Just heard this on breaking news.

From midnight tonight? Bad news for anyone who is there now and due to travel home. We were supposed to be going at the end of August and now I’m limbo about what to do!!!

This is why some workplaces were saying if you had to quarantine it'd endbup as unpaid leave.

I feel sorry for those affected, it was my main reason for sitting this summer out as the risk of there being changes was quite high.

Are you supposed to be travelling to the most affected areas?

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/07/2020 17:58

What news have you seen this on? I can’t find it.

HarrietOh · 25/07/2020 17:59

Guardian saying government set to announce it shortly

Motheroftwofeline · 25/07/2020 18:00

Admittedly it was via Twitter, but it was posted by the Times political editor

I’ll try and link twitter.com/shippersunbound/status/1287066093358645248?s=21

We were due to visit Catalonia where the outbreak looks pretty bad at the moment, so my sister and I were on the fence anyway.

It was just posted on BBC news too. Going to be tough for people who are already there or booked to go

Staplemaple · 25/07/2020 18:10

It has been brewing for a few weeks though, and was made clear that it was a possibility. I can absolutely see why people still went on holiday, but unfortunately this is the risk you face at the moment.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/07/2020 18:10

Friends of ours have flown out today, and our Spanish in laws were due to fly over to visit us the week after next.
Oh well!

Staplemaple · 25/07/2020 18:12

You might be lucky and it might have been lifted by then Grin

EvilPea · 25/07/2020 18:14

No ones going to risk holidays, surely?
Or they just won’t bother with the quarantine when they get back

RhianFuckingMorris · 25/07/2020 18:17

Nothing is a certainty in our lives anymore.
Everything we plan or do is subject to change or cancellation.
This us what every one has to consider every time we plan yo do anything now. This is the new normal. Sad

It's shit!

Uhoh2020 · 25/07/2020 18:28

Do you think this Will apply to the Canary Islands too given that geographically its nowhere near mainland Spain where the out breaks are?

Barbie222 · 25/07/2020 18:35

Not sure, I was wondering that. There are current active cases there though and the figures are high - 2460 cases and 162 deaths since start of it all.

BKCRMP · 25/07/2020 18:35

This was always going to be a risk of anyone travelling abroad this summer. People who thought otherwise were naive

Who has said they didn’t think there would be a risk of plans having to change?
ChristmasinJune · 25/07/2020 18:38

I think this is a wise move.... poor Spain though Sad

I'm sort of assuming that anybody choosing to holiday abroad this summer will have accounted for the fact that they might have to quarantine and will be able to accommodate that.

I understand from an economic perspective why holidays abroad were re started but they were never really a good idea were they?

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/07/2020 18:39

Can someone link to the news re quarantine on return from Spain? I don't see it on Sky or BBC.

SwedishEdith · 25/07/2020 18:41

Guess it might depend on the source of the outbreaks? Do we know if opening up to tourism has meant tourists have brought it with them?

BKCRMP · 25/07/2020 18:41

@Drivingdownthe101 not so much on here but on a couple of the UK holiday abroad groups on FB there was a very general belief that all is fine now and if anyone dared suggest things could change at a moments notice or insurance could be an issue you got jumped on and shot down.

Redolent · 25/07/2020 18:41

@Drivingdownthe101

Plenty of people have booked holidays to Spain knowing that they wouldn’t be able to quarantine for two weeks upon their return, should the rules change. That’s akin to being in denial about the situation.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/07/2020 18:41

Thank you, StatisticalSense.

BarefootHippieChick · 25/07/2020 18:43

I feel for anyone who was just about to jet off to Spain, you can join us over here in the Portugal corner! The irony is that we could easily come home and quarantine for 2 weeks with no problem but still can't travel against fco advice.

lifeafter50 · 25/07/2020 18:44

I'm puzzled people have gone when it has been in the news for weeks about outbreaks and lockdowns in Catalonia etc.

BarefootHippieChick · 25/07/2020 18:46

Swedishedith according to Spanish papers their outbreak is mainly due to a festival day that they had right after their lockdown ended, and young Spaniards crowding back into bars and clubs.
