Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

I stopped wearing one many months ago op - join me and be happy!

JS87 · 17/01/2022 11:17

I read they are planning to keep masks when the drop the rest of plan b

madmomma · 17/01/2022 11:20

Can't wait to ditch them and smile at babies again!!! 💓

TheNoonBell · 17/01/2022 11:21

I stopped following the rules in September when the House decided it was not minded to vote on the extension of the Coronavirus Act.

Since my MP was denied a vote on it, I don't feel minded to comply.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 17/01/2022 11:22

I’ll keep wearing them. I’ve had far fewer colds and other sniffles since I started wearing them in March 2020 (and before if I’m honest) as any virus that causes congestion is a real ball ache as I have trigeminal neuralgia & easily triggers an attack (I’ve worn masks & used mouth covering scarves in cold weather to prevent an attack for years).

SirSamuelVimes · 17/01/2022 11:41

Yes, can't wait! Already only wear if absolutely have to (i e. where it is a legal requirement, not just a request).

Cannot bloody stand the things.

GettingItOutThere · 17/01/2022 11:42

i will be wearing one indoors/busy indoor spaces but not outside - never have either and i dont get why people do?

i think its polite with colds and flu now to wear one even normal flu

ilovesooty · 17/01/2022 11:42

I shall continue to wear one until spring at least in shops, on public transport and in crowded places, and obviously in medical settings and other places requesting it. I don't use public transport much but would avoid sitting near an unmasked person if possible at this time of year.

I think they'll be required for the foreseeable future in airports and on flights.

I think I've also read that masks will continue when Plan B is removed.

ilovesooty · 17/01/2022 11:43

I certainly won't be wearing one outside!

AgentCarterRocks · 17/01/2022 11:44

I don't enjoy wearing a mask, especially for extended periods, but I was infectious before I was symptomatic so hopefully the fact I wore a mask at work has protected my colleagues from Covid.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 17/01/2022 11:47

@polar81

Also meant to add- 'Only Brits complain about wearing masks', 'I live in [insert any country] and we not only wear them, we love it too!' Grin
"I am a smug ex-pat and like to come onto MN to make sure everyone knows how smug I am that I had the opportunity to leave Brexit Island and live elsewhere where I have to convince myself that EVERYTHING is better, especially the pointless outside mask wearing"

I will continue to wear masks OP - at least in public transport and where the business concerned wants me to eg hairdresser and dentist.

sheeplikessleep · 17/01/2022 11:51

Love the angle of ‘let’s work out how many want to get rid of masks, but don’t post if you want to keep wearing a mask’

littlepeas · 17/01/2022 11:57

Yes, I will stop wearing one as soon as there’s no legal requirement. Tbh it isn’t even the legal requirement that compels me to wear a mask, it’s the risk of being shouted at by strangers in the street. Quite happy to be considered a pleb - I despise masks and the evidence that they do much to help is extremely patchy.

7Worfs · 17/01/2022 12:01

Just ditch them and walk proud. I even walked into my GP without a mask last week. Never put one in shops, trains or tube.

HotHointheavo · 17/01/2022 12:02

Mine will be gone!!!!!

As a glasses wearer it has been horrendous. I literally cant see anything when I shop!

Chureghy · 17/01/2022 12:03

Can't wait until the pointless virtue signalling wastes of time are consigned the bin. They're a hideous waste of money and a massive burden on the environment.

Flowertailbird · 17/01/2022 12:05

Yes. Will stop wearing as soon as we are not required to.

LadyPenelope68 · 17/01/2022 12:05

Yet another goady thread. round of applause for your twatish behaviour

ilovesooty · 17/01/2022 12:05

My GP would have insisted on you walking straight out again until the doctor was ready to see you.
elelel · 17/01/2022 12:06

I can't wait for everyone to stop wearing masks - I'm autistic and they are such a barrier to communication for me.

doadeer · 17/01/2022 12:07

Nope will keep wearing if close to others. I don't find it arduous and it could help protect the spread. No reason not to for me.

WorkEvent · 17/01/2022 12:11

I’m sick of the blackheads on my cheeks, struggling to hear/understand people (turns out I lip read a lot as I can’t filter background noise), and suddenly getting hot and dizzy.

Probably going to have to wear one for work forever though (nhs) 😒

7Worfs · 17/01/2022 12:12

Medical exemption, bitches!
Even GPs can’t discriminate patients Wink

I feel people have completely forgotten we have rights.

MagentaRocks · 17/01/2022 12:13

I will wear one in shops but not for social events like a meal in the pub. To my mind, going out socially is a choice, and people can make the decision what is best for them. Shopping is different, people need food and essentials so I think it would be the right thing to do.

I was surprised when there was no mask mandate how many people didn’t wear them in shops.

I can’t wait to ditch the lanyard.
