Anyone see him on the news?

Clapping for a few moments for the NHS and then asking the camera crew if they got what they needed.

I was a little disappointed as, although I’m sure it wasn’t, it came across a bit like fake compassion.

And I think he’d have been better off not clapping if he felt it wasn’t a worthwhile activity.
And I'm sure you would have criticised him for that, too.

Kortnee · 07/05/2020 20:59

It sounded like he said "Have you got everything you need? I'll get xxxx back over" and he moved toward the road. Was talking about one of his children. He might have kept the child out of shot?

DBML · 07/05/2020 21:00

@Baileysforbreakfast

Absolutely not. I don’t know who is clapping when. And I don’t care. But I caught this on the news and thought it was poor taste.

I’m sure they all do it, he just got caught out. Still doesn’t look nice though.

@Kortnee

I hope that was the case. That sounds a lot better.

He doesn't seem comfortable with all the performing monkey nonsense tbh. Which is fair enough.

leli · 07/05/2020 21:07

@DBML
You give every impression of caring very much about the clapping, sentimental thoughts about little girls etc.

You obviously don't care about Sir KEIR Starmer.

I think he's great. I don't care about the nonsense clapping.

DBML · 07/05/2020 21:08

Sorry Leli,

  1. I’m sorry I don’t fully understand your post
  2. I’m sorry I possibly seem to have hurt you with my thread

Didkdt · 07/05/2020 21:24

If Boris Matthews or Rishi has done this they'd have been dragged from their homes and slaughtered in the streets social distancing be damned Sir Keir does it and any excuse possible is being scrapped up from the bottom of the barrel to defend it

MsHeffaPiglet · 07/05/2020 21:31

Sir Keir will never be Prime Minister. He has all the charisma of a dead fish.

Redolent · 07/05/2020 21:33

I see the Tory shills are out in full force tonight.

user1471448556 · 07/05/2020 21:39

Redolent - yes indeed. Think they are frit. Starmer is a formidable opponent and makes Boris look like the ridiculous man child that he is. Their response - try to do what they did to Corbyn - he didn’t sing the national anthem, he wore a tatty jacket to an official ceremony, etc etc.

Cinderella66 · 07/05/2020 21:40

Hmm, well, and we have a liar and a cheat as PM who doesn't even have a relationship with his other 5 children . . . did I mention he is a liar and a cheat?

LilacTree1 · 07/05/2020 21:41

You’ve had a glimpse of honesty. Anyone could have been caught out the same way.

JamieLeeCurtains · 07/05/2020 21:43

I'm an Ed Daveyist myself but would definitely vote for the knighted and unbenighted Keir Starmer over that ridiculous charlatan Johnson.

applecatchers36 · 07/05/2020 21:43

Redolent yes the Tory bots are pumped and primed tonight probably realise BJ is starting to be exposed for the weak, shallow and indolent PM he was always going to be...

Didkdt · 07/05/2020 21:49

Sticks and stones and all that
Boris was voted in despite his flaws and Corbyn wasn't and if he's such an easy target why couldn't Corbyn hold his own against him

tempester28 · 07/05/2020 21:49

Maybe he prefers the idea of giving them a pay rise instead.

2010Aussie · 07/05/2020 21:49

Labour's problem was not getting rid of Corbyn sooner - or electing him as leader in the first place. Starmer would have wiped the floor with the Tories long ago.

Didkdt · 07/05/2020 21:51

Which is fine tempester but then why bother with the clapping for the camera why not stay in and work on his manifesto

Growingboys · 07/05/2020 21:51

Urgh so cynical

ViciousJackdaw · 07/05/2020 21:55

why bother with the clapping for the camera why not stay in and work on his manifesto

Because then, the right would say 'Keir Starmer? He didn't clap. It's DISCUSTING!'

Easilyanxious · 07/05/2020 22:00

As someone else said if it had been Boris would be heavily criticised but it's ok as was the labour leader
I don't have any party allegiance but I can see when someone is wrong and accept when they have made a good decision or got something right as well .

Portabella24 · 07/05/2020 22:01

I remember my history teacher telling the class about when Stalin appeared in public, the first people to stop clapping were arrested and gulagged / shot. It feels a bit like that on my street.
I'm not a fan of Sir Keir (bit wooden and Blair-y) but I'd rather he fought for higher wages and better conditions for nurses than banged a saucepan for a couple of minutes.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 07/05/2020 22:06

It doesn’t look great he will learn from this mistake (I think he doesn’t like playing up to the cameras unlike Boris)

I have been very impressed with his calm and confident ease his has showed (have been for a few years saying he should be the Labour Party leader and very pleased he is)

He is so opposite to Boris Johnson in so many way and can manage to outsmart him.

recycledteenager24 · 07/05/2020 22:08

how the heck can you lead a so called 'working class' party and use the title 'sir' ? i know it's his right to do so but it comes across as a bit twatty.
