Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

Outside nursery for drop off and pick up is very silly, but I still wear the mask as it’s onsite at my workplace and subject to the same rules as the rest of the site

polar81 · 17/01/2022 10:30

Adding 'anti-masker' and 'unmasked plebs' to the bingo card! I completely agree that if people can wear N95 / FFP3 masks to protect themselves than that is a great option. Surely, it's much better to be in control of protecting yourself, rather than relying on 'unmasked plebs' to do so.

No. I imagine the mandate will be dropped next week so Johnson can deflect more attention off his binfire leadership. But I'll keep wearing until cases are much, much lower.

HereticFanjo · 17/01/2022 10:33

Nope. Wearing them in crowded indoor spaces while cases are high is a no brainer really.

Hope90x · 17/01/2022 10:34

Me - I personally don't wear one except when in work (requirement). I think they are entirely pointless but do understand that they make people feel safe.

NotQuiteUsual · 17/01/2022 10:35

I cannot wait to bin my masks forever. I do like the extra layer in the cold and I will keep disposables for when I have a cough or cold and am off to a cramped place, or if my skin is awful and I can with covering it up. But I hate wearing them, I hate my daughter with a speech delay not being able to see my mouth movements in public. I hate the blackheads I get on my cheeks. I hate how dizzy they make me feel in warm places. I hate how awkward they are to hang on the clothes airer. I hate not seeing people's faces properly.

I hate the pandemic and masks are a big visual reminder of it.

HereticFanjo · 17/01/2022 10:35

And the mad dash to ditch everything is Boris 'let the bodies pile high' Johnson choosing to sacrifice a thousand or so plebs to cling on to office. NB: We're all plebs in his book, regardless of our stance on masks.

Buzzinwithbez · 17/01/2022 10:36

I don't wear one anyway, but I will go to more places again.

7Worfs · 17/01/2022 10:37

I’ve stopped wearing masks altogether.

Also, posters from other countries saying stuff like “when our mask laws relax”… cute, they still believe their totalitarian governments will give them back basic body autonomy Grin

Bummocks123 · 17/01/2022 10:39

I would say that if you are still wearing a mask now you are less anti-mask than you think you are. It's barely law, I know quite a few people who just don't bother with it now and they never get challenged.

I'll probably keep wearing one in busy superstores, public transport etc. Personally, I'm in the habit and not particularly bothered by it so don't see a reason to stop to be honest!

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 17/01/2022 10:40

I haven't worn one for a while as they cause me terrible acne, painful boils and a really itchy rash.

Where I live many people seem to have ditched them already.

They're ghastly things.

Legoninjago1 · 17/01/2022 10:41

Can't wait to ditch them and can't wait til I no longer have to see them discarded all over the place. Will however happily one if I'm specifically asked to do so by any individual or venue.

womaninatightspot · 17/01/2022 10:44

I really think it depends on your lifestyle, I won't be wearing one but I don't use public transport, shop online and my job isn't customer facing. The only time I do wear one is when I have to nip into the school playground to collect the children. Often I stand at the fence and wave as it's been forgotten in the car.

I might be more inclined to wear one if I was in contact with more disgusting germ factories people

TinaYouFatLard · 17/01/2022 10:45

Unmasked pleb and proud of it.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/01/2022 10:45

No, still have to wear one at work.

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 17/01/2022 10:48

@womaninatightspot Does the school require you to wear one in the playground?

Our schools scrapped that a while ago now - you only have to wear one if you enter the building.

99victoria · 17/01/2022 10:51

I will. I am having terrible menopause hot flushes several times a day and if I have one when I am wearing a mask it is quite overwhelming. I had to actually sit on the aisle floor in Sainsbury the first time it happened- several people came to see if I was OK. I had sweat dropping off my face!
I've had a couple of not so extreme incidents since but have mainly dealt with it by sending my OH shopping. However, it is a constant source of low level anxiety for me that it will happen again in a situation I can't get out of. It will be a relief for me when I no longer have to wear a mask

womaninatightspot · 17/01/2022 10:52

@TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits

They do, we're in Scotland so rules may be different here. Or they might just be making them up and hoping everyone complies.

ilovesooty · 17/01/2022 10:55

I suspect that quite a few venues and settings will be asking the public to wear them for a while yet.

Mulhollandmagoo · 17/01/2022 10:56

I will make a judgement for each situation, based on various factors

This is my stance, if I'm in a crowded indoor place I might pop one on, but when I am not around anyone at all I wont. I work nights and left work at 7am one morning last week and went straight to a large shopping centre, I think I was about the only person there when I first arrived and walking around a huge shopping centre where there were no other people wearing a mask seemed a bit daft!

ReeseWitherfork · 17/01/2022 10:56

As one of the people on the thread to say I appreciated the mask with the cold weather... In answer to all the people asking if I'd ever considered wearing a scarf over my face before... Of course I bloody did. There's significantly less going on with a scarf so I actually prefer the mask. Having something covering my face without having it wrapped round my neck is great for me. Love that it's socially acceptable to wear masks! The people wearing scarves over their faces are still wearing a face covering, which was the legal requirement anyway AFAIK.

thewhatsit · 17/01/2022 11:06

There is no legal requirement or even official requirement to wear one outside school! I’m not doing that again ever, it was absolute nonsense wearing one outside, distanced from everyone 🙄

I guess it depends, I put mine on when I enter school premises (even though outside) because they’ve asked us too. I remove once I’ve stepped off their land.
Our school removed the mask request for a few months at the beginning of last term do I am confident it won’t be forever.

I do appreciate that a lot of it is theatre (am I really a risk outside in the playgroup? When my child is then in a classroom without their mask?) but I’m happy to play along with it if it means we can all pretend that we’re putting measures in place to keep schools open. The theatre of on/off/on/off masks in a pub I could never get behind (and if you are really that worried is a pub the place for you? .. which is quite different to schools isn’t it?).

Mulhollandmagoo · 17/01/2022 11:06

I think all this 'guidance' has made people unable to apply common sense to a situation now.

Yes I do it more because I really like the pre school and people who work there are great, so a small thing to just go along with it until it drops.

Agree re pubs too though I don’t think you have to now but I don’t.

No, why on Earth would I?
