Is anyone stock piling yet for coronavirus. I got a few bottles of Calpol this afternoon and some ibuprofen but wondering if I should stock kitchen cupboards. Daily Mail is getting me into a panic !!

Pet food!

BIWI · 01/03/2020 20:48

@Doginahat

Oh if only you could get gin on prescription! Grin

FlamingoAndJohn · 01/03/2020 20:54

I always have two weeks worth of food in stock.
I grew up out in the sticks and we were forever getting cut off by floods or snowed in. My mum always has stacks of food and so do I.

alloutoffucks · 01/03/2020 21:05

@SusanneLinder I have never heard of anyone shopping fortnightly. What about fresh fruit and veg?

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2020 21:30

I went to the Cash and Carry. There was lots of stock in stock. Grin

Got a box of cider, box of beer, some J20s, and a huge bottle of Fabric Conditioner. Oh and a box of Caramel Eggs.

I am all set.

Tried to buy alcohol hand gel sanitiser today and was completely sold out at local supermarkets. Managed to get some that had 65%+ alcohol online for a reasonable price (£4.99 for 500ml) although it has a delayed delivery of roughly 9 days due to high demand. I will dispense into little travel bottles as DS and I use public transport a lot and DP travels to Europe at least 5 times per month with work. I know regular hand washing is ok when at home and hand gel is quite drying so will only use when out and about.

DD's law firm in London had an email from facilities dept on Friday telling all colleagues to stop appropriating sanitiser supplies from communal areas.

Georgiesmummy · 02/03/2020 04:08

Well, yes, it kind of is...

BlackCatSleeping · 02/03/2020 04:20

I'm in Japan. People have been stockpiling toilet paper, san pro, wet wipes, tissues, bottled water, rice, instant noodles, medications. Masks and hand sanitiser are sold out everywhere. There is no need to stockpile, but people are panicking and now shops are sold out of many of these items, so those who didn't stockpile can't buy toilet paper or san pro anywhere. It's a weird situation. A lot of events have been cancelled or scaled back. No one knows what will happen.

Toomanygerbils · 02/03/2020 04:22

Anyone else read the title as in someone was shopping for the Coronavirus? Was about to advise a lovely buy one get one free deal in China 😂

Whichoneofyoudidthat · 02/03/2020 05:30

@blackcatsleeping I'm in Hong Kong and it was unbearable a couple of weeks ago....everything selling out - mainly toilet paper!. People have calmed down a bit now and it all appears back to normal thank goodness. Hopefully the madness won't last.

annamie · 02/03/2020 13:23

All normal in London, no empty shelves, no sold out hand sanitiser, no one wearing masks. I bloody love Londoners.

BIWI · 02/03/2020 13:49

Well in my part of London there are empty shelves! No hand sanitiser anywhere (Sainsbury, Waitrose, Aldi, Boots, M&S, Superdrug). Shelves of ibuprofen/paracetamol not quite empty but pretty decimated, along with shelves of rice, I noticed this morning.

Not quite sure why you would think Londoners are any different (and your implication better) than anyone from anywhere else in the country @annamie?

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 14:28

Same here. Im not in London but both my DSil and my friend reported that they can't get 60% + hand sanitiser. Both live in central London

annamie · 02/03/2020 14:44

I don't think they're any better but apart from my workplace putting in measures, day to day people are just not phased by this at all.

My concern is for my elderly mum, none for the rest of the family.

annamie · 02/03/2020 14:45

*fazed

MichaelMumsnet · 02/03/2020 14:57

Hi all. We have a new Coronavirus section and we'll be moving a few relevant topics into it (including this one) over the next few days.

goingoverground · 02/03/2020 15:09

@annamie Definitely not normal in central London. No generic painkillers, dried pasta, noodles, tinned tomatoes/beans/lentils in my 2 local supermarkets this weekend, except Waitrose still had shelves full of baked beans, despite being on special offer, which amused me slightly that obviously they weren't posh enough when panic buying for a pandemic. It's not like the supermarkets aren't restocking though, it was worse when we had a tiny bit of snow last year and deliveries were disrupted. Plenty of face masks being worn too.

KoalasandRabbit · 02/03/2020 16:28

We are fairly rural and supermarkets fully stocked, easy to avoid crowded places here.

MarshaBradyo · 02/03/2020 17:32

I know this is trivial but it’s bugging me. I got some Carex hand gel but it does not state % of alcohol.

I see in their IG they do not answer this question.

Anyone know? It’s for the ‘fun’ type only one I could get.

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 17:37

I know this is trivial but it’s bugging me. I got some Carex hand gel but it does not state % of alcohol.

Both the standard one and the aloe vera one are 70% ethanol but you're right there doesn't seem to be the same information about the fun one. I'd assume therefore that it isn't high enough.

MarshaBradyo · 02/03/2020 17:38

Thanks Hasa

I got it on Amazon where it had all the info about killing viruses but it occurred to me it could be anyone writing that since the bottle doesn’t have the info.

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 17:38

Oh hang on. Their own website says its 70%

MarshaBradyo · 02/03/2020 17:43

Oh it does I looked and missed it! Confused
Thanks

Yep love hearts is 70%

FlamingoAndJohn · 02/03/2020 17:46

Well I just went to Aldi expecting there to be nothing left and it was like normal.
No hand gel or anti bac soap but plenty of regular soap.

Oysterbabe · 02/03/2020 20:14

Just got my tesco order and the only difference was a lot of basic brand tins I'd ordered had been upgraded to the tesco brand. Nothing missing. I'm self isolation ready now.
