Is there something else going on

I’m sorry if this is in the wrong place, I can’t think of the right section to put it. I can’t shake the feeling that something deeper is going on here. I’m not sure if it’s my anxiety talking and the fact I have a lot more time to sit and think about it but I can’t get it out of my head. I am thinking something devastating to the planet, asteroid collision or something, with corona as a cover up to avoid mass hysteria in our final days. Why are they still launching Starlink when the rest of the world has completely shut down? Where is all this money coming from that the government is throwing around seemingly without a care to how we will pay it back. Why are they so unbothered by so many members of society who stand to lose everything if we stay shut down for much longer (pubs, leisure industry, travel/holidays, weddings etc). Why do we keep hearing about empty hospitals, bored staff and the empty Nightingale hospitals? Why are we stopping ALL planned surgery’s seemingly disregarding the health of everybody apart from corona sufferers. No plans for if/how/when our children will go back to school. I just can’t get my head around it.

No
HTH

AbsolomChautney · 23/04/2020 21:28

How would that help to reduce mass hysteria?

tempnamechange98765 · 23/04/2020 21:29

No. It's a pandemic. They've happened before, we're just unlucky it's happening now.

XylophoneSymphony · 23/04/2020 21:31

It’s not impossible I suppose OP but the chances of it being something like an asteroid collision are so so much smaller than coronavirus being the genuine and only reason this is all going on

Also if it was an asteroid collision would t they just let us carry on how we were and keep it a secret it’s not like we would know anymore about it if everything was still open

POP7777777 · 23/04/2020 21:31

No.

fluffdeloop · 23/04/2020 21:32

I think it would have been less stressful if we had just carried on with normal life then were suddenly wiped out by an asteroid!

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 23/04/2020 21:37

You’re actually helping me, which is why I put it in this forum. I guess it was just an idea planted in my head and it’s grown every day. I imagine they want us all locked down so we won’t notice things going on around us, giving those high up a chance to ‘disappear’ to a bunker or somewhere - we wouldn’t notice as we’re not seeing anyone anyway. I’m so scared, I am normally not like this at all.

It might be that Elon Musk was right & we’re all in an ancestor simulation:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.space.com/amp/41749-elon-musk-living-in-simulation-rogan-podcast.html

It might be comparative seconds since the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic for ‘them’, an advanced civilisation. They are checking to see what we’ve learnt...

LilacTree1 · 23/04/2020 21:40

I don’t think “something else” is going on

I do think this a shockingly hysterical over reaction to a pandemic and it worries me immensely that they’ve taken advantage of it so much.

TartanTexan · 23/04/2020 21:41

@Pleasedontdrawonyoursister why would ‘they’ need weeks to disappear into a bunker ? Wouldn’t all at press conference have to be in on ‘it’?

compassunreliable · 23/04/2020 21:45

I dunno, if you were going to use this as a smokescreen to disappear into a bunker then giving daily press conferences makes the quietly disappearing into your bunker part a bit tricky.

LilacTree1 · 23/04/2020 21:48

compass that made me 😂 so hard, thank you.

Imagine waking up one day, having your day, then at 5pm....oops, no government. PAAAARTY!

Parker231 · 23/04/2020 21:50

It’s a pandemic. This is the best way to manage the risks. Hopefully we can soon return to a new normal and very slowly get back to spending more time enjoying life outside the home.

TheGinGenie · 23/04/2020 21:54

It's just your anxiety talking. Conspiracy theorists always vastly overestimate what any government is actually capable of

Macaroni46 · 23/04/2020 21:58

It would explain the absence of BJ. He's holed up in a secret bunker somewhere ...

Inkpaperstars · 23/04/2020 21:59

Lilac what do you mean taken advantage? What is the advantage for the govt?

SemperIdem · 23/04/2020 22:02

It’s not called the Boomer Remover for nothing Hmm

Pennyandthejets · 23/04/2020 22:03

I recognise the way that you're thinking I think. I've had some periods of severe a anxiety in the past where my thoughts were so believable to me. I was petrified for months. No one knew because I was so afraid saying it out loud would make me sound mad. But I can look back and see it was anxiety. I don't want to assume too much but what you're describing sounds very similar. In the end, to crawl out of that mindset I sought out a lot of reassurance to tip the scales and help me see why my mind was playing tricks on me. Please be kind to yourself and try to disconnect from articles and news that might be fuelling this. Try to practice some mindfulness, even better do it outside in the lovely weather we're having. Anything to try to refocus. Hope I haven't overstepped the mark. Take care Flowers x

Lumene · 23/04/2020 22:05

This:

Conspiracy theorists always vastly overestimate what any government is actually capable of

mayoral · 23/04/2020 22:05

Erm.. 🤔

Bluntness100 · 23/04/2020 22:05

Op, it’s what it says on the tin. Calm yourself.

Lumene · 23/04/2020 22:06

I dunno, if you were going to use this as a smokescreen to disappear into a bunker then giving daily press conferences makes the quietly disappearing into your bunker part a bit tricky.

Unless your name is Boris Johnson?

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2020 22:09

But they haven't avoided mass panic. They've created it. Which is why everyone is happy to stay home.
If an asteroid were due to hit, people who understand these things could still discover this at home, via the internet etc
It would require an awful lot if people to be covering it up
Also what would be the point of building extra hospitals if there was no pandemic?
Yes some regions have said they are quiet in their hospital but others are run off their feet

I think the nightingale hospitals are for the second wave personally.

So no I don't think anything else is going on aside from the fact the government might be using it as a way to gain more power and control in legislation while they've got the opportunity

RuffleCrow · 23/04/2020 22:09

The government isn't bothered about paying money back because they know it's just 0000s on a computer screen. Just as they knew that in 2008 when the bailout went into trillions around the world through QE.

I think if an asteroid was on course to hit they'd probably just let life carry on as normal. Nothing anyone could do.

BlablablaStyle · 23/04/2020 22:11

Not likely.

It is however super odd to watch the timeline video of school closure around the world. Scroll down to Visualize evolution over time and tap on play. One billion school children and students are currently missing out on education. That's 90.2% of all students. Makes your head wobble.
