Household mixing and large social gatherings with close contact seems to be the number 1 way of spreading this virus. It makes sense.

Stopsnowing · 21/10/2021 07:21

It is disgraceful.

If the govt had kept low level measures like masks indoors and had rolled out the school vaccine program quicker we would not be in this situation. At my work were are being heavily pressured to come in although it is completely not necessary.
Everyone I know who is eligible for the booster has had it and I am not eligible til December.
It is outrageous that the govt is trying to blame people for the mess it made.
And for those who think the Mail is just a rag leaking stuff to the tabloids and seeing how the public react before then going on to do something is exactly how this government works.

Quartz2208 · 21/10/2021 07:22

@Dishhh it is also being reported on Good Morning Britain. It is EXACTLY how this Government works. Leak out news from an unnamed sourced designed both to check out how popular it is (must not harm the popularity) and to prime us for Plan B coming.

Because quite why Plan B isnt implemented now is madness. You shouldnt need to go from Plan A to Plan C at all.

I dont think it will be banned just gently suggested to limit and think about social distancing. The problem is we are just too far down it now.

I agree though step up vaccinations and get household contacts self isolating again

Cam77 · 21/10/2021 07:23

Hang on. This is scare-mongering at its finest. I would have expected better from you.If you READ past the headline, you'll see it's based on nothing but a "source"

Governments often dripfeed info to the public through an “anonymous source”. Its common practice. Sometimes with the specific reaction of gauging public reaction to it.

RobinPenguins · 21/10/2021 07:25

Yep, not doing that again. No fucking way. The NHS is screwed, it’s not particularly because of covid. There could be zero covid cases and we’d be seeing the usual winter crisis due to flu and backlog from lockdowns.

Rainbowunicorn76 · 21/10/2021 07:26

Up until now I have complied absolutely with everything. I'm not anxious about the virus at all but I'm a rule follower.
I work in a SEND school, yesterday a child spat directly in my face four times. This is not unusual. I won't be doing this during the day then going home and sitting on my own until morning because Boris says so.
I will be careful and keep my social contacts low and safe but I won't comply with a complete lack of household mixing.
I suspect most people will be doing the same, many did last time!

WrapAroundYourDreams · 21/10/2021 07:28

I dont particularly care if I have to wear a mask.

I can't bear the thought of our office being closed again. Having the option to go in makes a real difference to my mental health. I started my job from home just over a year ago which was awful. I've recently had a promotion and I'm going through all the stress of trying to learn remotely again, I hate it.

I can't cope if schools close again. Our DC are entitled to a proper education, not the shit show the past 18 months has been.

Can't see them closing pubs, shops etc. Tories won't want to trash the economy any more and they know peoples patience is worn thin.

Good luck with getting people to comply with not seeing family and friends yet again. I definitely wouldn't comply with this.

I'm early 30s, double jabbed. Everyone vulnerable has been double jabbed and being given boosters. IMO we can't do any more than that, nor should have to.

The generational inequality in this country has been widening for a long time and the pandemic has made it worse. I might be more inclined to comply with restrictions if more was done to help younger people and resolve the issues that affect them. But that won't happen, and nor will I comply any longer.

Except that humans wanting actual contact with each other is such a basic instinct, repeatedly expecting them to not have contact is unrealistic.

I definitely will not be complying with it. No chance.

Practicebeingpatient · 21/10/2021 07:31

We obeyed all the rules through the last lockdowns. It's only now it's over that I realise how badly they impacted my mental health.

The family gathering we hope to have at a Christmas will be all adult. We are all double vaxxed and the older ones will have had their boosters by then. One works in a school, another in a hospital, most are commuting regularly on public transport. Given the degree of risk to exposure they are facing every working day it's going to be very hard to justify cancelling a Christmas dinner for 10 in a private home.

Come off it! It is school children who mix in close contact and unvaccinated, 11 million of them! If it is still not obvious by now then I don't know what else. The government were late to start vaccinating 12-15 and the booster for other age groups is also behind. We've all been just getting on with it as has been asked.
IncessantNameChanger · 21/10/2021 07:33

I think that's going to be hard to implement and not much tolerance from.the public to comply.

