When do you put the heating on?

I’ve turned the heating on as it’s super chilly in the house. Already got warm socks and a blanket but got me thinking when do others put their heating on?

I swore I wouldn’t put it on before October but here I am…

When the indoor temp drops to less than 18degrees, it's 25 today

Decafflatteplease · 15/09/2023 15:13

We try to wait until October half term but usually it's before then. Always wait until October though.

I just put it on if it’s cold. The DH weakens first as he feels the cold

Chypre · 15/09/2023 15:16

The thermostat puts it on if the inside temperature drops below 18c - hasn't happened in South West yet.

CatamaranViper · 15/09/2023 15:18

Yeesh I'm sat here with a fan on!

Usually heating goes on early November. Basically as late as possible and comes off as soon as possible. We'd rather make do with blankets, oodies, hot water bottles etc

Allthestories · 15/09/2023 15:20

Where do you live @Gh12345?
It's 23c in my house and we just have the thermostat set so it goes on at 18c during the day and 7c at night.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 15/09/2023 15:20

When we’re still cold with long trousers, jumper, socks and slippers on indoors!

Usually around the beginning of October. I’ll put the thermostat on at 18 degrees mid September and then if it drops below that in the night we don’t get up to a cold house.

BellaAndDave · 15/09/2023 15:22

Yesterday as it was chilly, I don’t like being cold and our heating comes on if the temp falls below 20. I’ve had the log burner on today too.

I live in the North. 13 degrees outside right now, not sure what the indoor temperature is

It's currently 26° in the living room, probably hotter upstairs. The heating doesn't kick in unless it's 16° (menopausal heat issues) so it'll be a while yet.

I'm in Newcastle and it's 13 degrees outside and 20.5 degrees in here with no heating on.

RoyKentFanclub · 15/09/2023 15:37

Yesterday. But today I’m sitting in the garden in a sundress eating an ice lolly..

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 15/09/2023 15:37

Towards end of October. It’s 20.5 in my very old house that holds no heat, even cold in summer!! And I am also in the north.

no way I would put it on quite yet.

Gh12345 · 15/09/2023 15:43

I think my husband will throw a tantrum if he knows I turned it on!

When I'm cold. Im aware of the privilege.

Theroom · 15/09/2023 15:52

I try and hold out until the clocks change. Last winter we tried to save money and set the thermostat to 18 but my husband hated it. Hoping for 19.5 this year!

Gh12345 · 15/09/2023 15:54

I’ve ordered a little indoor thermometer so I’m not so tempted when the indoor temperature is good. Thanks for your replied everyone.

The minute I feel cold I put it on so I put it on this morning. Can't wait to light the fire!

PurBal · 15/09/2023 15:58

Good gracious not yet! The baby is in just a vest. I’m sweating.

Polis · 15/09/2023 16:06

When it drops below 18 inside.

It’s over 22 inside today and feels warmer outside, so not yet!

PinkRoses1245 · 15/09/2023 16:08

When it's very cold! We never use a timer either, just put it on if we really need to. better to heat yourself than the house/room.

weegiemum · 15/09/2023 16:08

I popped ours on for a couple of hours on Wednesday. I already had my Oodie on!

We're in Scotland and it's now very obvious that the year is on the turn.

Where abouts are you? My friend told me is was 25 degrees in London today. So jealous!

Managed to get to first of November last year. Doubt it will be as mild throughout October this year though but will hold out as long as possible. I generally feel cold in winter if thermostat goes below 20.

The living room was really quite cold compared to the rest of the house. So might need to look at the windows to why that was the case. I’d popped the heating on and walked back in the living room and felt it was way colder than the other rooms
