Funny how the default setting is to stop ppl seeing their families rather than paying people properly to self isolate. If that had been implemented properly it would have helped a great deal
In fairness, when they finally have this enquiry they will find that the biggest failings that could have prevented more deaths (after first lockdown) was the failure of test and trace and the failure to get people to self isolate.

Although there are so many other failings it would be hard to list them all here.

Onlinedilema · 21/10/2021 06:21

I'd like to know how many seriously ill people in hospital with covid have been double jabbed.

Geamhradh · 21/10/2021 06:22

@Dishhh

Hang on. This is scare-mongering at its finest. I would have expected better from you.

If you READ past the headline, you'll see it's based on nothing but a "source". Quote:

^However according to reports last night, the Cabinet Office officials are said to be discussing proposals which could form part of a potential 'Plan C' if coronavirus cases continue to rise towards Christmas.
Such a plan would see restrictions on gatherings among different households if pressures on hospitals worsen, according to The Telegraph. One Whitehall source told the paper: 'The focus is very much on measures that can be taken without a major economic impact, so keeping shops, pubs and restaurants open but looking at other ways to reduce the risks.'
^

This is not much of anything at all, as it turns out.

"according to" "are said to" "could" "potential" "if" X 2 "such a"

It's hypothetical expressions class 101.

I'm sorry if you work in a sector with no sick pay- (from your comment about not being paid to isolate) but so many people, employers and employees have abused furlough and leave during the past 18 months that genuinely needy people are finding the govt piggy bank is emptying fast.

All those stropping about making a massive fuss (about something that does not currently appear to be actual policy), maybe do something to avoid it having to happen. Wear a mask. Keep your distance. Open windows.

Trouble is, in my experience, a lot of folk who make the most noise about not wanting any sort of restrictions on socialising are often the ones who don’t comply with the most basic and low-level mitigation measures because for some reason they are unable to make the connection between wearing a mask, opening a window, keeping their distance and reducing infection.

‘You can’t make me wear a mask! There’s no bloody way MY 14 year old will wear a mask at school! You can’t make me sit in a draughty room! Who the fuck dos this government think they are telling me to keep my distance?’ etc, then as infection rates go up the shouting and ranting about more stringent restrictions starts. People amaze me.

Quite.
Lightswitch123 · 21/10/2021 06:25

@SpringRainbow

I doubt they will get much compliance at all this time round. Despite the rising cases, people just aren’t as afraid as they were last winter.

Last winter people ‘gave up their Christmas’ because they were scared. That isn’t necessarily going to be the case this year.

The vaccine has changed people’s attitudes and most people just want to be left to get on with it.

When I look around at those I know, pretty much everyone is just getting on with thing. Even those that were afraid to even leave their house for over a year are now going out again.

I think whatever restrictions they try and bring back they will really struggle with compliance.

Exactly. We've all moved on and absorbed it like any other risk- crossing a road/ drinking/ the flu etc.

I'd say the government will have a messy time of it if they try and bring in any significant restrictions. People want to see them building new hospitals instead

Lockdowns don't work . If they did we wouldn't still be here 2 years later

Dishhh · 21/10/2021 06:26

@PurpleOkapi

Yeah, it doesn't matter what rules they try to make, no one's listening anymore. And they're not going to start listening again until the goalposts stop moving. Those who think that continuing to move them until covid zero is somehow magically achieved should take heed.

Are you actually threatening someone/a group/something? How ridiculous.

This post comes from three less-than-circumspect sources: MercyBooth, The Daily Mail, and an "unnamed source in Whitehall". In that case, think at least three times before putting any trust in it.

FreeElf · 21/10/2021 06:27

Totally inadequate government who are incapable of making any decisions. Seem to sit on the fence, see which way the wind is blowing and then follow public opinion. Why oh why did they not leave mask wearing and social distancing in place instead of this ridiculous ‘freedom day’ they were hell bent on. Everything could have continued to stay open with minor restrictions, and minimised spread of infection, reintroducing restrictions now will have a diluted effect as people are used to not having any now.

megletthesecond · 21/10/2021 06:28

Why families before WFH, closing pubs, restaurants, gyms etc? We can quarantine and test before we see each other at Xmas.
(And I still haven't been to a pub, restaurant or gym since this kicked off).

