Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

I don't wear them anyway, they make me feel sick and lightheaded

SickAndTiredAgain · 17/01/2022 09:28

Yep, as soon as it stops being mandatory I’ll stop wearing mine. I didn’t wear it for the few months last year where it wasn’t required either.

helpfulperson · 17/01/2022 09:28

Nope I'll keep wearing them.

No!

You will get loads saying yes but you aren’t going to get an accurate representation.

JollyAndBright · 17/01/2022 09:29

I will keep wearing them too.

polar81 · 17/01/2022 09:29

Also meant to add- 'Only Brits complain about wearing masks', 'I live in [insert any country] and we not only wear them, we love it too!' Grin

Yes. I actually hardly ever wear one anyway. Most people round here seem to have given up wearing them to be honest.

ReeseWitherfork · 17/01/2022 09:30

They're pretty great in this cold weather, so probably depends when that'll be. I am a total control freak, so although I'm not covid-anxious, I feel like wearing a mask is one of the few things I can do to control my exposure when I'm in a public place. Between masks and a bit of antibac, anyway.

IShouldProbablyHooverMore · 17/01/2022 09:30

Yep, me.

user1471443411 · 17/01/2022 09:31

Yes I will, I did when the mask mandate was dropped last summer, except for work where we still had to. Have had to wear for work all the way through and it is awful, I can't wait til they are scrapped everywhere.

I will stop as soon as it’s legal.

PenStation · 17/01/2022 09:32

I will do as many Asian countries do and wear one in a confined space if I have a respiratory virus to protect co workers and others. Otherwise they are gone.

WaystarRoycoCEO · 17/01/2022 09:32

Me, I hate wearing them.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/01/2022 09:33

No, I will keep wearing them like I did last time it stopped.

polar81 · 17/01/2022 09:33

Thanks for the biscuits! At least I can happily eat one with my mask off Wink

Yes you'll get loads of people saying two year olds in their country wear them all day for school with no complaints.

polar81 · 17/01/2022 09:35

Oh yes user... I forgot that one!

I won't continue to wear one when not legally required to as I don't like wearing them. I've worn them whenever they've been mandated to and it doesn't bother me that much but I find they make me feel really quite unwell if I'm wearing them when im getting hot and moving around lots.

Took my DC round a busy tourist indoor attraction on Saturday and had to wear a mask in a warm, fairly busy, dark indoor area. Wearing my outdoor coat and the mask too made me feel like I couldn't breathe properly and I felt so dehydrated and headachey after. Oh and they give me spots if I wear them a lot too. So will definitely stop as soon as we don't have to.

thewhatsit · 17/01/2022 09:37

I’m going to do what I did last time (ie late summer / autumn 2021) - I stopped wearing it a lot of places but some places it still seemed appropriate to keep wearing because the majority of other people were.

I actually think the mask mandate is much narrower now than last time isn’t it? So not required at all in restaurants and pubs. No one whatsoever wears one at our gym / pool in the communal areas or reception also for instance. It’s pretty much shops I think..? I don’t spend much time in shops anyway but I do wear on public transport (however, as we live in London that requirement was never dropped).

I’m finding the mask thing way less onerous this time. No putting on / taking off every time you get up from a table for instance.

Aposterhasnoname · 17/01/2022 09:37

Me, I’ll be having a massive bonfire of masks, with hand sanitiser fuelling it, the very second it’s allowed.

LumosSolem · 17/01/2022 09:37

How can anyone think this is a good thing?! 😂
Iggly · 17/01/2022 09:37

This thread just demonstrates how narrow minded people can be.

I will wear one on public transport as when I’m commuting I tend to not want to sniff and snivel over everyone when I’ve got a cold.

Has it really been that bad having public health measures in place?

Mischance · 17/01/2022 09:37

I will make a judgement for each situation, based on various factors: how close I am to others indoors, what the prevalence is of the virus in that area, what the activity is (e.g. singing is more high risk for spread), my own state of health at the time etc.
