The unvaccinated

Xmasprrssiehelp · 29/12/2021 23:34

I am genuinely worried about unvaccinated people.

I live in a large northern city. In my naice area 93% of people aged 12+ have have had the first dose of vaccine, 86% the second dose and 74% on boosters.

The areas where there is the least vaccine uptake in my city, is in poorer area's where 33% have the vaccine, these are areas where overall health is poor, education is poor and general outcomes are poor. Despite covid.

I don’t want to start a class war with covid, but it’s really getting hard to ignore that we need to find a way to stop conspiracy theories on Facebook and the like actually targeting people who might not be educated enough to understand what they are reading/seeing.

I say all of this and being gentle.

This will go well

XenoBitch · 29/12/2021 23:41

YABU and you know it. A thread called "The Unvaccinated"... like people who have not had the vaccine are the theme and threat of some zombie flick.
Have a pack of Biscuit

Pensieve · 29/12/2021 23:41

Well if you find a way to stop fake news/misinformation on FB you’ve solved more than the great unvaccinated question.

Cocoabutterformula · 29/12/2021 23:42

Naice, gentle, genuine? Dear feck

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 29/12/2021 23:42

I was thinking 'it's their choice' but actually, I agree you are right to be worried, as they will carry it on for all of us.

I could get into a hugely subjective guessing game about the reasons for it, so I won't as it'll be unfair. Hopefully they won't pay for their skepticism with their lives Sad

WomanStanleyWoman · 29/12/2021 23:43

Just make sure you avoid the common areas. Even before you consider covid, you might have to meet the kind of people who shop at Poundland, and nobody wants that.

ShinyHappyPoster · 29/12/2021 23:45

Yeah people who are concerned about marginalised groups usually start threads on social media; 'other' them; blame them for rising Covid figures when a fucking incompetent Tory government is right there Hmm

People who actually care about marginalised groups get off their arse to make their lives better. They don't complain about them on MN.

revill · 29/12/2021 23:47

I am genuinely worried about unvaccinated people.

I'm pretty sure a proportion of The Unvaccinated are equally worried about you dear.

The Pandemic isn't over yet.

JadeandGreen · 29/12/2021 23:48

Waste of time getting vaccinated if you are now unable to get the booster for whatever reason! 90% of people in hospital are vaccinated, so basically in the same position as "the unvaccinated" How does that sit on the moral highground I wonder?

Tittyfilarious81 · 29/12/2021 23:49
Hmm
Pensieve · 29/12/2021 23:50

Oh god, here we go with the fake/misinterpreted stats. Good luck with that eradicating fake news on FB project OP. I’m off.

WheelOnTheBus · 29/12/2021 23:50

I’ve had my initial two jabs and the booster. I accept other people, however misguided, might chose not to. It doesn’t worry me, it’s their choice and they can deal with the repercussions if and when they happen.

gogohm · 29/12/2021 23:51

I do worry about those who are misinformed and thus at increased vulnerability to covid due to refusing the vaccine. I worry about the kids that are potentially going to loose a parent because of this refusal to engage with modern medicine and I'm concerned about the peoples whose operations are being postponed due to unvaccinated people spending longer in hospital if they get covid. I don't have answers, except we need to get trusted people to engage with residents in these areas because government messages aren't working.

My area has 98% vaccination in over 18's Birmingham had 35% in one wardConfused

LittleRoundRobin · 29/12/2021 23:51

@Xmasprrssiehelp You lost me at NAICE. So naff.

Also grabs popcorn......

DaisyNGO · 29/12/2021 23:53

@Cocoabutterformula

Indeed

Gird yourself OP
The most vehement anti vaxxer I know has....wait for it....a Master's Degree! And she earns good money too.

But you want to create war on several fronts, it seems. Knock yourself out.

LittleRoundRobin · 29/12/2021 23:53

@Xmasprrssiehelp How amusing too, that you claim you're worrying about the unvaccinated, when all it is, is a dig at the poor. Pathetic.

1/10

thepeopleversuswork · 29/12/2021 23:53

I agree with you OP. Nothing to do with "naice" areas its about ignorance and poor education.

The levels of ignorance on display on some of these chat threads have chilled me to the marrow. A woman posted on a thread yesterday that the risk of dying from the vaccine was equivalent to the risk of dying from COVID.

I understand the concern about vaccine passports etc and to some extent some of the hesitancy from people who just don't know any better. But the out and out nonsense that's talked needs to stop. We need to stop pandering to the frightening stupidity of the people who "do their own research" and giving it equivalence to the opinions of highly trained scientists. I thought for a long time that common sense would put a stop to this but it's gone too far. I think people who peddle out and out lies about the vaccine and its risks need to be removed from MN for starters.

PineappleMojito · 29/12/2021 23:57

Oh go away with this divisive shite, calling people “the unvaccinated”. I’m vaccinated and I’ve had enough of hearing it. People need to learn to mind their own business and respect others’ medical autonomy. Yes, even when it seems like a stupid decision to you.

This is classist, divisive bollocks dressed up as concern and I’m not here for it.

snapsieplopp · 29/12/2021 23:58

@Xmasprrssiehelp why do you think they are so resistant particularly as they may be more at risk as you said overall health was poor?

snapsieplopp · 29/12/2021 23:58

@ShinyHappyPoster indeed!

CMZ2018 · 29/12/2021 23:59

Leave them to it

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 29/12/2021 23:59

FFS - not only are those who have exercised the right not to have a vaccination being treated as some sort of subhuman, unclean underclass, but now they are being villified for being poor and not living in your 'naice, genteel' area and for having the temerity to allow themselves to be 'brainwashed' by conspiracy theories on Facebook!
You feign 'genuine worry' - what you mean is 'thank the Lord I am not one of these Plebs'!

The issue is a lack of trust

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/12/2021 00:02

Why is it whenever anyone has a different viewpoint they are automatically classed by a lot of people as uneducated? You don't do yourselves any favours with that attitude. If I was wanting you to persuade me your point of view was correct I would not be encouraged to take any notice if you had already categorised me as uneducated, poor, a believer in conspiracy theories or any other derogatory terms you can think of.
