Just heard this on breaking news.

From midnight tonight? Bad news for anyone who is there now and due to travel home. We were supposed to be going at the end of August and now I’m limbo about what to do!!!

OP posts:

To be honest, that's the risk anyone takes going abroad during a global pandemic.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 19:40

Would that include people who booked their holidays in December and can't get a refund??

Thanks a bunch.

lockdownalli · 25/07/2020 19:40

I would imagine most people in that position just won't bother with quarantine. There is nobody to police it.

You don't have to tell your manager if/where you are going when on annual leave. Most will just go back to work if there is a chance they won't be paid.

Doobydoo · 25/07/2020 19:41

I think it is too soon for people to be going abroad. Obviously we are going to have to adapt etc and will go on hols but at the moment I do not think it is a good idea.

jasjas1973 · 25/07/2020 19:42

People will do what their Govt tells them they can do and until tonight that was "We can all go on hols to Spain"

The economy is already going to take a massive hit without closing down EJ, Ryanair, Gatwick and Heathrow unnecessarily.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 25/07/2020 19:42

This has always been a risk. It's been discussed on multiple threads where some gung ho people have been having a go at more cautious posters.

SummerPeony · 25/07/2020 19:42

Does anyone know if this includes Tenerife?

mccavitythethird · 25/07/2020 19:44

@Drivingdownthe101

What news have you seen this on? I can’t find it.
I saw it on the BBC, somebody I know is there at the moment so I hope it's all OK with her husband's job. I don't know if she knows yet but I'm not going to be breaking the news via FB, presumably the travel company will be in touch with them.
hayfeverhellish · 25/07/2020 19:44

They really just saying on the news that mainland Spain is off the travel corridor and FCO is now essential only - this bit doesn't include the islands. But all returners from Spain AND islands will have to quarantine. They're explaining a lot of about the differences and why.

Onmyown1 · 25/07/2020 19:46

If you book a holiday at the moment you must know there’s a chance things can change (not people who booked before the pandemic). I’ve booked flights for my mom to come over as she lives in Spain. I did tell her she might have to quarantine or either of us could be locked down again and it was a chance she was willing to take.

Glower · 25/07/2020 19:46

I’m surprised by the amount of people I’ve seen suddenly jet off abroad to Spain/Italy/France in the past few weeks - mostly planned last minute so not pre-Covid bookings.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 19:48

Which channel hayfever?

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 19:48

I heard this was only DoT not FCO but the news will be evolving.

mccavitythethird · 25/07/2020 19:49

It wasn't - the advice before tonight was still this:

COVID-19 travel guidance
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office currently advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

That doesn't include holidays.

@SummerPeony
The FCO haven't yet updated their webpage with the latest guidance for Spain but when they do it will be at www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 19:49

Lady on Sky just said 48 hours ? Eh??

hayfeverhellish · 25/07/2020 19:49

@Piggywaspushed sky news.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 19:50

I have £3000 resting on whether the FCO issues a do not travel...

Mangofandangoo · 25/07/2020 19:51

My mother in law lives in Spain and has said that from what she has observed, any brits that have arrived appear to have forgotten about social distancing so that's probably got something to do with it.

shamalidacdak · 25/07/2020 19:52

Shouldn't be bloody traveling overseas during a pandemic. Have zero sympathy

Bluebell1995 · 25/07/2020 19:53

Well I could see it coming I suppose, but not as quick as 24hrs notice.

I booked Spain a year ago, due to travel mid August for a week. Everything was going ahead as per FCO advice. Flights and hotel open. Now, who knows.

I've worked front line throughout and absolutely can't work from home, the advice re hcp's returning to work is unclear really.

More unneeded stress tbh. I'd be happy to rearrange but can't afford to lose the money.

chomalungma · 25/07/2020 19:54

I love how some people selectively quote guidance

COVID-19 travel guidance

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office currently advises British nationals against all but essential international travel. Travel to some countries and territories is currently exempted

This advice is being kept under constant review. Travel disruption is still possible and national control measures may be brought in with little notice.

Rhine · 25/07/2020 19:56

It was obvious this could happen. Personally the last thing I’d want to do right now is jet off anywhere, planes are hotbeds for spreading viruses!

Freeekedout · 25/07/2020 19:56

Piggywaspushed I've got £2.4k testing on the FCO banking travel to Spain as well. We booked Majorca in Sept last year. Tried to cancel but we have to pay the full amount whether we go or not. Fingers crossed... We've got just under two weeks before we were meant to travel. We were on the fence but have decided we're definitely not going now.

Freeekedout · 25/07/2020 19:57

*resting
*banning
🙄

Lelophants · 25/07/2020 19:58

I honestly don't get why people keep being surprised by this.
