Tested positive today - anyone else?

Tested positive this morning (Sunday) after negative test last night. I think I had it before a few months ago so am a bit annoyed to have it again.

Symptoms are feeling chesty, bit of a cough, painful mouth ulcers on back of tongue.

Anyone else along for the ride?

Tested positive yesterday morning.
Chills and sweats, sore throat, cough and feeling grim since Friday. Did sleep a bit better last night though.

Perfectlystill · 19/06/2022 10:36

Not sure how bad the current strain is. I have friends who caught it on holiday in the US last week and they all suffered terribly, but it may be a different one we have over here.

It's just so boring.

I've had it for week, still testing positive.

I have classic cold symptoms for me - headache, sore throat, cough. Not pleasant. I would expect a cold to be wearing off by now, but still going strong.

vanillasunshine · 19/06/2022 14:26

What is everyone doing about work? Not sure of the rules (if there are any) now...

electrongirl · 19/06/2022 16:14

I’ve had it for 5 days too - pain - managed to avoid it up till now - but got it just at the time my kids are doing a level and gcse exams - only a week to go on exams - I am isolating in the house but what do you reckon my chances of not giving it to them are? Bloody nightmare.

vanillasunshine · 19/06/2022 16:15

I've got a ds doing GCSEs too...not really isolating coz I have to get him to school as we are rural! Fingers crossed he can make it through till Thursday afternoon! Good luck

electrongirl · 19/06/2022 16:19

Aw I know - it’s hard isn’t it. Just got to keep them in for one more week of exams - it’s been a real slog for them too hasn’t it? The exam period has been so long!

catfunk · 19/06/2022 16:23

Yep. Finally caught it from DH after 6 days of trying to keep away but sharing kitchen bathroom etc.
Feels like a cold so far - swollen throat. Itchy in my ears, sore sinuses.
I'm lucky that I can wfh

I can wfh so will do that as long as I feel ok.

I feel sorry for those of you with exams going on. Terrible timing.

Yep tested positive this afternoon after going for a run, coming back and falling asleep for two hours.
Headache and lost appetite so far….

TENDTOprocrastinate · 20/06/2022 08:48

Yeah I tested positive yesterday. I first had a sore throat on Fri, then flu like symptoms from Saturday. Blocked nose, head ache, exhausted, cough. Weirdly I’m really thirsty.
I’m a teacher so I’ve not gone into work today. Im sure I’m rather contagious! DH has now got symptoms too, he’s wfh this week anyway because of the train strike.

Perfectlystill · 20/06/2022 09:38

I'm working my way through After Life and it's making me laugh.

But I feel a bit rough - chesty cough, headaches, awful mouth ulcers on the back of my tongue where I can't reach them.

Roll on the next few days!

Harpydragon · 20/06/2022 13:36

2nd time I've tested positive within 6 weeks. I was just getting over the last bout. I am exhausted, snotty, coughing and sore throat and chest, loss of appetite, headache, sore eyes, feel worse this time than I did last. I initially thought my hayfever had gone into overdrive!

Neverendingdust · 20/06/2022 13:43

Surely anyone who tests positive wouldn’t dream of going infecting others, right? Irrespective of the guidance would you want someone else to feel like crap on your behalf? That’s one of the ways this wave will grow.

The BA.5 variant is thought to be more severe for some people especially as many haven’t had a booster for a good while.

To those who are sick right now I hope you get better quickly!

scienceyesplease · 20/06/2022 13:46

Yep on the train. I'm on day 8 and starting to feel vaguely human with many naps. Appetite still gone but have found slimfast is helping to manage it for the time being.

TwilightSkies · 20/06/2022 14:55

I woke at 4am this morning feeling like I’d been hit by a bus. Tested negative (last test from an old box). DD17 went to chemist and got new box and I’ve tested positive on 2 tests.
Feels like a heavy cold. Felt shivery and achey this morning but that seems to have passed.

vanillasunshine · 20/06/2022 18:44

Day 3 for me - temperature mostly gone...feels like a heavy cold plus exhaustion/out of breath if I do anything!
Not been to work since Thursday...Friday I felt ill but tested negative. Saturday was first positive test.

yaboreme · 20/06/2022 19:20

Day 3 for me too - not at all like the 'it's just a cold, get on with it' I was expecting.

I've been shivery, hot, cold, unbelievable achy back legs and feet. At one point could barely stand. My old collar bone injury/ break has been painful on and off too which is wild!!

My throat feels like I'm swallowing glass and my sinuses are completely blocked/ painful.

The fatigue is bizarre for me, I literally just keep closing my eyes.

It's awful. Wishing everyone a super speedy recovery.

Perfectlystill · 20/06/2022 20:38

What is good to eat when you have it?

I have been making fruit smoothies and had an omelette for lunch but by the evening I've lost my appetite and certainly don't fancy the meat and two veg DH is doing for the children.

Tonight I had a piece of toast with butter and Marmite and a packet of Wotsits. But I would like to eat better as it must help.

I got DH to buy me some smoked mackerel so I might make pate tomorrow if I have the energy as that would be nice with nice bread and some tomatoes.

I have been drinking green tea, too, and always feel a lot better after that.

TheCatsPjammas · 20/06/2022 21:32

Finally it got me. Felt tired yesterday evening so sloped to bed early, came down with a temp, achey in the middle of the night. Feel v sorry for myself!
horrible taste in my mouth, still eating though. Stupidly thirsty. I had been feeling a bit smug avoiding it up until now… that’ll teach me.

Harpydragon · 21/06/2022 10:19

I'm on day 3 now, my face hurts so much my glasses are hurting me.
I've now lost my sense of taste and smell, I can kind of taste that something is sweet or salty, it's very weird!
I'm wheezing like a pair of old bellows and my back is killing me!

Honestly last time I had it, it was just like a cold, this goes way beyond that.

I've been taking high dose of vitamin c and d to see if that helps at all.

An completely exhausted, it's utterly rubbish

Perfectlystill · 21/06/2022 12:48

I'm day 3 and feeling a tiny bit better today, although I feel I'm tempting fate even admitting that.

I am still coughing when I speak, and the back of my throat/tongue feels RAW, and everything aches. But I have a little bit more energy today.

I made some smoked mackerel pate and a tomato salad with raw garlic for lunch which I hope will kill the germs.

And I managed to go downstairs and do my jigsaw for a bit. Back in bed now though, listening to my neighbour's builders drilling which is marvellously relaxing.

I'm relieved I can still taste food although I know it's still early days in day three.

Strength to all going through it. The only positive I can think of is hopefully we'll all have strong antibodies to stop us catching it in the summer holidays and ruining our plans.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 21/06/2022 12:53

Day 3 and zero energy here. Took a work call this morning then done sweet f.a since.
Everything tastes weird too!

worriedatthistime · 21/06/2022 13:27

For those of you who have just got it , how long do you think it took to get symptoms from contact if you know where you got it from that is ?
