Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

I don't wear it currently

TheChip · 17/01/2022 10:08

Yes, I will drop the mask as soon as I can. But I do think I will try and wear them if I do have a cold or something.

JasmineW88 · 17/01/2022 10:10

I will stop wearing mine as soon as I am allowed.

dowhattyougotttado · 17/01/2022 10:14

I won't be wearing one when I legally don't have to.

They make my skin problems flare up, I have anxiety and it makes my breathing worse, I can't be arsed making a effort with makeup because the mask smudges it all. I'm just sick of them.

I am double vaccinated and boostered, I do lateral flows when I've had contact with someone with the virus, and I'm a sensible person.

Everyone needs to take responsibility for their own health and weigh up the risks for their own situation. For me, I'm happy to not wear a mask and take my chances.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/01/2022 10:16

Yes, I will stop wearing them

I am not remotely anti mask but I don't go shopping as I hate them

BigGreyEagle · 17/01/2022 10:17

@SickAndTiredAgain

Yep, as soon as it stops being mandatory I’ll stop wearing mine. I didn’t wear it for the few months last year where it wasn’t required either.
This is what I will do/did.
byvirtue · 17/01/2022 10:18

I don’t wear one, they are vile. I’m happy to take continued exposure to covid than breathe through some claustrophobic piece of fabric.

Still haven’t caught covid…

Sundancerintherain · 17/01/2022 10:18

I live in a country with much stricter mask laws than the UK.
I will still be wearing mine in enclosed spaces after our laws relax, but will be happy to tale it off out in the fresh air.

Nope, i will continue to wear one

ClaudiaWankleman · 17/01/2022 10:20

I wear mine on and off now and will probably slowly transitioning to not wearing one at all. I don't enjoy wearing one and it puts me off doing some things I would otherwise have enjoyed.

rhowton · 17/01/2022 10:21

I'm not wearing one anymore, and I won't be in the future. I wore one in London religiously just before Christmas and still got COVID.

HesterShaw1 · 17/01/2022 10:21

I'll use my judgement. On an evening shop in a quiet supermarket probably not. In a small/crowded shop staffed by elderly/anxious people probably. On crowded bus, probably. If I have a cold, yes. Anywhere outside, most definitely not.

I've been getting awful panic attacks lately, with fast breathing, overheating and a galloping heart, and mask wearing has made this worse.

ClaudiaWankleman · 17/01/2022 10:22

except now I’ll probably have to wear an N95 due to all of the unmasked plebs. Ya selfish

Yes, your words don't at all suggest you have an over-inflated ego @Sunshinelover2

SeenYourArse · 17/01/2022 10:23

Me 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ Mine are all going in the bin the second I’m allowed to ditch them, I’ve had original Covid and Omicron and my vaccines 🙄😬 I’m super ready to burn them!

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2022 10:23

First places I’ll stop when it changes are the theatre, and outside school, pt I’ll wait and see what happens re London transport as we’ve had advice different to law. I will see what the numbers are like and decide, shops decide at time

HesterShaw1 · 17/01/2022 10:24

@Sunshinelover2

The way you’ve constructed your question is so to only elicit answers from those that agree with you.

Congratulations, feed that anti-masker ego.

I’ll keep wearing mine, except now I’ll probably have to wear an N95 due to all of the unmasked plebs. Ya selfish.

Ignoring the boring "selfish" part of your post, this was suggested on a thread recently and it's rather sensible. There's no point relying on incorrect mask wearing of the majority if you're anxious about getting Covid. So wear an effective one yourself 🤷‍♀️
GirlInACountrySong · 17/01/2022 10:25

plenty have ditched them already

theres no repercussions for not wearing them, its never been policed for the average person, just the few on public transport

not so much in Asda

You could always wear two? Perhaps an N95 AND a surgical and a full face visor too? You probably already wear surgical gloves anyway so won’t need to suggest those, probably even alone in your own car. Do take them off to sleep though you should be ‘safe’ in your bed.

Grin

The word selfish needs to be banned.

GirlInACountrySong · 17/01/2022 10:26

@Sunshinelover2 the masked plebs can do what they have to...

There is no legal requirement or even official requirement to wear one outside school! I’m not doing that again ever, it was absolute nonsense wearing one outside, distanced from everyone 🙄
AwaitingSueGraysInvestigation · 17/01/2022 10:28

I'll stop wearing them once they're no longer mandatory (or advised), yes.

I can wear one, so I do, but I find it exceptionally unpleasant and stressful, and have avoided a lot of situations where I'd otherwise have to wear one. If I want to rejoin any kind of life once this is over, for me personally, it means ditching the masks.

Comefromaway · 17/01/2022 10:29

I will probably continue to wear one in very crowded places but not elsewhere.

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2022 10:29

Seen it’s not a legal requirement you’re right but we have been asked and nearly everyone does atm.

Before plan b happened it had been dropped
