They’re demanding that the government agrees a deal to release the hostages and stop pushing the military effort forward.

Ah so when Israel takes hostages they’re detainees who deserve it. When Hamas take hostages they need to be freed immediately. Interesting that you have such a double standard

Interesting that you don't know the difference between detainees and hostages.

Not without the release of the hostages, will he end the war.

You know he gives zero fucks about the hostages, and the families know that now too.

I’m sure that they’re all Hamas. Just like everyone else that disagrees with him.

You mean the detainees?

I prefer the term hostages as they are held without charge and rounded up indiscriminately.

I think some people feel that of you dont care more about the life of an Israeli than the life of a Palestinian then you dont care about the hostages. I have not encountered anyone expressing that they dont care about the hostages just that they care proportionately about the hostages and Palestinian civilians. And that sometimes means highlighting the broader suffering but it doesn't mean lack of empathy with the situation of the hostages. Conversely, i have only encountered a justification of or denial for suffering of Palestinians from supporters of Israel.

Roystonv · 18/08/2025 14:46

They seem to only want the war to stop because of the hostages, understandable, but are they against the war itself? I too remain with questions about the Hamas attack, it was too easy for them. Israel are renowned for their high quality of intelligence gathering and the protection of their borders but no one was there to fight back at a crucial time. I remember reading troops had been withdrawn from that area and deployed elsewhere.

Not quite - just criminals.

If that were the case, Gaza would have been totally eradicated 20 months ago.

Meanwhile, the horrors continue in the West Bank as well

when will it end?

So you admit that the person in charge of the Israeli regime is a genocidal maniac who would be enabled by the Israeli government to eradicate Gaza containing 2 million Palestinians if not for the presence of a 250 Israeli hostages?

WOW! I'm mindblown by some of the comments on here from supporters of Israel.

Do you have any reputable sources or even ones that people in the UK would have heard of?

Never heard of this source and details don't even come up on Google. Is it an Iran-based source by any chance?

Not the Al Jazeera one though, I don't read them anymore as too biased.

Well ...

Hamas accepts mediators' proposed Gaza deal
Hamas accepted on Monday a response to a new cease-fire proposal presented by Egypt and Qatar, who are mediating in the negotiations for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, Al Jazeera reported, citing an official from the group.

The source added that Hamas submitted its response without any amendments.

The announcement comes as key leaders from Egypt and Qatar, who are mediating in the negotiations for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, met on Monday in El-Alamein, Egypt, with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed al-Thani, the head of Egyptian intelligence, and representatives of Palestinian factions, in an attempt to reach a cease-fire agreement.

Palestinian sources told Haaretz that the talks are being held in a tense atmosphere, with heavy pressure applied on Hamas to agree to a partial deal, the first stage of which would last 60 days. Via Haaretz

Will be interesting to see what the Israeli government does now. Domestic pressure is clear and growing - on the other hand, several coalition members have unequivocally stated they do not want a hostage deal.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 18/08/2025 16:02

Dangermoo · 18/08/2025 14:37

Challenged about what? A ceasefire was broken - deliberately on 7th October. "Kill as many people and take as many hostages as possible".

There was no active ceasefire in place on October 7, 2023. Gaza had been under blockade and repeated Israeli assaults for years prior. The claim that a ceasefire was broken that day is therefore inaccurate.

Israeli intelligence had multiple warnings about the attack beforehand, yet no preventive measures were taken. Civilians on both sides suffered as a result.

Half the internet if you dig through the propaganda. I can't actually believe that anyone thinks any different tbh. Idf soldiers are coming out with witness accounts.

OP, others have provided information for you to consider. I am basing my comment on information I heard being given at the time in the UK by reputable sources.
