I don't even know where is cheap anymore....

Sinkintotheswamp · 23/01/2025 16:53

You're better off buying organic butter. It's a few pence cheaper.

This shocked me the other day. Who'd pay that? It's on offer now, but wasn't the other day.

I was looking for DS's shampoo and spied some Head and Shoulders at £9

It was a big bottle but was quite shocked at the price

FindusMakesPancakes · 23/01/2025 17:29

Their own brand is £1.99. Even the Taste the Difference one is £2.75, so still cheaper. Not sure why anyone would buy branded butter. Personally, I can't tell the difference.

spicemaiden · 23/01/2025 17:30

I stopped buying butter when it hit £1:45

senua · 23/01/2025 17:38

Is it so that next week they can tell us they have "slashed the price".Hmm

florasl · 23/01/2025 17:43

M&S’s 500g pack is £3.75 and nicer!

Cheapest block butters from Ocado.

Olive oil is also incredibly expensive now. On a tip from someone here, I bought a huge carton of cold-pressed rapeseed oil which is much cheaper (unit price) and does a good job.

Butter is the one thing I keep buying.

I've just stocked up on our favourite butter - President semi-salted - at Tesco. It's on offer at £2.25 for Clubcard holders, usually £3.

JC03745 · 23/01/2025 17:50

Last year, I posted about the basics range butter in a Tesco metro in London being £4. Not an express Tesco, a metro one in zone 2!

Paperthin · 23/01/2025 17:51

I was shopping the other day and also noticed that some butters were packaged in 200g packs now rather than 250g. So they look cheaper but actually you are getting 20% less.

SleepingisanArt · 23/01/2025 17:52

You also need to look at the sizes - Yeo Valley butter is only 200g whereas the Country Life one is 250g. President is increasing in size from 200g (£2.70) to 250g (£3).

This is always on offer for £3something

ChestnutGrove · 23/01/2025 18:02

I like Lurpak. I only buy it when it's on offer and freeze it. The block butter and the Lighter spreadable version both freeze well.

DazzlingCuckoos · 23/01/2025 18:04

Making your own butter seems to be all the rage on social media at the moment.

Google tells me you'd get 200g of butter out of 300ml of double cream plus 100ml of buttermilk.

300ml of double cream = £1.50 at Sainsburys

Shame the Kilner butter churner is about £50 though!

andyouwillknowusbythetrailofdead · 23/01/2025 18:05

Farmers need to make a living. Cow feed is expensive, as is labour, insurance, vet costs etc etc. Or would you rather we concrete over the countryside and buy our dairy in from maltreated animals living in industrial mega farms in China? You might save a few pence on your butter.

Thingymajigii · 23/01/2025 18:05

Poundland sells Lurpak butter (not the spreadable variety) for £1.99

I can't believe it's not the butter where you can taste the difference from Taste the Difference. 😉

@ChestnutGrove do you find it turns quicker?

I saw this too and took a picture! I just couldn’t believe it! Who would buy it at that price?!
