AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

A lady who works in Waitrose told me they had over 100 people queuing for loo roll on Saturday morning. And not everyone is being polite to the staff, which is shit. None of this is their fault.

jillybeanclevertips · 16/03/2020 12:43

We have 3 bathrooms and I normally keep 6 rolls in a wicker basket in each bathroom. Today I have 14 rolls in the house, which is normal for me. The only thing I need from the shops today is dried fruit so I cn do some baking and white pepper as I'm out of it. But I will only buy one.
I always have a well stocked larder and my freezers are both full. I can't afford to panic buy anything, or the room to store stuff. Water out of the tap is fine and of I run out of TP we have a pile of old newspapers. Bring out the old wartime recipe books, they'll show us how not to waste anything. Bread and butter pudding tonight.

iusedtohavechickens · 16/03/2020 12:52

We have 12 rolls but usually go through 48 a month so really need to get some but after going to 8 different shops haven't found any!!

We go through lots as there are currently 8 of us here! Also finding it hard to get nappies 🥴

64sNewName · 16/03/2020 13:02

@roarfeckingroar Of course in this situation people are going to ask questions like that (tbh, I wouldn’t, but I think people probably should). They are absolutely within their rights to ask. And if you really did need them all for elderly relatives, you have no reason to take offence.

Your combative attitude is going to make this harder for you in the long run. People need to show a bit of mutual understanding.

Why not acknowledge it’s a reasonable question and just briefly say yes, I’m buying for vulnerable people? No need to be “curt” ffs.

lynfordthecrab · 16/03/2020 13:06

25 - but in my defence I actually won the big pack in a raffle about 3 weeks ago! That and a huge box of washing powder. I haven't actually bought any since Christmas

roarfeckingroar · 16/03/2020 13:20

@64sNewName because it's a stupid question and she was rude. Are you taking those? No, I'm carrying them around the shop before hiding them behind the French fancies....

64sNewName · 16/03/2020 13:40

It’s not stupid for someone to ask you about buying so many, when plenty of people clearly are buying far more than they need.

We all know there are panic-buyers in shops. Why wouldn’t she wonder if you might be one of them?

Whatever. I just don’t understand being so prickly, when she obviously had good grounds for asking. “Who the hell does she think she is” sounds ridiculously out of proportion to the situation, like you think you’re somehow above questioning by ordinary people.

How on earth do people manage use use 1-2 rolls per person a week? I use 1 roll every 2-3 weeks Blush and use the pressurised showerhead to rinse off if i go to the loo before i'm about to shower.

I have 11 rolls which is normal for me. A 4-pack of emergency roll because i'm forgetful and the remnants of the 9 pack I buy from Wilko every time I stock up.

Mysocalledlifexx · 16/03/2020 14:01

We have 2 big packs so thats 80 rolls from costco so will last a while but are 7 of us. We bought these before the mad rush

Chesneyhawkes1 · 16/03/2020 14:04

Been none where I live for over a week. So ordered off amazon. So now I have 45

Knowhowufeel2 · 16/03/2020 14:17

Not toilet roll, which I only buy (in bulk) twice a year, but today I tried to buy a pack of 6 500ml bottles of water, which is my usual amount, and was told they could only sell me 4, as they'd brought in a limit of 4 on everything today.

Stopping people buying 4 packs of 6 I get, but splitting up packs seems a bit ridiculous.

This was Lidl.

OriginalTaste · 16/03/2020 14:19

We've got 36 I think, my nan always buys us loads at Christmas (a weird tradition), so many we usually only have to buy a small pack in December (and I have IBD!)..
We usually all just laugh, but this year we're super grateful! Best present ever it seems!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/03/2020 14:52

selfisolate · 16/03/2020 15:29

mil was in aldi this morning anyway and saw they had bog rolls. so I now have a shiny pack of 9 + the 8 in the cupboard. I shan`t get any more. I have an awesome mil!

OneOfManyDays · 16/03/2020 15:42

Think we have an unopened pack of 9 in the downstairs cupboard... and 1 or 2 in the bathroom.

Fluffybutter · 16/03/2020 16:19

I dropped half a loo roll into a pissy toilet this morning Sad

MintySpud · 16/03/2020 16:20

That's nice, dear.

Daffie19 · 16/03/2020 16:21

We always buy a 24 pack because my DH has IBD... No stock piling here!! 😂 Just necessities.

DameSquashalot · 16/03/2020 16:43

I've got a subscription to WGAC, so around 40.

Middersweekly · 16/03/2020 18:03

I’m in Spain and we’re currently day 1 into lockdown so on Saturday morning before lockdown I bought 2 packs of 12 rolls to last 6 of us 15 days. The supermarkets are open but obviously most people are reluctantly heading out because they don’t want to get conronavirus. Despite the madness most people are being reasonable about what they’re buying.

wooo69 · 16/03/2020 18:08

We normally buy a 9 pack for 2 of us when we do the monthly shop but couldn’t get any on Saturday in Asda or Aldi. I called in Aldi at lunchtime today for grapes and they had 3 pallets of 24 packs in the aisle but no other size packs. I have bought one pack which should last us 3 months

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 16/03/2020 18:32

30 odd ish but got some half price a month ago and always stock up then

Colouringaddict · 16/03/2020 18:38

1, just DH and myself here, and he’s at work all day. Can’t find any in any shops, but we do have kitchen roll

MummyMayo1988 · 16/03/2020 18:47

4!!!
Have never bulk bought. Ever.
We are a family of 5 and go through roughly 4 a week. I'm always a pack ahead incase of upset tummies (all boys) and I'm down to the last 4 rolls.
Havent been able to get it anywhere for 2 weeks. Am starting to panic!
