Also 'eligible' is not the same as 'able to get an appointment

Very true! 12-15 group have been eligible for a few weeks now but far too many have had no access to the vaccine due to the slow process of vaccination teams having to set up in school.

Same with boosters. There are a lot of eligible people right now but for various reasons there are delays. There is a delay in many carehomes now which is really not acceptable when we know these are some if the most vulnerable people.

@QueenofKattegat I've noticed names that have been quiet for a couple of months crawling out of the woodwork again now that cases are increasing, winter is on the way and restrictions are being discussed once more. It's almost as if they're delighted to have something to get their teeth into again after months of better news. Can't wait for the hideous accusations and insults to begin again.

It's one of the most depressing things about this whole situation.

SapereAude · 21/10/2021 12:36

@QueenofKattegat

People desperate for others to isolate themselves from loved ones, at the expense of their mental health. People thinking that others should miss days of work and therefore pay to isolate while awaiting test results without complaint, even if they're going to be unable to pay for rent or food. People calling those with disabilities or health conditions who cannot wear masks selfish superspreaders, threatening or even physically attacking them. People thinking that those who may lose their livelihoods should shut up and put up. People branding those with their MH in the toilet as whiners

Unbelievable isn't it. I can't believe we are back here again. The same old posters crawling out of the woodwork with their gleeful "predictions". The same tired old insults of selfish this and selfish that. I despair.

To be fair, the person who has started this whole thread is a leading "anti dementor" or so she claims. Which is odd as she's managed to whip up the fearmongering more successfully than any lockdown "enthusiast" Likewise the posters beating their chests and proclaiming their non compliance se far more hyperbolic than anyone saying "what if masks were reintroduced, that might help"
TheVampiresWife · 21/10/2021 12:39

Can we stop with the dementor/anti dementor crap now please?

TheVampiresWife · 21/10/2021 12:40

As for eligibility, I'm supposed to have a third dose (as opposed to a booster) as directed by my consultant, but absolutely nobody (consultant, GP, practice nurse, 119, online booking) knows how to arrange it.

It's ridiculous.

It is because hospitalisations and deaths are on the rise, don't you watch the news? So yes in the summer while everything has been fairly painless I haven't been on the hysterical covid threads but here we go again a goady op starting a goady thread designed to get all the 'it's a dictatorship I'll do wtf I want!!' folk whipped up.

SueSaid · 21/10/2021 12:44

'As for eligibility, I'm supposed to have a third dose (as opposed to a booster)'

A third dose is a booster when you are eligible you will be contacted by the nhs. Not all (if any) gp practices are doing it so its not surprising your gp, consultant or specialist nurse will have a clue when the NHS will be contacting you.

No, the third dose is not a booster. It's a third primary dose for those who are immunosuppressed. I'll have a booster six months after my third dose (if I ever manage to get my third dose, that is).
TheVampiresWife · 21/10/2021 12:48

@JaniieJones Third primary dose

Nightclubs in Italy were the last thing to open, along with theatres. They opened last week (11/10) The entertainment and hospitality sector quite rightly had been campaigning for their re-opening for some time.

CallmeHendricks · 21/10/2021 12:54

If I'm still expected to teach in a school "as normal" in the run-up to Christmas, will I chuff not see my family over the holiday period!

silveryslade · 21/10/2021 12:56

So a source says that the government is discussing stuff. And this is big news?

Of course they will discuss this. It would be the elephant in the room if they didn't.

Oh yes please, all that stuff was ridiculous and the anti-dementor threads were embarrassing.

Same as in Spain. Nightclubs and discos were the last to open but without any kind of Covid passport. Fortunately theaters like the Royal Theater in Madrid reopened in July 2020 when the majority of theaters in the world were closed.

Totally agree.

Let’s be honest, those accusing others of being selfish are actually worried about themselves. They’re worried that those not being compliant are going to pass it on to them. When they get righteous about the NHS becoming overwhelmed, what they’re actually thinking is, “I hope there’s a bed available if I need it” If that wasn’t the case, why should they care if someone else ‘isn’t following the rules’?

We’re all inherently selfish because we want ourselves and our families to survive. It’s just that some like to dress it up in moral outrage.

justasking111 · 21/10/2021 13:09

Well we do childcare for grandchildren all year round so to abstain on Xmas day would be bizarre

TheVampiresWife · 21/10/2021 13:27

Oh yes please, all that stuff was ridiculous and the anti-dementor threads were embarrassing

All of the threads were embarrassing, @rrhuth. Whether it was 'I'm going to lick the postman' or 'if you sit on a park bench you're a murderer'. The 'sides' thing generally. Neither acquitted themselves well at all.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 21/10/2021 13:31

I won’t be complying either. Maybe if they changed the ridiculous -‘positive case in the household, everyone still welcome to attend work/school‘ -rules it would have more impact!

Brindle88 · 21/10/2021 13:33

They were mistaken ditching masks and should have jabbed school kids before September. There should be no need for lockdowns.

Geamhradh · 21/10/2021 13:38

@Alondra, are you in Spain? (Hijacking slightly) I was thinking of going over to England end Nov/beg of December but if things carry on like this thread seems to infer they might, I may head west instead. How are things over there? (I'd go Madrid-Salamanca way) Smile

IncessantNameChanger · 21/10/2021 13:42

I do agree with a pp that it's hard to get scared knowing you have covid at home but you, dh and 3 other kids can mix freely. I cant get back from that

ilovesooty · 21/10/2021 13:43

@SapereAude

Folks, it's a non article. It's Mail clickbait because nothing much was said at the presser. It says NOTHING about anybody not being able to see their mum at Christmas.
Exactly. Ridiculous thread.

It's ridiculous.

It is. It's why I keep saying the whole system in the UK is failing.

I'm a Spanish expat in Australia. The Australian government fucked up big time with contracts supply of vaccine, we were 8 months behind the UK in vaccinating the population.

My son is immunocompromised and had the 2nd Pfizer vaccine in July. I was concerned about the third dose and his GP called last week to let me know the government had approved the jab for severely immunocompromised and to make an appointment. He had his third vaccine today.

It's unbelievable that you can't get a third dose in the UK when in Australia, months behind you in vaccination rates, is been so easy.

It's why I keep saying the whole UK system is failing. One of the richest countries in the world and is seriously failing their people in basic health care in a pandemic.
