Is anyone stock piling yet for coronavirus. I got a few bottles of Calpol this afternoon and some ibuprofen but wondering if I should stock kitchen cupboards. Daily Mail is getting me into a panic !!

datasgingercatspot · 28/02/2020 22:07

It's not pneumonic plague. Hmm

FunnysInLaJardin · 28/02/2020 22:09

no although I have 3 freezers that are always well stocked as we live in the sticks. Always have a weeks worth of bread and milk in the freezer and easily enough for 2 weeks food. Also have plenty of meds for that reason

Willow2017 · 28/02/2020 22:10

they’re not of course but you don’t usually spend 15 mins in close contact with your delivery driver.
Are you being deliberately obtuse?
They cant deliver if they have it themselves though can they?
They cant deliver if thier JIT stock system runs out if they cannot get supplies in.

londonrach · 28/02/2020 22:11

@elizabethdraper. Line...😳😜😝😝😝😝😝. Took me a few minutes to read it rather than limes but not stopped laughing since especially as another mumetters offered you paracetamol to get with it and your gin. Thank you needed a laugh xxx

@RippleEffects
In my opinion it's reasonable to have enough to last a family for two weeks without any trips to the shops. Some people are stockpiling enough for 6 months or more, which seems unnecessary. I think that's more about reducing anxiety really and probably not very healthy.

Snowdropdelight · 28/02/2020 22:12

Hilarious this is life reflecting itself, a major daily mail article was based on mumsnet prepping 😂

donkir · 28/02/2020 22:14

This picture pretty much sums up my view on this.
Stop reading the daily mail!

Coronavirus Shopping
Sparklingbrook · 28/02/2020 22:14

Won't someone think of the supermarket pickers? The delivery drivers can't deliver if the pickers have all self isolated. Shock

Youngatheart00 · 28/02/2020 22:15

Prep, or don’t prep, fine with me. Isolate or don’t isolate, no problem.

BUT PLEASE STOP READING THE DAILY MAIL

Blankiefan · 28/02/2020 22:15

Our Tesco was almost out of paracetomal tonight.

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 28/02/2020 22:19

Your work are kidding themselves. And you.

They were repeating advice that came through from the NHS and I’m just telling you what they said! No need to snap at me.

Dailyjunglegrind · 28/02/2020 22:22

@iVampire
The hand sanitisation disappearance is real. Sainsburys, ocado, waitrose all have vacancy signs up on those shelves. And that was two weeks ago..asked a shop assistance the next expected delivery, he exclaimed the sanitiser has been sold out for weeks. No idea next expected delivery... its a sign uk supplies are being diverted elsewhere ..

Key essentials in our house, coffee beans, alcohol, decent peanut butter, selection of decent canned goods, snacks
, sauces & bathroom essentials...

bellinisurge · 28/02/2020 22:23

I apologise for snapping at you. I'm just fed up of the naivety. Why should it end up different here than in Italy?

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2020 22:23

I heard they've run out of hand sanitizer in Switzerland. People are bringing it in from France.

BIWI · 28/02/2020 22:23

It doesn't do any harm to make sure you have plenty of stuff in your cupboards/freezer - as well as medicines. But otherwise, no need to panic buy stuff. except for gin and tonic water

Snowdropdelight · 28/02/2020 22:25

Bell I agree.

Things can change very swiftly.
Alcohol gel today, everything else runout tomorrow!

Sparklingbrook · 28/02/2020 22:26

If everyone is out there panic buying then stocks will run out.

dustibooks · 28/02/2020 22:27

I bought three tins of soup today. Does that count?

HasaDigaEebowai · 28/02/2020 22:27

The close proximity for 15 minutes thing has been debunked now. It’s passed mainly through droplets eg coughs sneezes etc plus touch and transmission via surfaces and some fecal transmission. There is not thought to be massive aerosol risk (ie it’s not typically just floating about). But the 15 minutes contact is not necessary for transmission. It can be one cough

Juliehooligan · 28/02/2020 22:28

I bought extra hand gel as I work with children and are always full of snot n stuff.

bellinisurge · 28/02/2020 22:28

"If everyone is out there panic buying then stocks will run out."
Maybe people should have started earlier. Slowly.

everythingisginandroses · 28/02/2020 22:28

Fuck the Daily Mail.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 28/02/2020 22:28

I'm going to but some nice underwear and posh PJ's - just in case I'm rushed into hospital. Oh and a big bar of galaxy of course.

Sparklingbrook · 28/02/2020 22:30

Yes the panic buying could have been incorporated into the Christmas food shop had we known. Grin

Itsnotalwaysfair · 28/02/2020 22:31

We usually have hardly any tinned or long life food at all but I do now have about 2 weeks worth in so we can stay at home if we're unwell. And im thinking this seems sensible for any sickness or emergency eventuality. We're surrounded by older people and our parents are also frail so we really need to be prepared to sit at home and not infect anyone.
