Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

Forced Regime change by US may not be possible in the way it was in Afghanistan (and even there it did not stay permanent).

Given that Iran is 90 million people right and huge in land mass - only the people can overthrow the government there?

I might not know what I am talking about .....

@Twiglets1 I’m sorry I see you are asking what I think about people who cheer on the murder and rape of others? I feel the same as I do about those cheering on the bombing of others or who fawn and pander to those who commit these crimes be they presidents, royalty, soldiers, civilians or MNetters. It’s disgusting. We are human beings and we DO know right from wrong. Every life deserves safety and dignity and rape and murder are never ok.

I have a sad feeling the world is not going to apply that last line to Iranian women shortly. People will forget, maybe be happy it’s ‘over’ but Iranians will be stuck with a brutal regime.

TomeTome · 10/03/2026 13:07

@EasternStandard bombing does not help women anywhere. It doesn’t help anything.

CharlotteRumpling · 10/03/2026 13:10

Forced regime change has never worked in a country as large and as complex as Iran, with an endless supply of mullahs. Even Trump has walked back on this.

Dead women are not better off than women in burkhas.

I hope every American ends up having to cut down on their 4 cars per person. That may motivate them into not voting for warmongers. Though I doubt it.

I expect Trump thought the war would be over in a week rather than cutting off oil.

What should Iranians do? What is your advice to them.

Men who rape and murder are rapists and murderers. It doesn’t matter if they are Hamas, IDF or Americans. Is that what you are asking?

Deleted as wrong thread.

Hegseth has said he will rain "death and destruction" all day long. Are Iranian people going to be better off with carpetbombing? Is that saving women?

Hopefully @notimagainwill respond to this as they’re more informed.

It’s still not an answer, what can the people there do?

Dreaming of living in a free land.

Will cheering Hamas terrorists who raped and murdered civilians help them achieve that? No.

No I wasn't talking about Hamas.

I was talking about Palestinians who cheered on Hamas.

I don't assume all Palestinians in Gaza support Hamas though some do. But you seem to blame all Israelis for the actions of their government/IDF because you said "we see the Israelis for what they are".

I see those who support Hamas for who they are.

Squirrelandnuts · 10/03/2026 14:33

Twiglets1 · 10/03/2026 10:46

You said "you are what you do".

If that's true, what are the Palestinians who celebrated 7/10/23?

Many Palestinians (most not involved in the atrocity) are most likely dead, injured or displaced now.

As will many Iranians be in this 'war for regime change'.

I was asking for TTs opinion on the actions of those Palestinians who cheered the rape and murder of civilians on 7/10/23.

They have since confirmed they find such actions disgusting so we find something we can agree on.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for Hamas supporters but I do sympathise with ordinary Palestinian civilians and Iranians caught up in war.

Unfortunately, Iranian civilians were being killed by the thousands in recent months by their own leaders so I don't know what is more dangerous for them - being at war or not.

Very much hope this war hastens a change of regime for them, even if it doesn't happen immediately.

Portakalkedi · 10/03/2026 14:49

Saw a headline this morning that said his son Barron had invested $50 million in oil stocks (I think, wasn't really looking at the details) the day before this 'war' started. Funny that. What a shower of absolute scumbags this family is.

Echobelly · 10/03/2026 14:52

Of course he's doing what he's always done - distract, get obsessed with something for a bit, get bored of it or find it too difficult, drop it and leave a big pile of wreckage for others to deal with. Kind of like the East Wing of the White House. The only difference being that he has a plan for that.

Overtheatlantic · 10/03/2026 14:53

What's stopping him from ending it if it's all in his hands?

Abhannmor · 10/03/2026 15:03

Limited target ground troop assaults. Twenty years of mayhem and brutal torture in Iraq and Afghanistan produced ISIS. Ground invasions have a momentum of their own alas. Getting troops out might be harder than invading.

Hit the nail on the head. The white house's conduct on social media has also been deplorable in painting war like a game. For once I am glad that Starmer had some backbone to stand up to Trump.
