Anyone see him on the news?

Clapping for a few moments for the NHS and then asking the camera crew if they got what they needed.

I was a little disappointed as, although I’m sure it wasn’t, it came across a bit like fake compassion.

OP posts:

Of course you're allowed an opinion but it should be an informed opinion or you look like a bit of a twit. I watched the clip on YouTube, the press are there to film the Leader of the Opposition clapping- which he does. If he hadn't, then they would have been filming him not being there and making a fuss of that. After some clapping he politely asks them if they've got what they need "cos we'll get Lara back" The Sky cameraman tweeted KS was talking about his daughter.

(think it was Lara)

Now don't be a Tory stooge, OP.

NOTANUM · 08/05/2020 10:53

Yes it's Lara, his daughter, whom they obviously positioned out of the camera's view. She is about 8 years old I understand, it's after 8pm so probably missing bedtime and they want to fetch her back given it's a busy London street full of cars and people.
What a fuss about nothing.

Bertoldbrecht · 08/05/2020 10:54

Crikey ! Barclay brothers must be off sick Grin daily telegraph main headline not critical of KS Hmm

LisaSimpsonsbff · 08/05/2020 10:59

@DBML post a video of you doing something you really care about and I absolutely promise you that people will be able to pull it to shreds and 'prove' that you don't actually care at all

TheCuriousMonkey · 08/05/2020 11:04

I worked under him many years ago when he was rising up the CPS grease pole.

KS was a self employed barrister before he became DPP. He did not work at the CPS. He did not "rise up" the CPS. He was appointed DPP straight from the Bar, as was the case for all the DPPs before him.

Until he became DPP, as a self employed barrister no-one would have "worked under him" at the CPS or anywhere else.

FliesandPies · 08/05/2020 11:12

Absolutely.

Obviously he must know that this kind of twisted stuff comes with the job but it must still be shit.

Didkdt · 08/05/2020 11:19

Curiousmonkey the Cpa and DPP are not severed bodies they have always worked in conjunction with each other Smile
I'm not giving a blow by identifying blow account of my role vs his.

FliesandPies · 08/05/2020 11:31

I'm not giving a blow by identifying blow account of my role vs his

Of course not Didkdt, no one should expect you to do that. Good lord, you have your reputation to uphold!

effingterrified · 08/05/2020 11:34

I think he's great.

A million times better than Boris, who has spent this crisis in hiding mostly. Plus wasting valuable NHS resources by making himself deliberately ill by ignoring his own government's advice not to shake hands.

Pumpkintopf · 08/05/2020 11:35

So disappointing that threads like this are posted and when corrections are pointed out op just says 'ah well I don't trust any of them except that one in NZ and I'm not too sure about her'

Just accept that you've posted without knowing the full story- which hopefully explains everything unless you're completely unreasonable?

effingterrified · 08/05/2020 11:35

TheCuriousMonkey - ha, ha - well spotted pointing out the lying Tory troll!

Didkdt · 08/05/2020 11:38

Not lying CPS and DPP worked together but as you were on your troll hunt

FliesandPies · 08/05/2020 11:45

Careful effing, you don't know who you're messing with Shock

Didkdt · 08/05/2020 11:49

Effing you have mo ide if Boris caught it shaking hands on a hospital ward or if he washed his hands afterward
You are ridiculous to say he did it on purpose. Really do you actually think the prime minister deliberately made himself I'll with Covid 19?

Redolent · 08/05/2020 11:52

@Didkdt

No I don’t think BoJo deliberately gave himself Covid. Never attribute to malice what you can explain with stupidity.

TheCuriousMonkey · 08/05/2020 11:53

I am well aware the CPS and DPP are not "severed bodies". The DPP is head of the CPS. My point was that KS didn't work up through the CPS. He didn't work at the CPS until he was appointed DPP. He went straight into the top job.

PJ6M · 08/05/2020 11:56

The discussion is irrelevant whatever happened.

The fact that he cooperated with a reporter does not mean he doesn't care. It's not proof of anything, except that he cooperated with a reporter.

Typical post truth bollocks.

Anotherchangeanothername · 08/05/2020 11:59

Do you know how much pressure the constant camera crews outside their house is putting on his kids?
He wants to camera crews to leave him alone

Didkdt · 08/05/2020 12:07

@Redolent I was asking @effingterrified because she wrote "Plus wasting valuable NHS resources by making himself deliberately ill by ignoring his own government's advice not to shake hands".

DelphiniumBlue · 08/05/2020 12:09

6 pages of discussion about how he ended a clap! He took part in the event as required, sent his daughter out of shot, what more do people want?
FWIW, my son was best friends at primary school with the son of an MP. My son's birthday was on a date that always clashed Remembrance Sunday, and we used to arrange the date of his birthday party so that his friend could attend, as the mother very apologetically explained that the whole family was expected to turn up in church and then formal commemorations, with no exceptions or excuses.
It's bad enough being the child of a very minor public figure, but we do need to acknowledge that politicians do have families and lives outside the political arena, that things like clapping bear no relation to what you actually think of people who work in the NHS ( seeBoris and his ilk clapping after brayingly voting not to give them a pay award). It is all for show. Keir did his public duty, and kept it short so that he could return to spend time with his daughter. What more do you want from him?

Stellaris22 · 08/05/2020 12:11

The fact that he boasted about it means it was deliberate though. He didn't make himself ill on purpose, sure, but it was purposefully putting himself at risk. It was stupid, especially when he should be leading by example.

NiteFlights · 08/05/2020 12:18

Didkdt did you work in the Department for the Abolition of Punctuation Marks?

Didkdt · 08/05/2020 12:22

Stellar but she said he deliberately made himself ill and wasted NHS resources
There is no proof where he got it from
By the token of saying he did it deliberately token so then has everyone whose caught the virus because if they caught the virus they weren't following the rules
Are they all also wasting NHS resources

derxa · 08/05/2020 12:26

Some pm’s around the world come across as genuinely caring, like Jacinda (though I suspect I’ve missed something she’s done as well, who knows, I’m losing all trust lately). I can't abide her.
I think Keir is great. I shudder when I think about the damage Corbyn did to the Labour party and indirectly to this country. KS didn't get where he is today by being 'caring'. Such a limp description. He cares for his family but to run a party you need a backbone of steel.
I'm centre right but would vote Labour if he was leader.

Stellaris22 · 08/05/2020 12:28

It was deliberately wasting NHS resources though. Ignoring advice (from his own government) dangerously like that didn't help.
