Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

Well many people including myself think he’s only started this war to take away the heat from his thousands of mentions in the Epstein files.
Can you let us know an example in recent history, of when the West has started a war against any regime that has “ended” in a positive way?

mids2019 · 10/03/2026 07:45

I think the economic turmoil should have been planned in and the nature of warfare I is that you fight to win. The second world war want stopped because people were worried about financial implications.....If you believe there is a threat and enemy needs defeating you do it.You don't stop half way.

We will be back here in 5 years when Iran restarts it's nuclear weapon ambitions.

He doesn't believe there's a threat and never has done.

Trump is sending mixed message and the war isn’t about to end imminently in my opinion. Yesterday, the US landed three B52 bombers at RAF Fairford.

They are the heaviest bombers in the US air force. Should be very concerning to the Iranian regime.

Many think, including me that it will be finished long before for the November Midterms elections.

I think the problem here is that there was no plan

notimagain · 10/03/2026 08:07

I think Rubio yesterday started pushing the line that the aim is to remove the missile/nuke threat..the B-52s can help with that and maybe reduce USAF reliance on the B-1s and very expensive B-2s.

What you can't do is force regime change from the air. I'm sure the US administration knew that and I wonder if the fact that there hasn't been a popular uprising has not come as a great surprise to the White House.

If there had been an uprising maybe the US would have continued to press, but it sounds to me as if they're not prepared to continue or can't continue operations at the current scale for that much longer.

Yes I think too that it will be finished well before then.

I just don't think it's about to finish in the next couple of weeks. Could be wrong, obviously.

goz · 10/03/2026 08:19

I think “simply because of economics” is an incredibly naive view.
Why should people not involved or who do not support strikes pick up the financial tab for the chaos?

UYN · 10/03/2026 08:20

Trump is a conflict entrepreuner.

Arms manufacturers and the world arms traders are making a fortune out of this.

No-one cares about the civilians filling up their petrol tanks or shopping baskets.

EasternStandard · 10/03/2026 08:31

I’m not sure it’s over anyway. Maybe the hitting the military capability part is.

Puppylucky · 10/03/2026 08:34

Latest is that it appears to be a way of lifting sanctions on Russia - specifically their oil supplies. This isn't about the Iranian people or even the West - it's about bringing Putin back to the fold and helping him defeat Ukraine.

Octavia64 · 10/03/2026 08:35

Have you ever started a war?

Removing Iran's nuclear threat isn't a new goal of the US.

The US and Israel have led Western opposition to Iran's nuclear programme, claiming Iran is seeking to develop a nuclear bomb (which Iran has denied).

They attacked Iranian nuclear and military sites in June 2025.

According to the Washington Institute:

One week into the war with Iran, the United States seems to have settled on four primary objectives: (1) destroying Iran’s navy; (2) destroying Iran’s missile capabilities; (3) preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons; and (4) preventing Iran from supporting proxy groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon or the Houthis in Yemen. Administration officials—notably President Trump in his initial remarks regarding the war—have hinted that regime change is also among their goals, but have consistently excluded this message in recent days.

Fully aware...nothing new here, other than the scale of recent ops.

BelleEpoque27 · 10/03/2026 09:04

There was no plan. It's all to distract from the Epstein files, and for 'ratings' - which is all Trump cares about. Give the people a good war to watch and they won't worry about a little fraud and sexual assault.

Looking at the four primary goals above, the US and Israel could be said to have achieved 2 of them already (destroying Iran's navy, preventing Iran from supporting their proxy groups).

Destroying Iran’s missile capabilities has been partially achieved.

Preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons is the main one that still remains to be achieved. The arrival of the B52's could be relevant to this goal.

Bombing people does not bring peace. The Israelis and the US know this. So no, more bombing isn’t the way to go.

As far as Trump goes, he hasn’t changed. He’s just groping and raping and throwing his weight around on a world stage now. He showed us all who he was. We all see him for what he is, just as we see the Israelis for who they are. You are what you do.

In that case, what are the Palestinians who celebrated 7/10/23?

TomeTome · 10/03/2026 10:43

Sorry @Twiglets1 I don’t understand your question.

CharlotteRumpling · 10/03/2026 10:45

Restaurants all across India have closed today because of the lack of cooking gas. I know that seems like a remote consequence, but economies across the world will collapse because of one man's ego.

Men who rape and murder are rapists and murderers. It doesn’t matter if they are Hamas, IDF or Americans. Is that what you are asking?
