish citizen if she so decides. How delicious.

Perhaps Commandant O Neill of the Dublin 4 Brigade would tone down the phony nationalist rhetoric for once. I mean we are republicans too pal.

Can the GRA be reversed?

3timeslucky · 30/03/2023 07:45

Of course the GRA can be reversed, or modified or reframed. All legislation can.

3timeslucky · 30/03/2023 07:48

@Farmageddon Would you email again, copying in the TDs who have spoken on this, copying that article, and asking again what your TD, as your elected representative, is doing/going to do/what their position is? They're starting to wake-up to the fact that this matters, isn't going away and is going to be a doorstep issue in the next GE. So they have to have a position and be wiling to defend it.

Well it need to be reversed pronto or else go to a general referendum & let the public decide this time.

VaddaABeetch · 30/03/2023 08:00

@Leopardprintonsie I believe it doesn’t need a referendum as nor enshrined in the constitution

Leopardprintonsie · 30/03/2023 09:26

@VaddaABeetch so does that mean it's up to the government to backtrack & reverse the law?

Thanks, yes I will do. Hopefully they'll get their head out of their ass and actually take notice. I have a feeling some of our TDs are hiding under their desks waiting for this to blow over - not a chance buddy!

Leopardprintonsie - It wouldn't need a referendum, as it's not a constitutional change. It would need a public outcry for the government to get going on this, they clearly want to ignore it and hope for the best. That's why we need to keep pushing and keep talking about this. I'm hoping that by the time the general election comes in 2024 this will be an issue they are forced to consider.

I do remember a few years ago the government had to row back pretty sharpish on some legislation that stopped the media or anybody from naming underage murder victims. Until the families of the victim protested and said they were then unable to publicly talk about their loved one, so they had to amend it within just a few weeks of the law being enacted. So it definitely can be done if needed.

The actual legislation itself states something saying that the minister will review it in 2 years (as far as I remember), but I'm not sure that ever happened. I read somewhere recently that almost 900 certificates have been issued so far. It's only going to get more popular when predatory men realise what a golden ticket it is.

As an aside - I'm quite unsettled by the upcoming referendum trying to shoehorn the word gender into the constitution. The cynical part of me thinks this is some way to constitutionally protect the concept of gender. Or maybe I'm just so cynical these days...

3timeslucky · 30/03/2023 16:13

@Farmageddon You're definitely not the only one concerned that the Referendum is being used in that way. We may all be very cynical but we may also be right.

3timeslucky · 30/03/2023 16:16

@Leopardprintonsie Like the other posters have said, this isn't in the Constitution so there's no referendum option. But legislation can be modified. But that means the government have to see the flaws in the legislation (it is flawed as it is unclear about what sex and gender refer to (as gender is used interchangeably with sex at least some of the time) and the gender ground (which was the basis of sex based equality protections for women is now open to misinterpretation). I also think they have to see it as deeply unpopular legislation and that this is a vote losing/vote gaining issue. For many of them that's all they care about (and yes that is definitely cynical!)
