When do you put the heating on?

I’ve turned the heating on as it’s super chilly in the house. Already got warm socks and a blanket but got me thinking when do others put their heating on?

I swore I wouldn’t put it on before October but here I am…

I popped ours on for a couple of hours on Wednesday. I already had my Oodie on!

We're in Scotland and it's now very obvious that the year is on the turn.

Yep I’m near the borders and can really feel the turn now

Mine has gone on today as it's 11C

KnittedCardi · 15/09/2023 16:15

Currently 24 outside in the shade, more in the sun, and 22 inside. All the windows and doors open. I was just gardening, with sweat running down my neck! Come in to cool down!!

Lunchmenuplease · 15/09/2023 16:17

It's usually not until late October/early November for me and i try and only have it on if the temperature outside drops below 10° but I usually don't succeed with this goal.
Right now I'm on my lounger in the garden in shorts and a vest as its 24°☀️

LBOCS2 · 15/09/2023 16:18

When it's less than 16.5c indoors the thermostat will turn it on, in conjunction with the timer.

Currently 21.5c.

dutysuite · 15/09/2023 16:18

Err I’ve had the fan on so not yet.

JanesBlond · 15/09/2023 16:19

When it gets below 17 degrees in the house in daytime. It’s currently 24 in the study where I am now and I’m at my desk in shorts and tshirt. So I think it won’t be for some time.

Gh12345 · 15/09/2023 16:19

Am I missing some beautiful uk weather? It’s been chucking it down and cold all day where I live

24 degrees and sunny here in South London 😁

JanesBlond · 15/09/2023 16:21

Lovely sunny warm day in London. The premium you have to pay to live in the SE at least comes with better weather included 😎

Hotcrossbunhero · 15/09/2023 16:23

I fear you are! 23C in Greater Manchester, I’m sat outside and it’s gorgeous.

EbiRaisukaree · 15/09/2023 16:25

It’s off off during the summer, and stays off off until it starts to be too cold in the house. The stat is set to 18, and even when it’s on, the heating is on a timer for about 5 hours in three periods through the day, and always off at night.

It’s 22 downstairs at the moment and 24 upstairs, on a lovely sunny day, so it feels like the heating going on will be a long way off yet. I usually don’t expect to need it until mid-October at the earliest, unless something unusual happens weather-wise.

TeenLifeMum · 15/09/2023 16:30

Oh wow, I’m in a summer dress with doors and windows open. We usually hang on until as late in October as possible but dh caved last year in September (but then he works from home).

UndercoverCop · 15/09/2023 16:34

When it's cold. It's 24 outside today, I've got all the windows open and it's very warm inside!

It’s 12 now where I live. Wish it was 24!

It’s around 20+ degrees in Manchester area. We’ve had some sunshine today and the house is warm with windows open everywhere. Think it’s 21 on the nest thermostat.

We just put it on when it’s cold and it drops below when the thermostat is set but nowhere near that yet. Sometimes we need to boost the heat to dry washing but it’s only on for an hour or so. We only have the heating on for a handful of hours a day unless a real freezing snap.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 15/09/2023 16:41

Normally put it off as long as possible so beginning of November (ish)

It's boiling hot at the moment in the south west so I have no desire to put it on anytime soon!

illiterato · 15/09/2023 16:52

I’ve still got the ceiling fan on at night and there are people in bikinis on the beach where I live ( south coast). The mornings have that autumnal nip but days are still pretty warm.

Floralnomad · 15/09/2023 16:54

When I feel chilly , as it is we are in the SE , it’s 24 today and I’ve got 2 fans going in my lounge .

Desecratedcoconut · 15/09/2023 16:55

It's 15c and damp outside here this afternoon. It's still 20.5c indoors but I think we are on the last few weeks before it kicks in now and then. By October the difference in gas usage from summer is marked.

Desecratedcoconut · 15/09/2023 16:56

Bikinis? I broke out a wooly jumper today. 😁

cocksstrideintheevening · 15/09/2023 16:57

When it's cold.

It's 26 in my 'office' at the moment.

Vates · 15/09/2023 16:59

It is 23.6 in my flat at the moment and I am sat in front of the fan. I think the temperature limit for me is about 12 to turn the heating on. Thankfully we haven't had a really cold winter in a long time.

SharonEllis · 15/09/2023 17:00

When I'm really cold & cant get the washing dry. Never before October.

Clefable · 15/09/2023 17:03

We have smart radiator valves and schedules for every room, so it just goes on and off in certain rooms when temperatures hit a certain point with nothing hands-on from me, so I don't actively make a decision to turn the heating on. I did notice on the app it had gone on in the baby's room the other evening as it went below 17 in the run-up to bedtime.
