Anyone see him on the news?

Clapping for a few moments for the NHS and then asking the camera crew if they got what they needed.

I was a little disappointed as, although I’m sure it wasn’t, it came across a bit like fake compassion.

Meh
Clapping isn't a sign of compassion.

JamieLeeCurtains · 07/05/2020 20:15

He was saying, 'Can you go away now?' Politely.

DBML · 07/05/2020 20:16

No, I agree. It wasn’t that.

Al politicians have staged appearances...but when they get given away, it looks, in my opinion, quite vulgar.

OP posts:
JamieLeeCurtains · 07/05/2020 20:16

He didn't run away and hide in a fridge, for example.

DearTeddyRobinson · 07/05/2020 20:17

Also, it's Keir.

JamieLeeCurtains · 07/05/2020 20:17

And you've spelled his name wrong

DBML · 07/05/2020 20:17

@JamieLeeCurtains

Quite. But I don’t think he looked very good either. If you’re going to agree to stand and clap the NHS, at least show a bit of respect.

OP posts:
DBML · 07/05/2020 20:17

Name spelling - my bad.

OP posts:
JamieLeeCurtains · 07/05/2020 20:17

And it's Sir Keir to you

WrongKindOfFace · 07/05/2020 20:21

The sooner we stop this competitive clapping crap the better.

Didkdt · 07/05/2020 20:21

It's very him.
I worked under him many years ago when he was rising up the CPS grease pole.
That is exactly what he was like then.

JamieLeeCurtains · 07/05/2020 20:23

Excellent. He'll do well as Prime Minister.

Redolent · 07/05/2020 20:23

On every thread about Keir Starmer someone who claims to have ‘worked under him’ always appears in the first page.

user1471448556 · 07/05/2020 20:24

I didn't see this, but I saw him in PMQs. He was great - so effective and we need a healthy opposition. His name is spelt: Keir. I did see Boris and co cheering when they prevented nurses from getting a pay rise - that was really vulgar.

NiteFlights · 07/05/2020 20:24

He didn't run away and hide in a fridge, for example Grin

Let's face it can't be any worse than BJ

SylvanianFrenemies · 07/05/2020 20:32

Can you elaborate @didkdt? Also, did he always look like his hand has just been slammed in a drawer but he's trying not to show it?

I want him to be next pm out of the choices available, but can't help noticing the above.

Lazingonasunnyafternoon20 · 07/05/2020 20:41

Also, did he always look like his hand has just been slammed in a drawer but he's trying not to show it?

Ha Grin

Didkdt · 07/05/2020 20:43

No to be fair these days he looks like he's recovering from a drinking problem.
He was very suave back then, really polished. A lot more eloquent. Very well put together.
But if I'm honest he wasn't someone you thought "ooh he's got my back."

ivykaty44 · 07/05/2020 20:46

I think he looks like a chap in “Thunderbirds”

QuimJongUn · 07/05/2020 20:46

The clapping is ridiculous. I'd have thought more of him if he hadn't bothered in the first place.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 07/05/2020 20:51

@Didkdt I thought that's how you have to be to be a leader in a political party e.g. a backstabber.

DBML · 07/05/2020 20:51

I personally don’t care if people participate in the clapping or not.

But, there are some people who really appreciate it and feel appreciated in the hard jobs they are doing right now.
The little girl interviewed almost brought me to tears when she said how much she loved to see that people cared about her dad who was a paramedic and how she felt so proud of him, she sometimes clapped him at home.

So to have any politician be so dismissive of it felt a bit mean. And I think he’d have been better off not clapping if he felt it wasn’t a worthwhile activity.

I feel for anyone who is going to be filmed clapping and have it spread around the news and internet, whether it's Keir, Boris, William and Kate. You can't look too miserable, but can't look too happy, can't clap for too short a time but can't stay out too long, how do you end it, do you just turn around and walk away. I know it's part of the job but it must make you very self-conscious, far more so than doing a speech etc.

Didkdt · 07/05/2020 20:56

@BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup yes he has all the qualities of a great politician Grin
