I’m watching an Emirates flight from Seattle circling around trying to land. Sky News are reporting that the sirens have gone off.

There’s been missile alerts in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and a couple of other emirates this evening.

I hate Trump, but it's Iran firing drones and missiles. Throwing a tantrum because US ships are in the Strait.

Overtheatlantic · 04/05/2026 17:11

Hmmmm I guess that’s one way of looking at the situation…

Overtheatlantic · 04/05/2026 17:11

Looks like they’re landing in Muscat.

And why are they doing that??

FUDJTFOTTFEOF · 04/05/2026 17:22

EK8 from London to Dubai is around Muscat. They must all be being diverted.

Are you sure the US didn't violate the ceasefire first?

FUDJTFOTTFEOF · 04/05/2026 17:23

And are you sure Trump didn’t start all this in February. FA and FO.

OP posts:
logicisall · 04/05/2026 17:24

From the BBC.

We've now had further comment from the Iranian military.
It says the Iranian Army Navy "issued a warning and fired warning shots along the route of the hostile enemy destroyers".
The Iranian military says US destroyers turned off their radars before approaching the strait, and were "detected immediately" after reactivating them.
The destroyers then received a radio warning from the Navy "regarding the dangers of violating the ceasefire", the Iranian military adds.
Another "explicit warning" was sent to the destroyer, according to the Iranian military, saying that "any attempt to enter the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of the ceasefire and would be met with a response from naval forces".
It says warning shots were fired after the Americans "disregarded" the warning.

Obviously yes. Rudeness not necessary.

GentleSheep · 04/05/2026 17:40

Iran kicked this round off today. Have attacked the UAE and also 2 British ships and had 6 small boats trying to attack various ships in the Strait (but the US neutralised those). The UAE will likely strike back, they've said they will. Am getting this from Tousi TV so if you can't find it yet on the MSM it'll turn up there later.

I was referring to Trump who fcked around and found out. It wasn’t directed at you.

Sky News has a different take on events. Mostly around that as it's breaking news and both the US and Iran need to promote their own propaganda, no one knows yet, what has actually happened/continuing to happen.
I'm happy to be corrected, but i didn't get the impression, after a quick bit of research, that an influencer owned channel was the height of impartiality and probity for news.

RudolphTheReindeer · 04/05/2026 18:23

The UAE will strike back? That's rather worrying?

That was probably tousi news.

The UAE's foreign ministry said in a statement on X.
the UAE reserves the right to respond in a way that protects its sovereignty and security.

Which isn't exactly The UAE will likely strike back, they've said they will.

Well, I agree you're partly right, because Tousi is biased, very pro-Trump. However, he does have contacts in Iran and is getting information from there faster than other outlets. So it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. I do watch him to get one view, but not the only view of what's going on.

Stirabout · 04/05/2026 19:05

Tousi is heavily biased and
pro Israeli

wiki and Reuters

‘ Mahyar Tousi's news coverage (Tousi TV) is generally considered to be heavily biased rather than a neutral, objective news source, a point acknowledged by the creator himself. 1]
Based on user reports and analysis of his content, here is a breakdown of the bias and style:
Political Leanings: Tousi is upfront about his conservative politics and Pro-Israel views, particularly concerning Iran and Middle Eastern affairs. He was previously active in UK Conservative party politics.1, 2]
Style and Purpose: His channel operates more as a "new media" opinion and commentary platform, aimed at providing an alternative to mainstream media (which he criticizes as having a left-wing bias).1]
Transparency over Impartiality: Tousi has stated that in 2025/2026, he believes true impartiality is not possible, and instead, focus should be on being objective while being transparent about one's, or the creator's, bias. 1]
Audience: His content is popular among those seeking, as one review describes it, "raw" and "unapologetic" commentary that opposes the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran. 1]

Tousi TV is identified by the Reuters Institute as one of the prominent right-leaning pro Israel, pro Trump news creators in the UK. 1]’

So. Heavily Biased

Yep, I don't deny that. Which is why I frequent several news sources and also some geopolitical analysts. Always good to get all-round views.

Agenda Free TV is worth following as Steve Lookner just presents what is going on and makes sure, as much as possible, that what he's reporting is real and not misinformation.

Being pro Trump & pro Israel, his contacts will most likely be the same, or feeding him what they think he wants to hear for his news channel. Wanting to be the first with news is no guarantee for accuracy.
It's always best to engage with extremes at arms length while using a healthy dose of skepticism.
