Anyone see him on the news?

Clapping for a few moments for the NHS and then asking the camera crew if they got what they needed.

I was a little disappointed as, although I’m sure it wasn’t, it came across a bit like fake compassion.

How comes any criticism of any members of the Labour Party on this site ALWAYS get turned around onto slating the conservatives.

Bollocks. Loads of Labour folk get a roasting on here:

  • Corbyn
  • Abbott
  • Blair
  • Long-Bailey

Each is criticised for different valid (and some not) reasons. I joined in panning him for his Q and A on here because it was anemic.

I'm doing the opposite here because the criticism of him is fake, at a time when he's raising really important issues in PMQs.

Vinoisallmine · 08/05/2020 08:52

He is fake.

He proclaims to represent the working class ; a knighted millionaire arch remaining socialist.

Now that's bollocks.

AllAboutHallowsEve · 08/05/2020 09:01

Keir Starmer is my MP. I saw him at his surgery a few years ago when I was being harassed by a neighbour. I won't go into full details of the support he and his team gave me as it's very outing, but Keir was kind, sympathetic and approachable when I saw him. Thanks to him and his excellent caseworker I got the help I needed and the council took action, when previously they had been very slow to do anything.

Fuckinellitsme · 08/05/2020 09:05

@Vinoisallmine his mother was a nurse and his father was a toolmaker. He grew up in South London and worked hard to achieve what he has.

Unlike Johnson et al he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth and he hasn't known immense wealth and privilege from the day he was born.

I find the idea that if you're working class you should know your place and never attempt to improve your situation for fear of being called 'fake' ludicrous. Also the notion that if you are successful you cannot have empathy for those less fortunate, otherwise you're fake.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 08/05/2020 09:14

I will never unsee the 'hand in a drawer' thing Grin

This ^

Surely his background makes him a good example of what the working man can achieve.

Or are people suggesting we should only have a high school drop out who works a low paid job as the labour leader?

Of course we need somebody educated to be filling these high posts. Being educated and doing well is not the same as being born with the silver spoon. Achievement is something we should all be striving for. Working class included.

bellinisurge · 08/05/2020 09:43

Contrast the person who tries to protect his daughter from the paparazzi yesterday with the person who needed to be taken to court to acknowledge the existence of one of his daughters.

orangejuicer · 08/05/2020 09:50

NRFT but the full footage is on Twitter and it's not what some claim. It wasn't a cynical PR stunt.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 08/05/2020 09:51

Happens the other way round as well...I don’t understand it myself

Bertoldbrecht · 08/05/2020 09:57

He can't win either way. Despised by the far left wing of the party who can't get over corbyn and have no intention of unifying behind him like the tories do, however inept their leader is. Obviously fair game for the tories, aided and abetted by the press who will pounce on any trivial misdemeanour.
I can't see the problem tbh. He just asked if they'd got enough footage. Funny how it got leaked Hmm
Talking of unfortunate incidents like this - wasn't boris recorded on the phone revealing a journalist's address to someone (darius guppy ?) who was later
imprisoned for beating said journalist up.

DBML · 08/05/2020 09:58

@JamieLeeCurtains

To be honest, trying to get back his daughter or not, it still looks staged now.
And I’m sick of ALL of our politicians from ALL persuasions using things people genuinely care about as PR stunts. That includes Johnson.

I always find it distinctly disappointing when this happens and wonder why politicians can’t just genuinely care. Everything is for show, no matter which party we are talking about.
Some pm’s around the world come across as genuinely caring, like Jacinda (though I suspect I’ve missed something she’s done as well, who knows, I’m losing all trust lately).

I guess that’s my naivety showing. The hope for a party we can fully trust. Probably never going to happen.

But @JamieLeeCurtains you seem particularly hurt by this and quite venomous and persistent in your tone. I don’t feel that passionate about any politician myself, but I’ll apologise for upsetting you as I can see it means a lot.

Of course it's all staged. That's what the media are about. It's all staged when they show Boris outside number 10 clapping too. All of it.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 08/05/2020 10:08

Venomous?

I can’t see the venom

DBML · 08/05/2020 10:11

@JeanfromAccounts

Oh! I didn’t realise I wasn’t allowed an opinion!

My apologies, I take it all back.

Try doing something you believe in sincerely while being filmed and knowing you'll be judged on every minutiae of what you do and every involuntary tic of your face and then see how natural and easy you find it.

DBML · 08/05/2020 10:22

@Lisa

If you care about something it’ll show.
And if you don’t care then it will also show.

I don’t understand what is ‘fake’ about him? He seems pretty straightforward to me.

PeartreeProductions · 08/05/2020 10:28

Yep, fake news a lot of Tory bots aboutGrin

Stellaris22 · 08/05/2020 10:40

Try getting the full report before posting. The cameraman said he wanted to go get his daughter.

I've been quietly pleased with Starmers performance at PMQ's: organised, well researched and very clear, it's really showing the Tories weaknesses when they don't have a house to jeer and be nasty. They don't have answers and just make it up, good work Starmer!

One of those agree to disagree things then Smile
