Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

Ooooh... 'narrow minded' ... another one for the list! Thanks Iggly Smile

Yes, I will stop. I stopped immediately last time. I work in the NHS though and have to suffer through them all day, every day at work. I don't even want to consider if we are forced to wear them forever more. I'm in the community looking after healthy women for the most, so it feels highly unnecessary.

Angel2702 · 17/01/2022 09:39

No unless cases drop considerably or isolation is not required I will still try to avoid having to isolate.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/01/2022 09:40

We’ll continue on transport and in enclosed spaces because it suits our personal circumstances.

TheMerrickBoy · 17/01/2022 09:41

Yes, I'll stop anywhere it doesn't seem as though I'd be rude or an outlier for not wearing one.
The argument I have least time for is that it's been nice not having colds for two years and we should keep it up.

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2022 09:41

I'll keep mine on in shops and public transport/crowded places. Everyone else can do what they like.

I look forward to the day that there's not endless threads about mask wearing though. Although they're good for a spot on MN covid bingo. Anyone said 'face nappy' yet? Grin

LumosSolem · 17/01/2022 09:42

@Iggly

This thread just demonstrates how narrow minded people can be.

I will wear one on public transport as when I’m commuting I tend to not want to sniff and snivel over everyone when I’ve got a cold.

Has it really been that bad having public health measures in place?

Why is it narrow minded to stop wearing a mask when it has been deemed they are no longer necessary enough to require legal mandates to do so?

Did you expect everyone to wear masks every winter to prevent flu prior to covid?

Oh and btw our immune systems will be fucked if we all mask up every time we have the slightest cold in the future- it's ridiculous to suggest that for most people it is possible or even desirable to avoid catching normal colds.

Sheabutterisdelish · 17/01/2022 09:42

Dropping as soon as poss. Ditched those bloody anti bac bottles about a year ago ...

ThisMustBeMyDream · 17/01/2022 09:42

Yes @Iggly, it has. I don't much like acne, but I've been forced to have painful spots for 2 years now. I'm now awaiting a dermatology appt for roccutane as the GP can do no more.

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2022 09:42

I’m not sure yet. I’ll see how it is when it changes

When numbers wearing them were really low in 2020 pre mandate I think I did sometimes but hard to remember

PartyOnKale · 17/01/2022 09:43

In a ten minute wander round the shops yes.

In the doctors' waiting room maybe not.

Nidan2Sandan · 17/01/2022 09:43

I wont wear masks, I rarely wear them now as my asthma is too brittle to cope with them.

Narutocrazyfox · 17/01/2022 09:43

It's weird, I thought I'd happily fling my mask at the earliest opportunity, but now we're approaching that time, I'm not sure I will - I quite like wearing a mask, I'm not even entirely sure why! 😂 Security, comfort... I really don't know. However I'm sure I won't feel the same in the boiling summer months!

TheMerrickBoy · 17/01/2022 09:43

And antibac can absolutely fuck off.

RobinPenguins · 17/01/2022 09:44

I’d pretty much stopped wearing one this summer so will probably drift back to that once the requirement is dropped.

Stuffin · 17/01/2022 09:44

Can't wait to ditch them.

Me too. Until this pandemic is definitely under control, my mask will stay on.
Postchristmasflab · 17/01/2022 09:44

I think lots of people will be earring masks in certain places for years to come, like lots of other countries already do.

I will probably wear one if I have a cold etc and need to use public transport in the future, they also keep my face warm 😂

Nidan2Sandan · 17/01/2022 09:46

I would suggest if you are sniffing and snivelling over strangers your issue isnt the mask, but rather your ability to appropriately use a tissue. Wink

Same here, it is after all a pretty concise list of places.

LumosSolem · 17/01/2022 09:47

I've actually noticed that every cold I have had during the pandemic has been really horrible and a couple have required time off work, whereas before I would get much more minor sniffles. I'm convinced that all the lockdowns/mask wearing have been bad for our immunity and health in other ways. So as soon as we can live more normally and ditch masks it will actually be better for our immune systems!

TheMerrickBoy · 17/01/2022 09:47

I think I'll be more likely to use public transport again once I don't have to wear a mask on it!

Kshhuxnxk · 17/01/2022 09:48

I don't mind the face covering too much but once it isn't mandatory I will definitely ditch it. I'm in Scotland so we've always had to wear them
NS would have us wearing them in our bed if she could.

Dishhh · 17/01/2022 09:48

So ... the only answer is 'yes'?

I'll wear a mask until the pandemic is more or less over as I'm CEV.

Stripyhoglets · 17/01/2022 09:48

No. I'll keep wearing them in crowded places. They've been useful in helping avoid bugs in general and although that might not be the case when other people stop wearing them so much - i stoll feel they must help when sat on a crowded train.