Because the economy.
Remmy123 · 21/10/2021 06:32

Well I won't be stopped from seeing my vaccinated family - it's a circus!!

This morning news 'get booster to save Christmas' 😬

Tilltheend99 · 21/10/2021 06:34

@whymewhyme

I wont be complying! When is this shit show going to end!
If Gov do plan B now we won’t need a lockdown but the Gov are useless and have been contradictory at every level.

Circuit breaker lockdowns at half terms could have been a useful tool in getting rates under control but as whymewhyme has not so subtly pointed out Gov has lost all credibility on this front with most people.

It’s entirely their own fault as have spent the past several months putting pressure on people to go back to work and go out and about spending money. They were happy for certain corners of the press to make out that Covid was over and that people who are jabbed are untouchable by any contagious disease let alone Covid.

Poor awareness campaigns are also to blame. People should be aware that they can still get ill while jabbed and still spread it to vulnerable who weren’t able to get it and anti vaxers who don’t believe in it.

PurpleOkapi · 21/10/2021 06:35

Are you actually threatening someone/a group/something? How ridiculous.

I'm stating that their approach isn't going to work, and if they want to actually accomplish anything, they're going to need to change tactics. Though they're never going to get anywhere close to covid zero anyway, so the only real variable here seems to be how much damage they'll do to everyone else while trying.

Since when does anyone use the daily Mail as a reference? It’s all BS.

I’ve continued to wear a mask in shops and indoors. If everyone just kept testing, washing hands and wearing masks we’d be fine.

If you’re worried about things then don’t wait for the this shit government to tell you what to do. We were told in February/March by Chris Whitty that we may see further restrictions in winter. Don’t act surprised now.

Er...when people comply with mitigation measures.

Hope that helps.

A million times, this.
Tilltheend99 · 21/10/2021 06:41

People who are so happy about catching flu are going to get a shock if they ever actually get flu. Pre Covid people didn’t go around saying how happy they would be to have flu.

“Oh Charlie, you just have the flu? Come in and work, we have that important meeting and you know we don’t mind a bit of flu round here” Hmm

JuneOsborne · 21/10/2021 06:42

They must think we're all thick.

A press conference having not had one for months, but with the message that we're all good, just get your booster, throw in a threat about Christmas. At the same time the press are talking about plan B.

The very next day leak to the press that there's a plan C on the table.

We're being primed.

We can see the cases rising, we know winter is coming, no one wants a lockdown, so we'll call them plan C instead.

And we're going to do what we did last time and keep putting it all off until it's too bloody late.

Why they don't just say masks, social distancing and wfh if you can again to stave off the other potential restrictions? It could mean the difference between schools staying open and no more lockdowns.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2021 06:42

Keep everything open, but don't see your family.
With such contradictions no wonder people won't comply with anything.

Enterifyoudare · 21/10/2021 06:43

Nope. If politicians can break the rules to get their dicks wet, I'm visiting my mum at Christmas. And I was one of the people still complying at that stage.

SapereAude · 21/10/2021 06:47

Folks, it's a non article.
It's Mail clickbait because nothing much was said at the presser.
It says NOTHING about anybody not being able to see their mum at Christmas.

EffOrf · 21/10/2021 06:47

What a farce, it was reported in the DM yesterday to pay your deposits for the work Christmas do, today they are saying there may be no household mixing so go to Christmas party but don't see family.

Reastie · 21/10/2021 06:48

This is all part of the propaganda and this is how they work. They let out things like this to panic people to the point they either start doing additional measures themselves eg back to mask wearing, or they cry out for the gov to increase their measures now to prevent further measures down the line (like lots of posters here are now doing). At each step the gov have been late to act and it’s reached a point where most people are crying out for them to implement more than they have and by this point people, in general, are grateful for the little they have done rather than hateful. It feels like everyone is being totally manipulated into everything, yet they don’t seem to realise and it’s working.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/10/2021 06:48

You are basically describing plan B. It needs to be government mandated. Hardly anyone will comply until it is.
