Coronavirus: Deliberately coughing on emergency workers to be punishable by two years in jail
'We will not hesitate to prosecute anybody who threatens them as they go about their vital duties,' says Director of Public Prosecutions

NettleTea · 26/03/2020 13:54

I think thats a good move on the coughing on emergency workers. Its dispicable behaviour. The woman who has been speaking at the briefings (sorry brain not in gear - Deputy health officer perhaps) said on womens hour that there was some law from back when TB was really bad that viewed it as a public health offence. although that was in reference to cyclists and runners spitting

Poor Gwent.

Lombardy governor worried at number of new cases today (2500 compared to 723 yesterday) - more than expected/hoped for. Awaiting analysis by area etc.

Horehound · 26/03/2020 14:04

People are deliberately coughing on folk?
What the fuck is wrong with them?!

Janemarpling · 26/03/2020 14:06

So they are saying that more are dying in intensive care / hospital generally who would otherwise have died in the next few weeks quietly at home in bed? Then how come th funeral places are also overloaded

And churches are being used to store bodies? It doesn't make sense to me. I understand there would be an over lap but it's a short time period too.

Andrew Neil -'Guidance, please. Is Imperial’s Neil Ferguson, whose modelling gave us the 250,000 deaths projection and led to lockdown, now saying UK deaths 'could be substantially lower' than 20,000 -- and two thirds would have died in the next 6 months anyway?'

Sky News Breaking - 'Public Health Wales says 113 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Wales bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 741.'

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 14:09

Emily Morgan - 'PHE medical director says 98% of first 386 Covid-19 deaths were in people with underlying health conditions.'

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 14:10

I found an article in IlSole24 Italian newspaper, which analyses the figures so far. As of 25/3 Covid accounted for 6% of all deaths this year in Italy. The article says that figure taken in and of itself would mean it unlikely that Covid deaths over the year would be in the top 10 of causes, BUT between the 14/3 and now, Covid as cause of death has leapfrogged from 27th place to 6th.
I'll link to the article, again, as seems the case with all countries, there's questions about how deaths are being reported.

Emily Morgan - 'At moment there are around 570 people in ITU in London with Covid19 and there are 100s more beds available throughout country.'

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 14:12

Sky News Breaking - 'Public Health Wales says six further deaths have been reported of people who had tested positive for COVID-19 taking the number of deaths in Wales to 28.'

defthand · 26/03/2020 14:12

Yes but 40% of the population have an underlying condition of some sort, and in over 60s it’s far higher. Doesn’t mean they were about to pop off.

The authorities are being very disingenuous about that one.

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 14:13

Must be more than 1k in icu nationwide with it then.

defthand · 26/03/2020 14:14

What is National ICU capacity? 4000 beds?

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 14:16

Yes but rapidly expanding.

By the sound of it some ( mostly over 70's) are dying without going to ICU even without rationing of places not quite in place.

Just saw this on Facebook. Not fixing anything for the Gwent, but it helps a little www.facebook.com/1653500028000797/posts/3458090384208410/

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 14:22

Why is newport getting more than cardiff and swansea.

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 14:31

As I said earlier, I'm isolated upstairs with my 4 year old who has a slight cough and my transplanted child is downstairs with his dad.
I've just thought about "viral load"
Am I doing him any harm him being in just one room with him (we have a bathroom too)
I can't put him anywhere else though as he can't be near his brother 😭

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 14:32

Got those who didn't see, I have suspected coronavirus

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 14:32
