AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

I only bought what I would have done and feel it is selfish people who are causing a problem in the shops - old people will have a real problem if these people continue to panic buy

billycat321 · 16/03/2020 10:24

5 plus 4 bars of soap and bottle of disinfectant

SummersMahoosiveClipOnFringe · 16/03/2020 10:27

Of all the things to focus on what is the obsession with bog rolls about?

EssexBint · 16/03/2020 10:30

There is no shortage of toilet rolls - the manufacturers have plenty of them.

Whereas normally people may buy a pack, say, once a month or every other shop everyone has now decided to buy a pack on their next shop. So with everyone buying a pack the supermarkets have not been able to adjust quickly enough to restock the shelves. Toilet rolls are bulky items and you probably only need 75/100 people each buying their normal amount to clear the shelves. It will calm down.

I have yet to see anyone in the supermarkets I have been to with more than one of the large packs - and I think if there was anyone who filled their trolley full of dozens of multi-packs the supermarket would restrict them.

But I do notice that there are a lot of bulk buyers who say that this is their normal behaviour - they have always bought in bulk every month or few months. Which is fine. I get that. It's one thing you don't have to then worry about on your food shops. So then don't call out everyone else for emulating that behaviour and also bulk buying. It's not one rule for everyone else and a different rule for yourself.

I didn’t know they did such a thing @NemophilistRebel. I shall look for one.

@FlamingoAndJohn it worked -fabulous thank you 🙏🏻

roarfeckingroar · 16/03/2020 10:52

I've just bought four packs as a delivery came in. A woman asked me if I needed them all and I gave her a curt yes and walked off. I have elderly family who need supplies as well as my own household, who the hell did she think she is.

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/03/2020 10:52

Yay!
(One word of warning though, give the veg a wide berth, poor quality)

Jaxhog · 16/03/2020 10:57

We have 6 rolls. None of our local supermarkets has any so we're going to be rationing use. If you have lots, for goodness sake give some to your elderly neighbours. It's utterly selfish to hang onto them.

Jaxhog · 16/03/2020 10:59

Ditto: long life milk (price now at least doubled) and eggs (none in our shops).

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 16/03/2020 11:00

I currently have 10 loo rolls, I usually buy 2 x 9 packs of tesco coconut oil ones but only 4 packs were available. DH got 2 packs on Thursday and I had 4 left already in the loo, but used 2 over the weekend.

I've got 1 bottle bleach, have ordered anti-bac 'drops' from Ocean Saver as can't get dettol anywhere, I have plenty other cleaning products if all else fails, usual stock of laundry products and my freezers/cupboards are always well stocked on a month to month basis anyway. Only thing I couldn't get for the cupboard was tinned tomatoes.

I just don't understand the sheer lunacy of it. Babies left without nappies, wipes and milk and elderly left unable to buy loo roll 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ this world has me wondering what the hell is to come.

starrysimon · 16/03/2020 11:05

6 (two bathrooms and 3 people in the house), had a 9 pack but dropped one down the toilet when changing the empty😂

The only cleaning products I have are 1 bottle of Dettol Anti-Bacterial Spray, 1/2 a pack of Flash wipes, 1/2 Tesco brand anti-bac wipes, 3/4 bottle of Zoflora and 4 Minky sponges

2 packets of microwave rice, 500g of whole wheat pasta, 500g of macaroni, 2 tins of chopped tomatoes and various beans. I’m not very prepared as you can tell! But I don’t think I need to be

CrisisCrunchie · 16/03/2020 11:15

30, a new 24 pack I got in my delivery yesterday (buy this about once a month) & 6 left from the previous pack

I always have plenty anti-bac sprays etc as I have 3 dogs

Joanna1232 · 16/03/2020 11:25

None and no shop for miles has any. Really selfish of people.

speakout · 16/03/2020 11:29

I have around 50.
But if you had asked me a year ago the number would have also been 50.
I haven't been buying any more than usual.

Shockers · 16/03/2020 11:34

@roarfeckingroar- were there some left for her?

Shinyletsbebadguys · 16/03/2020 11:37

8 , family of four and its from our normal shop a few weeks ago. I don't think I've bought much extra , oh no I bought an extRa 6 eggs from Marks but they had a whole shelf full when sainsburys didn't have an egg in the place and we eat a huge amount of eggs.

We have suspected here with ds1 who has had a high temp and recurring new cough so isolating for 7 days (111 advised ) . We will actually isolate for 2 weeks minimum as DP and I work in relation to elderly vulnerable people but I haven't stockpiled and I have generally enough in the house to keep us going. I have a packet of pasta and only the DC eat it. I'm q bit surprised at people needing big packets of pasta x 3 for example as itll take DC a month at least to get through the pack we have.

If you are elderly and vulnerable I totally understand because the isolation level will be longer but I am amazed at the selfishness of quite a lot of people to be honest.

evilharpy · 16/03/2020 11:52

Loads because I bought a 16 pack when we were running low, but my husband also bought a 16 pack because he also saw we were running out and didn't know I was buying them. Plus about 3 rolls left from the previous pack. There are only 3 of us, it'll take us months to go through it all. But would happily give some to friends or neighbours in need.

We have a bottle or two of bleach, most of a bottle of kitchen cleaner, a couple of bottles of liquid handwash and lots of bar soap from a sample sale at husband's work about a year ago that we haven't used up. We could do with a new tube of toothpaste.

Once again Milk and More might be able to help.
Milk; obviously, cheese, tea bags, cleaning products, bread also.
I don’t work for them I promise. Just trying to help people out.
Here is my code for £5 RPW8Z7

AlmostAJillSandwich · 16/03/2020 12:19

2 of the big home bargains nearish to me had loo roll deliveries today, all gone by 9:30, plenty of people buying more than one 18 pack, they weren't restricting it at all.

contentedsoul · 16/03/2020 12:29

We should begin uploading videos onto social media of all these selfish greedy bastards.

People have long memories
