London Tier 2 Lockdown?

daily fail link

This sounds pretty definite (yet another leak) - so no mixing of households inside at all from today in London?

Haenow · 12/10/2020 12:22

I don’t think it’ll be the case. Some London boroughs don’t have particularly high numbers.

Humptytheboiledegg · 12/10/2020 12:26

Apparently evening standard reporting the same thing. London too interconnected to be treated as separate boroughs.

IME when things are reported like this they turn out to be true (based on solid info/leaks)- there’s no speculative language being used.

Oh fuck.

DontBeShelfish · 12/10/2020 12:28

Christ. I'm not in England but this sounds so tough. How on Earth will they police that in London, of all places?

mumwon · 12/10/2020 12:46

do they have enough police? (obviously not)
Like policing 6 at Christmas - can you imagine police going round to each household to check? (probably whilst having more than 6 at home themselves)
Although goodness knows what is going to happen seeing as we have the same number in hospital as we did at lock down...

Much of Scotland doesn't have high numbers, yet we are all banned from meeting indoors ☹

It shouldn't have to be policed. The police should be free to do their usual jobs if people were to apply self control
Lumene · 12/10/2020 13:37

If you look at the Standard copy (which was original source) it says it is planned for near future rather than right now.

beckypv · 12/10/2020 13:39

I totally agree with this.

beckypv · 12/10/2020 13:41

Sorry, pressed to early. I totally agree with your policing comment dumplingsandstew. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just trust people!

Lumene · 12/10/2020 13:43

From ES article:

“ London is expected to be put into Tier 2 shortly if the virus continues to spread and this could happen early next week, or possibly even at the end of this week.”

Ryerossy · 12/10/2020 13:44

I won't be complying with it if thats the case. I don't go to the supermarket, I don't see friends, I don't eat out or go to the pub.

I will continue to see my mum and sister.

DumplingsAndStew · 12/10/2020 13:48

And that's exactly why they need to issue blanket restrictions 🙄
Ryerossy · 12/10/2020 13:49

And that's exactly why they need to issue blanket restrictions

It won't make any difference; I won't be complying.

Frazzled2207 · 12/10/2020 13:50

i'm an ex londoner in greater manchester. It's been like that for us since july. It's rubbish but you get used to it. But the childcare bubble rule helps an awful lot.

Titsywoo · 12/10/2020 13:52

What is meant by London though? I'm inside the M25 but don't live in either a London postcode or even a London borough (just outside).

Ryerossy · 12/10/2020 13:54

Testing and tracing, not lockdowns, was the way to deal with this. That the government fucked that up is not my fault nor my responsibility.

CallmeFP · 12/10/2020 13:55

Papers affirming it’ll be announced tonight and they haven’t been wrong so far so we’ll see.

Devlesko · 12/10/2020 13:56

I often wonder about these so called leaks, you'd think they'd be more careful. Grin
Remember Yes minister and the decisions on what should be a leak Grin always makes me laugh.

CallmeFP · 12/10/2020 13:58

@titsywoo

Places like Sutton, Bexley, Redbridge, Bromley mentioned in the London list.

JorisBonson · 12/10/2020 14:00

@Ryerossy

Why?
RedMarauder · 12/10/2020 14:02

@Titsywoo then you will be exempt unless your council says you are not.

Requinblanc · 12/10/2020 14:02

And who exactly will enforce this in a city the size of London?

The government has lost control, failed to plan and is simply repeating the same mistakes over and over and people no longer trust them.

So good luck with policing the capital...

They should be focusing on getting testing/track and trace to work, build more capacity for the health service and better quarantine measures for people coming back from abroad.

Lockdown did not work and the government failed to use it to put the above tools in place.

So I am not listening to anything they have to say anymore.

Johnson and his cronies should resign and a temporary government with cross party representation should take over.

RedMarauder · 12/10/2020 14:02

@Ryerossy then expect someone to dob you in.

Ryerossy · 12/10/2020 14:03

Why?

Because I'm not prepared to live my life like that until there's a vaccine in place, and because my mum and sister both WFH and don't go to the supermarket, same as my DH and I, so the reality of the risk is minimal.
