We aren't going to lockdown tonight.

Stop scaremongering.

Maybe at the end of the week or next week. I reckon 10 days. But not tonight.

Even still, you can still go to the supermarket, pharmacy and walk the dog.

Stop scaremongering!!!! You're sending people's anxiety through the roof!

To be fair it’s all over the news and they haven’t been wrong yet

allaboardthesinkingship · 23/03/2020 19:09

It's scare mongering to say we're NOT going into lockdown! No one is taking it seriously enough! 10 days will be far too late!

HolidayArmadillo26 · 23/03/2020 19:10

Cos you know so much more than everyone else??? Yeah, ok.

mbosnz · 23/03/2020 19:10

I have to say, at this point, my rule of thumb, is that whatever Borry rules out absolutely, 24 hours later, it's 'erm, yes, well, we're now at that point'. . .

Colour me cynical. It's been done before.

Toothsil · 23/03/2020 19:10

The thing is, if they leave it a week or 10 days, people will still go out in groups, spreading it, they'll use next weekend as the "last weekend of freedom" like they did when it was announced the pubs were closing. It can't have much notice or the behaviour will get worse before it starts.

Goingunderground2 · 23/03/2020 19:10

Buyingahome - your very optimistic, it's not just the flu. Lockdown should of happened before the weekend!!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 23/03/2020 19:11

2 weeks is too late. It's already too late. We should've been on lockdown at least a week ago.

NotDisclosedToday · 23/03/2020 19:11

If nobody ever said "scaremongering" again it would be too fucking soon.

DingleberryRose · 23/03/2020 19:12

Unless you’re currently messaging from the COBRA meeting then STFU!

jayritchie · 23/03/2020 19:13

There have been, what - 3 months?, or 'stop scaremongering' posts on mumsnet. The scares the objected too have largely been real. People needed to be a bit more scared and look reality in the face.

Frigginella · 23/03/2020 19:13

I hope we are. We’re currently on target for 5000 deaths in 2 weeks time. Probably more since we have less critical care beds. It takes 2 weeks of lockdown to show the effects on deaths and number of cases. Now is absolutely the right time to lockdown. The laws have been passed today, there is a statement (not a Q&A) late in the evening to prevent further panic shopping and the army is already set for mobilisation tomorrow and has been since last week. All signs it’s happening.

kittykat7210 · 23/03/2020 19:14

As far as I’m aware in order to actually enforce lockdown they need to pass the bill that gives the government and police the ability to enforce the rules, it is coming soon but as far as I can tell it can’t be until after that bill, the bill is due to pass Wednesday or Thursday

PointlessUsername · 23/03/2020 19:14

Should do though. I live accross from a park and the last two days it has been full to the brim.

Manyminieggs · 23/03/2020 19:14

We need to be scaremongered.

Wannabangbang · 23/03/2020 19:15

Why is being locked up so scary, better than being dead. Get over yourselves. It's needed to save lives because stupid people can't follow the rules so now hopefully they'll be forced to for the greater good of the entire nation including our brave keyworkers!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 23/03/2020 19:16

Sorry I didn’t realise a MN member was in the COBRA meetings to TELL those who are speculating that a lock down is imminent Hmm

Oysterbabe · 23/03/2020 19:16

Lockdown needs to be announced then very swiftly implemented to stop all the last hurrahs. Every stupid fucker in the country will be put living it up in the sun tomorrow if he says we're locking down from the weekend for example.

GrumpyHoonMain · 23/03/2020 19:16

If we get to the stage where a lockdown is needed we will need the army in supermarkets to enforce it as well as the bill they are currently debating in parliament. If both are ready then we may get it but I doubt it

PrincessMargaret · 23/03/2020 19:16

What's scary about lock down? I have been for 10 days. It just means you can't go out for non-essential purposes, which is what most sensible people are trying to do anyway. It doesn't mean machine gun wielding soldiers at at the end of the street.

Mintjulia · 23/03/2020 19:19

If we do, think calmly, what difference will it make to you personally?
I go out once a week to get food, and I run early in the morning, every two days. I don’t see anyone when I’m out. So lockdown will make no difference. I’ll still kick a ball about with ds in the garden and wfh. So for me it’s not much of a change.

It sounds bad but is it really that much worse?

EasterEggz · 23/03/2020 19:19

It needs to happen. All the deaths caused by this weekend's stupidity on Snowdon, in Richmond Park and Tesco's will start actually happening in about 3 weeks time.

ilovecakeandwine · 23/03/2020 19:21

I hate to say it as I was one of those against a lockdown but it seams like the only logical solution. If it was a few weeks ago when the weather wasn't so good that maybe we wouldn't be having these problems . The clocks go forward at the weekend so speculating it will be before the weekend.
I hope it's not tomorrow , I hope it's a couple more days away but at the moment most places shut now or about to shut so there are less and less places for people to go .
Perhaps they could bring in rules like only 2 people out at a time together from same household as seen big groups together out , they are perhaps from the same household but who knows .
I suppose it will be difficult to enforce too but police will patrol the streets.
It's sad but the soon as we all stay home the sooner this can end .

Fartintheloft · 23/03/2020 19:21

@mbosnz this made me smile, because it is so true! 😄

kittykat7210 · 23/03/2020 19:21

Mintjulia

My worries about lockdown are whether I’ll be able to attend my growth scan on Wednesday, whether I’m allowed to drop my daughter off at her grandparents when I go into labour and if my husband will even be allowed with me to labour

MaxNormal · 23/03/2020 19:22

Scaremongering is more what you're doing saying we WON'T be locked down.
