Coronavirus Shopping

Is anyone stock piling yet for coronavirus. I got a few bottles of Calpol this afternoon and some ibuprofen but wondering if I should stock kitchen cupboards. Daily Mail is getting me into a panic !!

You should probably stop reading the daily mail not just because of its fear lingering for coronavirus.

No bloody hand gel anywhere all sold out. I got some extra meds today just in case but that’s all.

I was talking to a Biochemist today and he said the hand gels are useless and people should concentrate on washing their hands. Once I stopped and thought about it I realised of course it's in the name - antibacterial gel - covid-19 is a virus!!!!

Honestly, the papers are feeding us complete nonsense.

I've got plenty of handwash etc but will be buying some more cupboard food on the off chance we have to self isolate. DSs best friend has just come back from Italy over half term and they have now self isolated so I'm just preparing.

Soap. Loo roll. Tinned food. Pasta. Gin. Tea bags. Long life milk. Chocolate. Paracetamol. Flour. Eggs. Yeast. Anything you can't live without for two weeks just in case you get ill or need to self isolate.
Honestly, it's just good sense. I was poorly a couple of weeks ago but already had everything I needed to last me and the kids for a few days.

Not based on daily mail but I’m going to buy a few extra’s. Got some long life milk for my tea yesterday, 6L cartons! I’m going to buy some extra bread for freezer and more pasta. We have had to stop people returning to work from holiday, and they are in self quarantine. I really do feel that it might be possible that people might need to self quarantine. I work in a public building which has people from all over the world, already we have had someone be admitted for testing. If positive then building will be closed

I’m a single parent so stocked up with a few things today in case we need to self isolate. Tinned soup/ pasta/ beans/ tinned fruit , pasta, dried noodles and rice, part baked rolls/‘long life wraps, long life milk, pasta sauces, biscuits (of course!) and a few other bits and pieces. I’ll get some freezer stuff another day. I’m not a worrier but I just want to have a small stockpile in a self isolate situation. If it comes to nothing then there’s nothing I wouldn’t use anyway so nothing will go to waste.

Oh and coffee of course!

Ok I’m going to get some extra bits like pasta tomorrow it will get eaten regardless.

Imagine, the panic that encourages stockpiling is what some people in poverty live with every day. The worry that you won't be able to feed yourself or your family.

I'm so confused, why are people doing this?
You're more at risk of the flu than coronavirus.
Even if you have to self isolate then someone can drop shopping off on your doorstep, the media is making people so scared.
Lets all be sensible here

I was thinking about this today.
It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that a town might become quarantined. Then nothing would be able to come in or go out. Panic buying would ensue and there would be nothing in the shops.
Equally, you might be in a situation where you need to self isolate for two weeks. This isn’t so bad because online deliveries could still drop it on the doorstep or friends could help out. But I’m willing to be if there is a case in your town that panic buying will happen.

As it is, I’ve always got at least two weeks worth of food in the house. I use non dairy milk and the milk man brings the bread (I know).
So I’ll not be panic buying.

@Darbs76 once opened they only last for a few weeks though, from what I understand? Will buy some myself though.

OH and I bought 12 bottles of Corona beer in our coop-they were on special offer.

It seems never ending this siege mentality. Stocking piling for Brexit, stockpiling for corona virus.
Starting to think Brexit and covid 19 was invented by Unilever or whoever makes pot noodles.

I’ve been buying a few extra bits for weeks now. Dried milk, big bags of pasta and rice, lots of tinned stuff, extra frozen bits etc. Even got 90 loo rolls off Groupon delivered yesterday!! Everyone thinks I’m mad but at the end of the day it’s all stuff we use anyhow so it won’t go to waste.

We have ds's meds in, and food/supplies in case we have to stay in for 2 weeks. Made sure my mums feezer is full. We always have a hospital grab bag because ds's complex needs has meant a few emergency trips.

Dh's work went through a coronavirus protocol that included the possibility of closure and discussed home quarantines, so it seemed sensible.

Don’t panic, just be sensible. I bought some meds today, just the very basics if we do get colds/flu. More of the laundry detergent I like because I’m low and like my brand and they often sell out of the unscented. Unscented hand soap too as well for the same reason. Hand wipes only because we are flying and I want them for the plane. Unscented hand gel because I don’t like the fragrance in the scented ones. I have a large pantry and freezer so I always have several weeks of food (more like several months truth be told). Use common sense and it will be ok.
