Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

I don't love wearing a mask.

That said, I also don't want to catch Covid, nor spread Covid.

So even if the mandate to wear masks was dropped, I would still continue to wear masks in crowded places. Not necessarily everywhere as I currently do, but anywhere that I think that wearing one will help to stop the spread of Covid.

Marmelace · 17/01/2022 09:51

Honestly I've done everything I'm supposed to do, triple jabbed, stayed at home, isolated, worn masks etc. I'm vulnerable, have
3 chronics. But I still caught it. It was rough going, but not life threatening. I can't wait to ditch masks, hate the bloody things and have no problem with others doing the same.

DaisyWaldron · 17/01/2022 09:51

Definitely not until the weather's warmer - the more layers the better right now.

Seriously, though, there's no point in saying that you want to gauge how many people share your opinion, and then specifying that those with other opinions shouldn't post them here. That's fine if you want to have a thread for people to be happy and excited at the thought of not wearing masks, or sad at the thought of wearing them, but not if you want to actually know how most people feel.

polar81 · 17/01/2022 09:51

Well there's also 'no' Dishhh Grin

Can't wait to ditch mine and will do the second the mandate is lifted.

Deux · 17/01/2022 09:52

I’ll be ditching masks as soon as they’re no longer a legal requirement. I’ll happily wear one in any kind of medical setting.

I have to wear them at work and just so fed up of them as where I am they’re on then off then on again all day. Actually wearing them the whole time would be better.

On a vain note, I’d quite like to wear lipstick again.

See here's me thinking I would, then reading this and thinking well maybe not now.

No, might wear one on public transport every winter from now on. People are generally disgusting with their germs there anyway. I mostly wear FFP2 grade masks so they actually protect me, though.

Xiaoxiong · 17/01/2022 09:53

In future I'll only wear one when legally required or if I have a cold myself out of courtesy, I can't imagine walking around with a streaming cold ever again without one. But that's it.

epcot15 · 17/01/2022 09:54

@Iggly

This thread just demonstrates how narrow minded people can be.

I will wear one on public transport as when I’m commuting I tend to not want to sniff and snivel over everyone when I’ve got a cold.

Has it really been that bad having public health measures in place?

So I assume you wore one pre March 2020 on public transport so you didn't 'sniff and snivel over everyone when I’ve got a cold' and if you didn't why were you so selfish? You could've passed anything on to a cev person.
Lazypuppy · 17/01/2022 09:55

100%, i stopped instantly the last time. Tje fabric masks don't really do much anyway. i don't always wear one now, and i see a lot more people not wearing them

Kitkat151 · 17/01/2022 09:57

@teenagetantrums

Yes. I actually hardly ever wear one anyway. Most people round here seem to have given up wearing them to be honest.
It’s like that where I am.....apart from hospitals....not may people wear masks theses days
RichTeaRichTea · 17/01/2022 09:58

Yes i will stop wearing it in most places - I will still have to wear one for work I expect but I find wrangling two toddlers whilst wearing a mask very difficult (yes I know, I’m selfish, feeble, wouldn’t have coped in WW2 blah blah) so won’t for indoor activities with them.

friendlycat · 17/01/2022 09:58

I'll continue to wear one in shops and on public transport.

Angrymum22 · 17/01/2022 09:59

Me, I wear one all day in clinical setting. There I can change it regularly, use it as it as it should be used, as a barrier to funds and debris . They have never been and never will be an effective barrier to viruses so I won’t be sorry to see them go.

RichTeaRichTea · 17/01/2022 09:59

I don’t know why people who find the mask keeps their face warm hadn’t thought of wearing neck buffs before covid. Did you just suffer with a cold face, not realising that there was something that could put on it to keep you warm?

Pellewsmate · 17/01/2022 10:01

I will miss my mask, I love not having to religiously check for the odd chin hair.

RedCandyApple · 17/01/2022 10:03

I’ve already stopped, no one where I live wears them and no one asks or cares

RedCandyApple · 17/01/2022 10:03

Mind you I’ve never actually wore one so I haven’t stopped I just haven’t started!

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 17/01/2022 10:04

Yes because I can’t seem to find a mask that doesn’t give me contact dermatitis. My whole face is a complete mess despite shit loads of steroid creams being prescribed. I try not to even look in the mirror anymore Sad

Clarefromwork · 17/01/2022 10:04

I can’t wait till we don’t have to wear masks!
I find it hard to believe that unless we all wore a medical grade mask including a new one every time we had to touch it to take it off (going into different shops etc) it stops the spread of a virus. Most people reuse the masks without washing them, touch their mask to put it on and then touch things in the shops etc.
I always felt the wearing mask advise is more an easy tick box to make the government look like they are doing something and fits in with the “protecting others” narrative.

DynamiteFilledRadish · 17/01/2022 10:05

I've already ditched mine.

Viviennemary · 17/01/2022 10:06

Me. But I dont usually go into crowded places. I've stopped wearing mine in uncrowded supermarkets. But wear it in small shops for a short while then have to come out.

DynamiteFilledRadish · 17/01/2022 10:06

I said this ages ago Grin It's such BS!

"I'll be keeping mine as it keeps my face warm". Really Janet? You hadn't heard of scarves or snoods before? Give over.

Trytowin20 · 17/01/2022 10:07

Me! the fucking things can be burnt! I can barely get round Asda in one so no public transport, cinemas, theatres, children's events for me until the things are no longer mandatory. Unfortunately most stay and plays round here though exempt are doing it to please other people so I wonder how many will still insist? I hope not 🥺

Made to labour in the fucking thing until established. Unable to breath properly with no partner to advocate for me meant I had to have painful investigation for the lack of oxygen. All this after a negative PCR (I had it before I went in as per hospital rules). Cruel, cruel and pointless rules!

I'd be happy to wear one for close contact work like blood tests/ injections/ eye tests as they can't exactly get away from my face. Even a docs appointment as long as I can peg it out the door asap but generally?nope nope nope
