AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

  1. I'm signed off work with severe anxiety and depression so on universal credits. I do a big ish shop once a month when my payment goes in.has to last us the month. I'm currently really poorly and panicking about being able to get to the shop.a s if there will be any left if/when I make it there.having my daughter looked after by my mum
ShiftyOwl · 16/03/2020 23:44

I’m actually quite embarrassed to admit that we have about 40 rolls in, there are only 2 of us.
I bought our last loo rolls about 3 weeks ago, yes, I had been stockpiling but had not idea that this was going to happen. OH has had diarrhoea for 2 months and the most bouts has been 17 in a day.
He’s currently undergoing tests which include bowel cancer.
If we were to run out it would be horrendous.

Angharad07 · 16/03/2020 23:46

None. We’re using kitchen roll because I can’t bloody find any anywhere.

Angharad07 · 16/03/2020 23:49

Also, no meat, pasta, bread or frozen stuff in our Lidl tonight

ALongHardWinter · 17/03/2020 01:10

I have 6 at the moment. But only because my Dd managed to get me some. Quick query - are shops (like the big stores,Asda,Tesco's etc) allowed to hike the prices of goods? My Dd said she saw a 9 pack of Andrex in Asda for £8.75!

Idontkowmyname · 17/03/2020 01:14

@TheHoundOfWinchester you mentioned having to buy tissues, they can’t be flushed. The last thing you need at a time like this is a plumbing emergency.
Apologies if someone has already mentioned this I’ve not read the full thread(sorry).

If you have to use anything other than toilet roll, bin it don't flush it

HeronLanyon · 17/03/2020 05:26

Agree fully with ‘don’t flush tissues/kitchen roll/paper napkins etc’ from experience !
Whilst we are all binning the stuff we could dig out and apply some suncream and the combo of binning and smelling (!) could possibly transport us to happier holiday realities?

Justploddingon · 17/03/2020 08:06

4 and a half, family of 6 😏

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/03/2020 08:55

There was loo roll in Aldi this morning (although already a queue of about 50 people there well before opening time). I got a 24 pack and will give some to DSibling. Absolutely no hand-sanitiser (or liquid soap) to be seen for love or money. No pasta, no rice, no flour, no butter, very few tinned goods.

The girl on the till (very friendly) was saying that she thinks all the shops should introduce an elders hour everyday. Think it's a really good idea that I know Iceland are rolling out already.

RiftGibbon · 17/03/2020 08:59

All local shops are sold out. All nearest shops within driving distance are sold out.
I have 2 left. Bought j cloths which can be used and washed in an emergency and have some baby wipes which can be used and binned.

contentedsoul · 17/03/2020 09:26

Last night we were down to 1
Just had text from partner - has managed to get 48!!
God only knows how.
Thing is it’s bread I want...can’t eat loo roll

thistimeofyear · 17/03/2020 10:46

Try the little corner shops/newsagents mine is brilliant and is rationing loo rolls. There wouldn’t be a shortage if everyone calmed down a bit. I agree I think supermarkets should have an oldies hour

Nearly47 · 17/03/2020 11:43

6 rolls left. Avoiding supermarkets at the moment. The craziness makes me anxious but will have to go eventually Sad

Xenia · 17/03/2020 13:04

A few chains are having an early hour for the elderly eg I think Iceland is doing this www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51906744

HeronLanyon · 17/03/2020 13:07

I totally agree smaller local no parking shops are generally bloody great right now. I have several close to me. No price hikes. Sensible rationing of some things and good availability generally.

HeronLanyon · 17/03/2020 13:11

I’m support for two elderly neighbours who has this am asked if I could get her some loo roll (Grin wish she had said this when I first offered help 2 weeks ago!).

Anyway it took me back to when I was a kid (older kid but still) buying cigarettes - all we had to say was we were buying them for our mum. No questions. Wonder if I could get a note from my neighbour to cover my presence during elderly period ???
This is in jest. Hmmm.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/03/2020 16:20

Our village shop is great - they are rationing everything and as they know everyone so well you cant buy a bag of pasta and then go back later and buy another one!

On the other hand, the corner shop near my office was selling the small bottles of hand gel for £10 each yesterday when they were 99p two weeks ago.

DimplesToadfoot · 18/03/2020 23:22

I use torn up loo roll for my hamsters bedding. I've just cleaned him out and sorted out the box I keep his stuff in and found 3 part used loo rolls, I did chuckle ... wonder whether I should put the hamster on rations lol

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/03/2020 23:38

I had stitches after giving birth and so was using water until recently. So we have a lot of loo roll left as we only get it for me - DH uses water.

Restorergirl · 19/03/2020 00:03

We have 6 in the cupboard and one on the roll, for three of us in the household (but one never uses toilet roll.................say no more).

SerenDippitty · 19/03/2020 11:19

If worst comes to worst we are going to cut up old towels and keep a bucket of bleach in the bathroom.

Nanamilly · 19/03/2020 17:27

f worst comes to worst we are going to cut up old towels and keep a bucket of bleach in the bathroom

Fill a squeezable bottle with water and aim it at your bottom before drying off with your small towels.

speakout · 19/03/2020 18:23

Why are loo rolls so important?

I lived in rural Indonesia for a while. I didn't use a single sheet of loo roll for a year.
