So with the timeline from Angryrant - I reckon we are looking at 1 million worldwide by this time next week.

georgedawes · 26/03/2020 16:57

when will today's figures be released, does anyone know?

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:57

Darren McCaffrey - 'NEW: Devastating... #coronavirus could lead to more than 80,000 deaths in the US and overwhelm hospital capacity nationally as soon as early April even if social distancing measures are respected, new research showed - reports AFP'

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 16:58

Lewis Goodall - 'I’ve spent a great deal of last 24hrs talking to people who work in call centres. Some really unpleasant stuff.
V common themes:
-employees told they’ll get no pay if they self isolate
-or have to take from annual leave
-no attempt to assist working from home/social distancing.'

Horehound · 26/03/2020 17:00

That's good re. The reporting of numbers then. I did think it didn't make sense...

Horehound · 26/03/2020 17:00

No Boris today

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 17:01

Self employed briefing today

Horehound · 26/03/2020 17:03

Ah right I thought there was to be q and a's

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 26/03/2020 17:03

I have a family member who works for a "key worker" (private business) call centre. They've been sent home on full pay til the company can figure out how they can WFH so as not to put their family at risk. So it's not all of them.

IronNeonClasp · 26/03/2020 17:05

It shouldn't take a day for one piece of gov information what a load of tosh.

Horehound · 26/03/2020 17:08

How will they ensure people won't tax dodge?!

Helenj1977 · 26/03/2020 17:08

FUCKING CHINA SHOULD HAVE CLOSED THEIR BOARDERS IN DECEMBER. NOW, THEY'RE DOING IT TO KEEP CORONAVIRUS OUT 😡😡😡

I'M SO ANGRY.

defthand · 26/03/2020 17:10

#BREAKING: Italy confirms 6153 new #coronavirus cases and 662 new deaths, raising the country's total to 80,539 with 8,165 confirmed deaths.

Big sigh.

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 17:11

ME TOO.
BUT EVERYONE THINKS A WAR WONT BE DEMANDED BY MOST PEOPLE WHO WILL WANT AN EYE FOR AN EYE. GOVERMENTS OPPOSED TO A WAR WILL SIMPLY SEE ANTI CHINESE POGROMS IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY AS PEOPLE TAKE REVENGE PERSONALLY.

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 17:11

Well deaths are down on yesterday so one small comfort.

IronNeonClasp · 26/03/2020 17:11

Helenj1977 · 26/03/2020 17:14

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 17:15

Paul Waugh - 'V strong hint from Sunak there about getting self employed to pay National Insurance? ..."we must all pay in" he says.
Remember White Van Man/Woman outcry when Hammond went down that route? And was forced to ditch it'

Oakmaiden · 26/03/2020 17:17

Shout, shout, let it all out...

Sorry. Don't know what came over me there.

GettingTooOldForThis · 26/03/2020 17:17

I have lurked on these threads since thread 1 and read this for the measured responses. It has even helped me to advise my directors in our business continuity plans.

Why are we now getting war mongering and scaremongering and capitals. Can we go back to providing sensible information and discussion please.

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 17:17

The most worrying data from Italy is the increase in infections, as it's now 16 days after total lockdown. This could of course be due to lots of testing.

Angryrant55 · 26/03/2020 17:18

Chris Choi - 'Sainsburys says “we would like customers to pay by card”. Those using cash asked to use self-service tills.'

Que lots of confused people trying and failing on the self service machines

CrapTVAddict · 26/03/2020 17:18

Are uk figures out?

Oakmaiden · 26/03/2020 17:18

Yes, it is hard to gauge because their testing may have improved. But deaths falling is far more definitive. Let's hope it is a continuing trend.