I'm not sure wht we arent back at masks and distancing. I have to be honest I'm not going to stop seeing friends all the time I can stand knee deep in people one foot away in the shops with no mask. It would be a pointless hollow gesture.

Like me wearing my mask in the shops while dh next me doesn't.

Completely agree. Would absolutely not comply with any nonsense like this. In any case would not make sense to do it unless schools also closed, which would mean working parents not able to go to work/ie all the infrastructure workers so a non-starter

Maybe, apart from the fact there’d still be loads of household mixing in schools.

And stopping household mixing isn’t a “free” option. How many tables in a restaurant have people from more than one house - I’d bet it’s a fairly high percentage (of course some of those people would lie and say they are from the same household, but plenty of people wouldn’t, and larger groups couldn’t if they wanted to). So restaurants would need some sort of financial help, same for pubs. You’d have to completely close nightclubs again, they can’t get away with stickers on the floor and a policy of “only come with members of your household and stay 2m away from anyone else.” so they’d also need financial support of some kind.
So what would they do, reintroduce furlough for those sectors most affected?

Tigerblue · 21/10/2021 07:40

We really need to find a balance to keeping numbers under control right now, not leaving it 7-10 days before plan B and everyone having the worry/stress of not knowing if we're end up with plan C - and in the meantime many people feeling ill, increased hospital numbers, work places struggling due to lack of staff. I suspect plan B would only help to a certain extent, but better than nothing and to nip numbers in the bud.

Heatherjayne1972 · 21/10/2021 07:40

Highly doubt the public will comply tbh
So many people struggled with not mixing households in the last 18 months I don’t think there’s the will for it

PurpleOkapi · 21/10/2021 07:40

We obeyed all the rules through the last lockdowns.

Yep. Everyone listened the first time. Most people listened the second, and even the third. And yet, here we all are. It's almost like this approach ... gasp! ... isn't working.

But even if it were true that we wouldn't be here if people listened in the first place, so what? What does that change? If the problem is caused by people not listening to lockdown rules, what kind of idiot would expect enacting more lockdown rules for people to not listen to would solve it?

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 21/10/2021 07:42

I know all these silly phrases would get daily mail readers frothing at the mouth . Here we go again , people spouting Plan B ! Plan C!
Just be sensible folks, thats basically the top and bottom of it

That may be true. However, I have Covid, live alone and have only been on public transport and to work. No socialising, no one coming to my house, or visiting anyone else's house.

Exactly. This Topic is starting to be full of unnecessary drama again I see.
SueSaid · 21/10/2021 07:52

God how depressing . Are you Piers Morgan op?

Let's leave the scaremongering shall we.

A far more usual thread would be 'are you vaccinated and if not why not?

If we need any restrictions it is because, as always, people are unable to follow basic guidelines so they need to be told what to do.

SueSaid · 21/10/2021 07:56

'Yep. Everyone listened the first time. Most people listened the second, and even the third. And yet, here we all are. It's almost like this approach ... gasp! ... isn't working.'

🙄

But it did work, because with 4000 daily admissions at the peak no one was ventilated in corridors like in Northern Italy which has a superior health service (allegedly). It allowed the nhs to cope with the surge you see so it did work. If you mean it didn't fix covid, then yes you are correct. It isn't that simple sadly.

AnkleDeep · 21/10/2021 07:57

When did the truth and scientific facts become scaremongering? An eminent scientist said this morning that in this country we are not complacent about avoidable deaths - until now.

Brickskithouse · 21/10/2021 07:58

@BrainBleachNeeded

Since when does anyone use the daily Mail as a reference? It’s all BS.

I’ve continued to wear a mask in shops and indoors. If everyone just kept testing, washing hands and wearing masks we’d be fine.

If you’re worried about things then don’t wait for the this shit government to tell you what to do. We were told in February/March by Chris Whitty that we may see further restrictions in winter. Don’t act surprised now.

Posts like this make me CRAZY. I am in a classroom every day as are my kids, partner works in a supermarket. I promise you that washing my hands or wearing a mask as I glide past a few people in Sainsbury's is going to make no difference to my risk of contracting or unknowingly spreading covid. We've already had it anyway - obviously- as have most people who have to work in real jobs. You know, in the real world and that.
