Anyone know what time the press briefing is today?

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:01

I personally think if he is struggling to get relected 2020's October surprise might be air strikes on China.

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 16:01

@buttermilkwaffles That really is the big picture 😯

istherelifeafter40 · 26/03/2020 16:01

Anyone else feels angry? I am so incredibly angry. Angry about early lack of action and the herd immunity approach, angry about the lack of PPE (I actually ache for our doctors, nurses, paramedics). Angry about non-participation of the government in the EU ventilator procurement scheme. Angry about lack of tests. There are just lies, lies, lies. (That tests are around the corner, that PPE is coming. I suspect no ventilators will really be made either). Angry about the government not responding to companies offering masks, ventilators, tests.

Angry that people do and will die at home because the turn to the worse is sudden, and that's why China took symptomatic people to a special facility where they could be monitored. Or in Germany, where there is some monitoring. But not here. You have to get bad enough to be admitted, which will in some cases be too late.

It is just incredible anger. And puzzlement that lots of people think it is all ok!?!?

colouringinpro · 26/03/2020 16:02

furious here too about ventilator contracts and suspicious changes in data recording 😡

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:03

I think the goverment is preparing to shift the blame to china (including supporting any war with them) but also everyone else they can find.

SansaSnark · 26/03/2020 16:04

Just been out for a run, and there was a group of students sitting in the road (cross legged in a road albiet residential) drinking. They might all live in the same shared house, but surely that's not on (it's a stupid thing to do, regardless).

I did point out to them it was an actual road that people may still need to drive down, including ambulances, but they seemed to thing the whole thing was a bit of a joke.

I also went through the main shopping street- lots of shops seem to be doing one in one out, but this is causing big queues on the pavement where people aren't really socially distancing. And I saw quite a few family groups (both parents with young children) out.

I feel like people still don't get it in a lot of cases. I think the rules might need to be tightened to one member of the household out at any one time, with an exception made for parents and children- I don't want that to happen at all, but I don't want people to die, either.

Helenj1977 · 26/03/2020 16:04

I'm so angry Ive stopped watching the news etc.

China should have locked down. We shouldn't have faffed for so long. We should be testing more.

People laughed at me when I said I was getting ready in early Feb. When I bought masks and created corona cupboards for food. When I made them anti their hands on entering our home. When I started anti bacing deliveries. I wish they'd listened to me.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 16:04

Why did they leave things so late? Incompetence or deliberate

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:05

Cordelia Lynch - 'So here are the figures for NY from @NYGovCuomo
:
385 deaths
37,254 tested positive for #coronavirus
5,327 have been hospitalized
1,290 are in ICU
1,1517 have been discharged'

MurrayTheMonk · 26/03/2020 16:06

I'm angry. And I feel like we're still faffing. Plus I suspect the figures are being fiddled. Basically I've lost faith the in the leadership.

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:06

Only some shops have enough staff to run socially distancing outside.

istherelifeafter40 · 26/03/2020 16:07

Yes, the change in reporting deaths is very very suspicious. What int eh end differentiates this gov from an authoritarian one if they start meddling with figures, issue gagging orders to doctors and journalists and hide data?

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:08

China is like a terrified soul hoping all the providing help will prevent the usa making sure their economy is permantly destroyed or that their cites are not reduced to rubble. You can tell their fear the USA trying to take out the CCP.

Helenj1977 · 26/03/2020 16:08

@Angryrant55 Is that 24 hours worth??

Horehound · 26/03/2020 16:09

I actually don't think it's been anywhere near as bad as what we thought Confused maybe I'm being naieve

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:10

Bit of both - but it's all inrelvant when the USA can make sure China ecnomy collapses back to what it was in 1970.

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 16:10

Yes and you have to be seriously ill to get tested at present even when 111 directs you to be hospital testing area. My colleague's husband was advised to go by 111. They refused to test for Covid but did blood tests re his immunocompromised condition and then sent him home to take paracetamol. She is now very concerned that he will get into difficulty at home. Have they even got any tests left?

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:10

BNO Newsroom - 'BREAKING: Confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide surpass half a million.'

Horehound · 26/03/2020 16:12

How can trump destroy China?

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:15

Global sanctions on all trade like the USA has for Iran. Pretty hard for their economy to cope if they cant deal with the usa and their allies - britsh companies can't trade with Iran without being bared with trading with the USA.

defthand · 26/03/2020 16:16

@MurrayTheMonk

Me too. 😕

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:17

Kate McCann - 'For those asking/concerned about PHE figures on covid-19 deaths and why the number yesterday was low/why the way it is reported has changed, here is some more information:
NHS has been providing figures to PHE on covid deaths by 9am every day and PHE then publishing stats at 2pm. That was the intention. But as deaths rise it has become difficult to collate and verify the numbers in time. That has led to figures being published after the 2pm deadline. To get on top of this, PHE and NHS have decided to change the time these numbers are reported to allow more time to check they're all correct. Importantly, the way the deaths are collated has not changed, only the time. [I am still waiting to hear what the new cut off time is, and the new publishing time]. As a result, yesterday's death stats looked much lower than expected but unfortunately that was a crossover day when the times were being altered. So today the stats are likely to look far higher. To give a more accurate picture (although I appreciate this is not ideal, stats experts) the suggestion is we add up the figures from yesterday and today and then divide by two to better understand what is happening. There is also likely to be a note published later from officials to explain this formally, so that people can rest assured there is nothing funny going on with the numbers here.'

defthand · 26/03/2020 16:21

Okay, that’s what I hoped and is somewhat reassuring.

Unfortunately as we aren’t testing properly death stats are the only thing we have to go in terms of assessing proximity to peak etc.

It feels ghoulish to have to use them in this way, but it’s our only true indicator and it’s important to be able to trust those numbers.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 26/03/2020 16:21

It's not up to shop staff to facilitate social distancing outside stores.
