Is anyone stock piling yet for coronavirus. I got a few bottles of Calpol this afternoon and some ibuprofen but wondering if I should stock kitchen cupboards. Daily Mail is getting me into a panic !!

GoodDog are you referring to long life milk? Once open, great as fresh. But you won’t open every carton at once...
It’s disgusting, though, so there’s that.

Inextremis · 28/02/2020 21:44

I looked at my pantry shelves today, and realised we'd be fine for a couple of weeks so long as we were happy to live on risotto and various fruits preserved in alcohol :) If push came to shove, there's shedloads of passata, tinned tomatoes, tinned apples and cherries, sweetcorn, various types of beans, a load of lentils and three sacks of potatoes in there too. Also flour, yeast etc for making bread. The only shoping I've done as a precaution is to stock up on paracetamol and ibuprofen - the rest is just situation normal for me, being a bit of a food hoarder.

puds11 · 28/02/2020 21:45

Is it still scaremongering when schools are closing and other schools are sending out justification for staying open and when you should not go in?

I’m not 100% convinced by the ‘it’s just scaremongering’ any more. I imagine whatever the Daily Mail have reported will be, as that’s all they do, but in general I think people do need to take better precautions. I think hand sanitiser and face masks are a load of bollocks though.

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 28/02/2020 21:47

We got a memo around work today about what to do if you need to self-isolate and it said grocery deliveries are fine, as is having friends and family drop off groceries. You don’t need to hermetically seal yourself inside for two weeks.

elizabethdraper · 28/02/2020 21:47

I bought a bottle gin, brandy and some beer.

2 multi packs of crisps

Mixers

Lines
Nuts.

I am sorted now, come what may

shortytrekker · 28/02/2020 21:48

Supermarkets will still deliver though...🤷🏻‍♀️

bellinisurge · 28/02/2020 21:49

Why are supermarket drivers immune? Did I miss something?

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 28/02/2020 21:49

You really are planning a party elizabethdraper Grin

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 28/02/2020 21:50

bellinisurge they’re not of course but you don’t usually spend 15 mins in close contact with your delivery driver.

puds11 · 28/02/2020 21:51

@elizabethdraper you may want some paracetamol for the day after your lines Grin

Sparklingbrook · 28/02/2020 21:52

Well I am not convinced. Don't fancy two weeks of eating pasta and drinking long life milk either.

I do have a stash of biscuits and chocolates from Christmas in the loft though and plenty of alcohol.

bellinisurge · 28/02/2020 21:53

What meant was do you think delivery drivers don't have kids at school that shut. Or don't have to go into self isolation. Why do you think delivery services will remain fully staffed? Very naive.

elizabethdraper · 28/02/2020 21:53

LIMES goddam autocorrectGrin

iVampire · 28/02/2020 21:54

I’m pissed off by the disappearance of sanitising gel,

We have a new puppy and I am dealing with so much poo and piddle (sometimes in odd places) that I could really do with several small bottles to keep in pockets and round the house.

Finding it really hard to get any

TankGirl97 · 28/02/2020 21:58

I've got enough food/Calpol/paracetamol/loo roll for at least a couple weeks. Food cupboards and freezer are full. Not so much for a quarantine but just in case we're ill at the same time as kids as need to hunker down. We are rural so it's more effort to pop to the shops. I do generally like 'homesteading' though so it's not a leap for me.

I'm not getting masks or anything.

bellinisurge · 28/02/2020 21:59

"We got a memo around work today about what to do if you need to self-isolate and it said grocery deliveries are fine, as is having friends and family drop off groceries. You don’t need to hermetically seal yourself inside for two weeks."
Ridiculous. Why would delivery services remain fully staffed? Why would supermarkets insist their staff drive into areas that have been designated as quarantine areas - which has happened in Italy.
Your work are kidding themselves. And you.

FlamingoAndJohn · 28/02/2020 21:59

Why are supermarket drivers immune? Did I miss something?

I seem to recall that you have to be in close proximity to someone for about 15 minutes for it to be a problem.

PlomBear · 28/02/2020 21:59

Sainsburys was almost out of Easter eggs earlier.

IceniSky · 28/02/2020 22:02

I always have enough in to see us through a number of weeks. I work in a sector whereby I understand how dependent we are on technology to provide our basic needs, and how easy it us to take this out.

slartibarti · 28/02/2020 22:02

Now Ocado is encouraging panic buying.
I had an email saying delivery slots are filling up quickly with unusually large orders and suggesting I book next delivery a few days in advance.

puds11 · 28/02/2020 22:03

@PlomBear the one near me was floor to ceiling Easter eggs Shock Bloody loads of the things. First year of lactose intolerance so was a particularly hard aisle for me SadGrin

By immune, I meant immune to having to go into self isolation themselves. Or their kids at school. Supermarkets may well be short of delivery drivers.

user127819 · 28/02/2020 22:04

I wouldn't say I'm stock piling, but I'm buying a few extra bits here and there in case I can't go out for a couple of weeks.

RippleEffects · 28/02/2020 22:06

DH asked me to get a few extra bits, he's a worrier, so I got a Terrys chocolate orange and some Lidl marzipan Easter eggs for DS1.

I keep a reasonable amount of pasta, rice, noodles, passatta, soup, flour, frozen meat, tinned and frozen veg, long life milk. Plus we stockpile toilet roll when ever it's on a good offer so our stores are okay.

I wondered around thinking what else should I get but it felt wasteful to buy much more than we keep in rotation.

How much prep is reasonable?

londonrach · 28/02/2020 22:06

Love @RocketFire stockpile...new pjs. Im going to buy pasta tomorrow as we just run out as need some!
