When do you put the heating on?

I’ve turned the heating on as it’s super chilly in the house. Already got warm socks and a blanket but got me thinking when do others put their heating on?

I swore I wouldn’t put it on before October but here I am…

It's 12 degrees here today so it's very suddenly gone from very warm to autumn weather in the space of about three days!

ginandtonicwithlimes · 15/09/2023 17:22

21 in our house and we are in Yorkshire. Probably try to get to the middle of October if possible!

MidgesGirdle · 15/09/2023 17:26

It's 19 outside at the moment - northwest. Today got quite warm actually.

I'll do my best to hold off turning the heating on but don't have a set date in mind. Depends on the weather!

Nyancat · 15/09/2023 17:35

Down to 17 inside today so have stuck it on, last week couldn't sleep it was so hot. Its really dropped since yesterday.

Flakey99 · 15/09/2023 17:37

Where I live it's 19° indoors and about 13° outside and very wet too. 😕

generalexpert · 15/09/2023 17:43

It never gets turned off. So if it gets cold, the heating kicks in.

I also have the windows open with the heating on Grin

Am I missing some beautiful uk weather? It’s been chucking it down and cold all day where I live

Cold, wet, dreich where I am

StoatofDisarray · 15/09/2023 18:10

I have a very small bird-safe heater for the parrot on cold days. Otherwise, I never put the heaters on.

Desecratedcoconut · 15/09/2023 18:14

You never put the heaters on?...Is this where you say you have a log burning stove or are you actually getting through the winter with no heat?

Desecratedcoconut · 15/09/2023 18:15

I'd be getting in the cage with the parrot by November.

Bibbitybobbitty · 15/09/2023 18:16

Ours kicked in this week, thermostat set for 19 degrees & it's colder than this in Scotland

catslikeparties · 15/09/2023 18:19

When it's cold.

Last year I got to early November, so I hope to do the same again, but it will go on earlier if it's needed.

Sprogonthetyne · 15/09/2023 18:23

On in the October half term, then off in the half term between Christmas and Easter.

Roselilly36 · 15/09/2023 18:25

Really hot here, windows open and fan on at night. East Anglia. Can’t imagine we will consider putting the heating on for a while.

ApolloandDaphne · 15/09/2023 18:26

It was 17 degrees in our house earlier and I was cold so I popped it on for an hour. I've got the log burner on now.

43ontherocksporfavor · 15/09/2023 18:26

Some point in October. As late as possible. Current sitting in the garden with a glass of wine, nice and warm and had fan in in bedroom’s last night! P.s I am 52….

I'm in the 4th floor of a modern block with flats above behind and on each side of me. The main room and single bedroom have double glazed ceiling length windows and doors and they are south facing so it just doesn't get cold. It's like the observation lounge in the sci fi film Sunshine in the summer though :-(

Spottytoddler · 15/09/2023 18:32

I refuse to have mine on for more than 6 months of the year so it is always off by the end of April and never ever goes on before the start of October regardless of the Temp outside. However I try to make it to my birthday without putting the heating on which is near the end of October and then I put it on as a birthday treat to myself 😂

Lol! I'm in central London so it's not as cold as the surrounding areas.

noname846 · 15/09/2023 18:34

When it feels too cold without it.

I think my husband will throw a tantrum if he knows I turned it on!

Does he pay all the bills? Even if he does, he should respect others in the house.

fluffi · 15/09/2023 18:36

As late as possible, once it gets to 17/18 indoors during the daytime - ideally not before November but depends on the weather!

Currently 24C indoors here - building holds the summer heat a bit too well. Will open windows to cool it down but 21C still!

LolaSmiles · 15/09/2023 18:39

Ours comes on when the indoor temperature drops to either 16 or 18 for getting ready and from late afternoon to the evening.
In the day in it's usually off because we have the windows open and I'm not spending a fortune to heat the street.

Cookerhood · 15/09/2023 18:45

23 in our living room at the moment. The coldest it's been lately is dipping to just below 21 last night. Hoping not to put the heating on for a while yet.

Woollyguru · 15/09/2023 18:46

Last year we held out until 1st December! It was a bit of a contest between all our friends of who could wait the longest. We won.

We wore multiple layers and had a duvet on the sofa. Luckily our kitchen where we spend the most time is generally quite warm.

Won't wait as long this year.
